Live reporters... AT the route?

So... I've been reading a bit of the ToC live reports and it seemed to me as if the live-reporters where actually at the route! (Especially the incident with the girl pulling out in front of them...)
So... is that how it always happens or is it just a one-off?

It changes from race to race. For Cali we've Laura and Kirsten riding in the convoy, sending us messages and calling through information to help us with live. We've then got the rest of our team working in the background to make sure that info, stories and pictures go up as quickly as possible.

Not all races are like that and we try and adapt to the circumstances as best we can. For example, at some races race radio isn't great, there can be little tv info etc, etc.
