Agreed. And if he actually had a team, he would have won Dauphiné as well.

Add a few what ifs, ignore a few other what ifs and then it's no contest.
Anyhow, it's only a little poll, right?
Mellow Velo said:Best set of classics results by some margin.
Best overall results in the GTs.
Not forgetting how good he was on the dirt and cobbles in March.
Valverde head and shoulders above everybody else.
Well, outside of here, that is.
MellowJohnny said:Where is Marcel Kittel on that list, the Manx Missile slayer.

Angliru said:You're obviously not familiar with Echo and his/her absolute disregard for any event that lasts longer than one day.
You were doing so well until you said you voted for Kristoff.greenedge said:Contador rode superbly all year and the only reason I didn't vote for him was because of his TDF crash but that's not his fault.
Nibali won the TDF in great style and even with Contador and Froome there I think would have won. However unlike last year he was really bad in every other race.
If Valverde had podiumed the TDF i would have voted for him but he didn't.
Kwia and Gerrans rode well, but just needed to go well GT wise or win the WC to get the vote.
Therefore i voted Kristoff, whose MSR and TDF wins were very solid and he performed all year round.

Netserk said:Simon Gerrans (others as well) has better classics results this year than Valverde.
You forgot two WT one-day races.Mellow Velo said:I know.
Its about who is the rider here most liked.
Of course it should be partially about podium finishes in the classic races.
Did he though?
Race: Gerrans Valverde
MSR:- DNS DNS
AGR:- 3rd 4th
FW:- DNS 1st
LBL:- 1st 2nd
CSS:- DNF 1st
VC:- 3rd DNS
WCRR:- 2nd 3rd
ToL:- DNS 2nd
Depends how much emphasis you put on one place in LBL over wins in FW and San Seb.
Both records are impressive and very consistent, but for Gerrans in San Seb.
The no show for Lombardy hands it to Valverde, imo.

Netserk said:You forgot two WT one-day races.
Liège and the two Canadian one-day races plus three podiums > Flèche Wallonne and San Sebastian plus three podiums
Not to mention that the three times they were in a final together, Simon Gerrans beat Valverde all three times.
Netserk said:Simon Gerrans (others as well) has better classics results this year than Valverde.
Contador, Nibali & Quintana have for obvious reasons better overall results in GTs this year.
He didn't do **** on cobbles (sitting 3rd on a hill ~60km out IIRC and not being anywhere near the front in the final = not doing ****) and the dirt you talk about is mostly insignificant (compared to the hills in that classic).
nobilis said:You got to be really biased to say that. Valverde had a better classics season or at least comparable to that of Gerrans, without even taking into account his wins in week-long stage races and his performances in the Tour and Vuelta (4th and 3rd)
Cance > TheRest said:And the only reason some might even consider Gerrans' classics season as good as Valverde's is because Gerrans won 2 WT classics (or should I just call them one-day-races) in Canada. If Valverde had participated there, he'd have podium'ed atleast, and nobody would even compare the two.
