Just want to put this link in here for those that are not aware of the historical problems in Australian cycling organisations and their inability/refusal to deal with the doping issue.

Senator Faulkner really pushed for answers regarding the two cyclists "protected for the Olympics" the problems with the French investigation -lots of sources.

Awesomesauce. Thank you very much.

I have not looked for the outcome of the investigation, but found this in my research over the last few weeks: http://fulltext.ausport.gov.au/fulltext/1999/ascmedia/19990705.html

5 July 1999

Australian Sports Commission Executive Director, Jim Ferguson, announced that he has received advice today from the Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA) that two AIS cycling scholarship holders had returned positive drug tests and consequently been placed on ASDA’s Register of Notifiable Events.

"The Australian Sports Commission will be following the matter up with the Australian Cycling Federation," Mr Ferguson said.

"It will be necessary for a hearing to be conducted to determine whether an anti-doping policy has been breached. The ASC will join with the Australian Cycling Federation for this purpose."

The cyclists will have the matter considered under the anti-doping policies of the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Cycling Federation and possibly the Australian Olympic Committee.

Under the provisions of its anti-doping policy, the Commission is unable to release the names of the athletes involved until after the hearing has determined whether a breach of the policy has taken place.

It is usual that matters of this nature are not resolved in less than a month.

I am disgusted with Matt White, the coward. Sitting there pretending to be clean, running a team, talking to the press, just disgraceful cowardly behavior.

This dirty rotten drug cheat has brought great shame upon Australian Cycling. I hope he is ostracised from the sport. I wouldnt spit on him if he was on fire, the dirty rotten stinking drug cheat.

Ouch. It is not like he's Pharmstrong or BroHog. Or Hein. Or Paddy

Here's one of the big problems I see surfacing. If we let ourselves "hate" some of the pawns while not aiming that emotion where it needs to be aimed - the team leaders, owners, managers, officials, UCI, etc that helped or allowed it to happen.

I'm not saying White is not deserving of some negative or should not lose his job. He does not strike me as the smartest. But nor is he deserving of all the scorn.

FWIW, I like some of the soundbites coming from D*ck Pound about the UCI ...

Agreed.

The only thing I hate in all this is a thing: doping.

Just wondering did anyone else pick up.
"Given my admissions above, I have been in contact with my employees and will be voluntarily standing down from my positions with the National Men's High Performance Program with Cycling Australia and as a Sports Director with GreenEdge Cycling while inquiries into my case are conducted and the Board of Cycling Australia and GreenEdge make a determination regarding my future with each organisation."

I have bolded the important part of what white says. But sounds like he is just stepping down while the enquiries are taking place. I see him sitting out for a bit then they say oh he doped then now he is all about bringing the sport forward in a clean manner so we have reinstated him as director etc.

Nup, he is finished. Confessed too late. GE is now in trouble for stupidly supporting him after the article and before the confession. I think all in cycling have misjudged public anger. Because they don't like being duped, both by Armstrong and the authorities. ATM no Aussie cyclist doping will escape public backlash.

Also SBS and Tan did a hatchet job on him on CyclingCentral today.

I am sure it does....I do not know why the media are not questioning how Rogers only got a "training program"??? Apparently you only get dope with that training program if you are not Australian.... And you are clean cause you ride with Sky....Give me a break....

At least Rogers has spoken out about his relationship with Ferrari in the past week (whether or not his explanation is to be believed is debatable)

Pretty shocking though that former TDF winner Cadel (also a client of Dr Ferrari) hasn't said a word.

Can he be trusted?

Yep, they will meet and decide to have an "amnesty" for anyone who comes clean. Because White will fall into amnesty period he will be back in a month announced at the right time (probably around an election announcement) to keep it away from the public backlash.

The public wont have any sway in the matter. He is doing too good at his job and is too well liked at the top end to be stood down permanently.

Just saw an interview on Abc24 Australia with Phil Bates (UCI rep in AUST).

He disagreed on air with Cycling Australia head Muellers comment that Matt White has to go for good. It was clear that the reporter was incredulous - he pushed it but Bates just dug his heels in -

these guys are part of the problem - unbelievable. Turtur, Bates they clearly have not been answerable to anyone for years - they are out of touch with reality.

It's about time that Australians realised what our winning at all costs mentality actually means.

We need to hear from Stuart O'Grady, Simon Gerrans, Allan Davis and Baden Cooke - the high-achieving lead riders on the Orica-GreenEDGE roster and veterans of the pro-peloton. Australians should also demand straight talking from their countrymen on rival teams - Michael Rogers, Richie Porte and, perhaps most importantly of all, Evans.
For now we wait. If you care you'll notice you're braced.
