Cool
Just saw a ZDF (german TV) program were some small tailor in London phvcked the IOC and their a§§hole sponsors. He didn´t use their corrupted copyrights, but the word "oimplycs" with cornered "rings". It´s a sucsses for him. I grant him that. It´s an even better way than mine (to boycott all companies who advertise w/the olympics).

As much as it was a great performance by Rudisha, I hated the race.
800m used to be the best discipline of the whole Olympics. It had everything tactics, speed and the sprint for the line. I remember Borzakovskiy's win in Athens, probably the best T&F race ever.
But now I don't see the meaning of this race. It is quite same as 400m. You saw everyone recorded their PBs because of this. The days when one can come back from last place and win the gold are gone now, at least until Rudisha retires.

Well there are still the finals in all collective sports (hockey, basketball, football, water polo, handball, volleyball).

We certainly enjoyed the men's hockey semi here tonight.:D

Holland 9 - 2 GB:eek:

Anybody happen to see that 17 year old US girl boxer who took gold? That girl can box! I was seriously impressed with her!

I certainly enjoyed it. Netherlands gave GB a real hiding:)
The Germans come back win against the Aussies was amazing too. Especially after that disallowed goal.
It should be an Interesting final.

Incredible run by Rudisha. And the two medalists are teenagers from Botswana and Kenya. Augurs well for the future of the 800 M.
Bolt surely cements his place among st the legends of athletics. First man to retain the 100M 200M double!
Bad day for China. Their reigning triple world champion in the women's Fly weight Boxing was defeated by the GB girl in the Final, while their reigning double world champion in the women's 57 KG Freestyle wrestling also lost to a GB girl in the final handing GB their first ever Olympic Gold in Taekwondo.

Awesome performance by Japan's Saori Yoshida though. She won her third straight Women's 55 kg Freestyle Gold to add to her nine world titles!
Didn't watch the women's football final though and It's disappointing that Japan haven't been able to repeat their world cup success.
US is surely going to finish on top of the medals table now.
They will win two golds in Basketball, and probably are favourites for the Women's Volleyball. There Women's 4*100 team looked awesome and they should be favourites for the women's 4*400 too.

Still have BMX finals. But the course is set-up so fast, that whoever gets into best position heading into the first turn is most likely to win.

Marathon might be interesting, or not.

Curious about the closing ceremonies. The opening was more strange than good, but it did have Mike Oldfield's music which was cool. Super talented guy many on this side of the pond don't know about.

Some atmosphere once again. She was a big favourite for the gold going into the Olympics. I heard yesterday some Irish fans even had tickets booked for the final well in advance as many were so confident she would get there. It has covered the news from top to bottom over here.

Kelly Holmes was on the BBC this morning and said it was deafening inside the arena. An obvious highlight for me as well.

Good on yee for the recognition.

Didn't watch the bout but tuned in just after the finish to catch the celebrations. Insane Atmosphere. Apparently it had been quite a good fight too!
Feel happy for Ireland. Such a spirited nation deserves sporting success!

Well, well, the record of the east german monsters is shattered. Good luck Allyson that your record survives the next 5 years (i don´t mean that todays time will be beaten, but other circumstances;)).

Remember how everyone was sneering at the communist Chinese for filling empty seats at the Olympics with soldiers and students. I am sure that sort of thing would never happen in a "free" state.

It is getting really hard to figure out who the bad guys are in this world.

There's barely bad or good in the world. Mostly shades of grey, and currently I think the western world is dark grey. We are far away from values taught by our grandfathers, far away from a healthy society. Just read Adam Smith, Theory of moral sentiments and of course Wealth of nations. The man was brilliant, on the level of Einstein at least. He predicted things like this (well not exactly, but current state of society). No-one listened, makes me sad.

End of rant, enjoy your night nonetheless.

Watching the handball match right now. Along with ice hockey it's one of the few "score a goal" sports that doesn't bore me to death. :D

love you allyson!
and carmelita was a godness tonight too

lysenko also in good form, what a champion she is!

Just goes to show what you can achieve in the sprints if you run through the tape rather than 'Hollywooding' the last 10 meters. The USA 4x100m really delivered. They got a much bigger 'woop' and spontaneous applause in our house than Bolt did last night. Serious respect to them.

I never understood that. Even in the 100m, it looks like they slow down before they cross the finish line. I would have imagined that, in order to get the best time, you'd run at max speed through the finish, as if you were running 110m.

Is it just an illusion or do they actually slow down? Also, what part of the athlete's body needs to cross the line for the timer to stop? Front foot, head, chest back foot?

It's quite simple. Bolt already owns the records so he's only going for he medal. Once he sees he's got it in the bag he can slow down and start enjoying. The US 4x100m on the other hand didn't have the records so they went all out to the very end.
