Van Heeswijk rode for Motorola as well I think so he has a lot of association with Lance. Going to be interesting how he explains his own doping with all the other proven/admitted Postal dopers whilst team leader being 100% clean.

Maybe off-topic but one former Postal guy I would like to hear from is Jamie Burrow and not just in relation to US Postal. The guy was a huge talent beating some of Pantani's climbing records whilst amateur but never made it as a pro and lasted only one season at Postal. Last I heard of him he was riding Grand fondos in Italy. Was his career derailed because of others doping though admittedly doping was supposed to be rife on the Italian amateur scene at the time also.

I dont think JB was ever 'A' team - He was let go after the team rode for him in the Tour of Austria (I think) - he fell and broke his wrist and apprently that was a failure, he got the call a couple of days later - Nice people to work for !

I don't know anything about this guy but that behaviour with grabbing the disk sounds troubling. I hope he has support.

Denying later on TV is even more troubling. Something must have happened in the mean time, and it wasn't peace of mind. Guy must not be the smartest, and under some sort of pressure greater than his own dignity.

Okay, he did spend 4 years with Postal/Discovery (and 2 years with Motorola), but he was also with Rabobank, Mapei and Domo Farm Frites. Perhaps it's a bit misleading put "ex-Postal" in the title of this thread?

Just saying.

Admittedly, he did have his best years while at Postal/Disco. Was he ever on a TdF team with Armstrong?

The story is clearly about his time at Disco, his doping as well as Lance's and Landis. The interview's focus was the Federal investigation. The reason Max grabbed the tape was because he was scared of the smear campaign that is unleashed by Lance on those who tell the truth.

I am not a journalist, but minidiscs do seem practical.
- Affordable for one-time storage. CDR are nice, but who has a CD writer memo recorder? Cassettes still exist in various sizes, but pose a lower quality, and potentially more easily affected by heat/flood. What do you pay for your USB sticks/SD cards, and how easily do you get 2 hours of audio on it from any recording device?
- Minidisc cover and disc itself have space for pen marks.
- Fits in a paper file nicely.

Besides, we're talking about a Limburger ex-cyclist living in Belgian, thinking to make a story go away by stealing a disc from under the eye of a journalist. Why question the journalist's attitude to the modern times? (Tongue in cheek, I'm from the West.)

As RR has said the interview was conducted because of the grand jury proceedings in the US and was mainly concerned about his view on the case Armstrong, the conduct and the behaviour on the USPS/Discovery teams and the sudden departure of Van Heeswijk out of the pro peloton. The interview did discuss the doping within the team of USPS/Discovery and the rest of the peloton.

Nah, it's just the year he discovered the value of high cadence, hard work and a greater desire to beat everybody else.

Turning it up a notch. Classy.
The stakes must really be high even for retirees. Worth a couple hundred of good night's sleep a year. Why DO these once-were's even do interviews anno domini 2011?

Perhaps their flirtation with His Lanceness gave them mini-god complexes. They need attention.
Maybe Lance should try to smash all of the TV's in the world so no one could say he dopes...he has that kind of power and speed.

There were a number of riders who suffered because of the doping culture and were unable to fulfill their potential. I assume he was one of them. Thank goodness talented riders are able to ride and show their natural talents now.

I don't get the magazine. However the article will probably be up on regular nu.nl in a week or so, I presume at least

If nu.nl is to be believed, and there is no reason to doubt their story, RR is at the very least half right, the story was mainly about his time at Disco, his doping and the Federal investigation and the doping of those involved in this investigation

The online comments from the editor said exactly that, reason to interview were the FDA investigations, and Max's time riding for Lance's team. That makes the subject seem dated today, because it is. They did the interview mid-June, then Max got all weird, the Tour happened (nu.nl do have things to do in July), and now they place the story, which has become timeless and in itself interesting, due to Max's admissions and later denials thereof.
I don't read anything in print anymore. Seems dated by design.

Wasn't 2004 the year US Postal was crushing everybody so much at the Tour they flushed their high cadence down the toilet to make it a little more believable?

Still, now knowing that most teams were on all the same things the blue train is being confirmed to have been on...why were they crushing the others so much? We're not declaring the losers to be cleanish?
I can't make sense of the inconsistencies in performances. Floyd left, and stayed quick. So did Heras. Hamilton. We know their stories.
Hincapi however, seems to have lost commitment, focus, cadence, or whatever.
What made blue so much stronger?

NuSport refers to a sudden exit of the sport by Van Heeswijk. Do any of you have an opinion on that?

Floyd talks about it in the Kimmage interview. The story of flushing blood bags down the toilet had been enamoured over time. Floyd confirmed that they had agreed to taper back their doping because they were crushing everyone and it was starting to look unbelievable.
