Best: Contador
Most consistent/performed throughout the season: Valverde
Biggest single performance/race: Nibali
Honourable mentions to: Gerrans & Kristoff.

Agree with all these.

I'm not especially a fan of his, but Alberto gets my nod.

Just pips Valverde due to the quality of his wins.

How Terpstra and is not on this poll is beyond me. He was the rider of the spring. He performed extremely well in every race he targeted. Top 6 in every cobbled race he participated in this spring:

Omploop 5th
Dwars 1st
E3 2nd
RVV 6th
De Panne 4th
Roubaix 1st

Plus won Qatar.

I'd also have Canc in there. He podiumed 3 monuments for chrissakes! Not that I'd have him 1st but he should be in the poll.

Yep, Terpstra and Cancellara should be in the poll.
I would drop Degenkolb and Tony Martin instead.

Ha, a good one.

I guess I'm putting a lot of weight on the best GT of the year, thus whoever and how he wins it, will automatically be the best cyclist of the year. It's just this year it happened to have been Nibali. As fate would have it ;)

a.k.a. an independent observer :D

I guess Oscar Pereiro was the cyclist of the year in 2006 then :)

Easily Nibali. He won the big race.

Love to see Kristoff or Kwia recognized, but I'm guessing they stick with the best GC performance.

It's Paris-Roubaix. PARIS-ROUBAIX!

For me, it is:

1. Contador
2. Valverde
3. Kristoff

Nibali not in the top 3 because he rode **** anything outside the Tour.

The question was not who won the "biggest race" of the year. The question was who is the male cyclist of the YEAR. Nibali performed WAY below other riders like AC and Valverde throughout the year as a whole.

I don't get it how you left out Kristoff and possibly Dan Martin? Both of them won a classic.

Nope. But if the award is to be given to a GC rider and many riders build their season around the TDF, I give it to that winner. Contador had a great season and was fantastic at La Vuela. While Tinkov would never trade Contador for Nibali, I bet he'd trade winning La Vuelta and some week long stage races for le Tour every year.

You obviously don't like it, and I wish there was a dominant classics rider this year to give it to. But in the end I say it's Nibali. Contador and maybe Valverde are just as deserving, but I don't think they win.

I chose Kristoff above Gerrans because the last one annoys me too much as a rider;)

But indeed hard pick, all three guys had a terrific season.

I went for Kwiat. Based on pure results, Contador and Valverde were probably the best two (as the rankings suggest), but their performances were only a bit better than par given their ability. Same with Nibali and Quintana - a GT and nothing else is only slightly above par for them.

Kwiat won (imo) the second biggest race of the year and won it in real style, as well as taking the most watchable classic and lighting up several other races. Much more than you would have expected of him at the start of the year.
