Like Sepp last year, even if Vingegaard starts the Tour, Matteo will stay up in GC to begin with? The guy is a new monster. PN victory and now so close at the Dauphine! All achieved at 190 cm of height.
This stock is up and his instincts are solid. He went to the wheel 3 times yesterday and did one jump too many just losing to Roglic at the line and today he got the gap and rode at a way way high pace, he knew he had something that Gee didn't, Rodriguez was a great guy to work with, Jorgenson finds himself in good position for a win or good result. Just has a sense not to waste energy. And his tactic was only a near miss, 8 seconds and Roglic would have had a terrible nightmare come true.. Again!!It’s time to start reckoning with this Jorgensen thing. His stock is way up at the moment. What happens next cannot be determined

If Kuss starts a bit slow, Jorgenson may have to pull Vingegaard on Galibier if the latter will be in trouble there. If he's needed there, he could make a real difference. I think roles will be different in the last week, by then Kuss will have had time enough to be the last man.
But more unknowns this year than usual!
I love the avatar @topcat. So true of Rog!Jorgensen will most likely be team leader at the tour for Visma. He's looking good for 2nd place. I changed my avatar to a picture of Rog training for the tour.
Logical plan but it could end up reversing in the last half. Kuss dropped out of the Dauphine a day before Matteo came 8 seconds away from winning. Sepp was training as was Matteo, Remco and a few others. Matteo's ready for the Tour after a rest and his team better make it an easier first half for him; he deserves all of that for saving their season. The reality is he will need to stay in the mix in the mountains to be effective for any role. Kuss being the first domestique is the obvious way to go unless, for some twist of opportunity he's allowed to gain alot of time. That can happen if he's allowed to go away in a non-threatening moment and Matteo is with the major players. JV could hope that will happen. If Kuss starts a bit slow, Jorgenson may have to pull Vingegaard on Galibier if the latter will be in trouble there. With his shoulders and upright climbing style he looks more like the new KruijswijkJorgenson is definitely an asset to cycling. Both for one-day races and for stage races. What we don't know is how he will perform during a three weeks race. I fear he could fade or even collapse during the third week. But if not, is he maybe the new Indurain.
I definitely see the bait scenario, was Kuss and now it's Matteo. He has all the qualities that demand respect and if he rolls away most teams will have him marked as a move to cover. And Visma is doing a great job with the surprise party w Jonas Vingegaard, nobody knows what is in the box until the TDF and these last opportunities like Tour d Swiss are over without Visma showing their hand. Other teams putting it out there.. Don't know for sure but would say that a semi wrecked Remco was a confidence boost for other teams, and Roglic looking very human. Don't see any riders generating the wattage of Pogacar currently.. No telling if Ayuso out means road rash or something more serious but UAE looking pretty good. Don't think Jogenson will mind being towed around by themI read this as insects at first glance, for some reason.
It will be interesting to see if Visma can use either him or Vingegaard as bait to try and break Pogačar during the Tour. The UAE team will most likely be stronger than it was in 2022 though, so it could just as well be Visma that end up in trouble this time around.
Yates looked today too—although we’ll get more info from upcoming climbs at Suisse—and ready to be Pog’s super-dom. And I think this year if Kuss or Jorgenson try to get in a break (like at Vuelta) UAE will be sure to have Yates or Ayuso go with them.I definitely see the bait scenario, was Kuss and now it's Matteo. Doesn't seem to have the mindset of a champion, unfortunately. Or at least not yet.
Increasingly, tho, he is riding like a team leader, so it's probably just how he expresses himself.Doesn't seem to have the mindset of a champion, unfortunately. Or at least not yet.
His GT "struggles" came from not having much of a team in Movistar. He free-lanced almost all of his efforts and results. Coming to JV was a very smart thing to do...as long as management doesn't get tangled up in some ridiculous strategic/PR blunder with Jonas and Wout. Like a '23 Vuelta where none of their riders podium.Top 3 improved riders from last year surely? Great rider he has becomed lets see if jumbo have fixed his GT struggles.
Being conservatively realistic in the press shows no weakness; just strategic sense. What mindset did he possess when he schooled folks at PN and was in the fight to the end; second by 8 seconds at Dauphine?Doesn't seem to have the mindset of a champion, unfortunately. Or at least not yet.
Wholeheartedly agree. Dont think he has earned that over Jonas as of now but I agree on the part going to jumbo was a right move/better manegement why I also believe he will not struggle as much in GT going forward. His GT "struggles" came from not having much of a team in Movistar. He's earned some protection and it would be a shame to waste a year.
On the final day of the Dauphine, he threw away a good chance for stage win to go for the GC. He's hungry enough.Doesn't seem to have the mindset of a champion, unfortunately. Or at least not yet.
