What does he mean by "everyone"? Does that include his teammates? Because if it doesn't, they seemed to be doing pretty fine while clean.Barrus said:That he was one of the cleanest riders in that era because everyone was doping and that he had it so difficult because he was not doping and now he is portrayed as a doper

fatandfast said:They should go bother Landis he will talk to anyone, plus he knows everything about what Lance does ,even today, maybe up to the minute. Just keep thinking about him kicking *** on the race circuit. Months go by, he pulls in for a routine pit stop and is handed a subpoena. Big grin on his face he will assume it's about Lance, it will be from the UCI. he has to miss his first race. I hope all the seeds he has planted turn into the weeds he deserves

Damiano Machiavelli said:For some muppets any thread is a good opportunity to excuse Lance's doping. There could be a thread about the mating habits of the Nigerian dung beetle, and they would post excuses for Lance in it.

you also saw this dozens of times with Contador. When having a beer or a plate of food with team members or friends he probably used English a little bit. These riders should not do interviews in anything other than their mother tongue. The guy was probably leading a quite life.

sniper said:The article contains little news in terms of doping, just that Max admits to having used EPO 3 times. Also, he talks openly about how testosteron can be applied without being caught.
Also, he indirectly accuses Hincapie and Michael Barry, by saying that, if he would have doped more, he could still have been active, using Hincapie and Barry as cases in point.
The rest of the article is an interpretation of the situation and of Max's behavior during the interview (first admitting, then regretting the admission immediately after, stealing the disc, etc.) by the journalist himself. About omerta, how it is understandable that Max did what he did, etc...
IMO, the interview leaves little room for doubt about the veracity of the journalist's claims regarding what Max did and did not say.
Also, there is an editor's note, saying that after the interview they've attempted to contact Max a dozen of times through telephone, SMS and Email, and have given him chances to give his version of the story, etc, but that he hasn't replied to any of those attempts.
Also, they've sent him the article before publication, to give him the opportunity to respond prior to publication. Max chose not to comment.
Ah, and there is a bit about how Max praises Lance for having done so much in the fight against cancer, and about how that is one reason why people should get off LAnce's back and stop discussing him in relation to doping. (The journalist then remarks that it's not really about the dope, but more about the tax-issues and Lance being a part owner of the US Postal team, etc.)
Max also expresses his negative sentiments towards Floyd, about how Floyd should be grateful to Lance (something like "Floyd was poor when he came into cycling, then suddenly he was able to buy everything. He owed it all to Lance.")
I find the part about how his wife comes in the room shortly after the interview, saying something like "Didn't I warn you not to talk about Lance?" to be quite revealing. The journalists logically speculates about how this shows the fear and pressure guys like Max (and their families) must have been living under during their carreers, and now, after their carreers, due to Novitzky's investigation, etc..
About how these guys know that coming clean diminishes their chances to stay in cycling.
The journalist draws a logical relation between doping cyclists, and the cyclists' families. Considering that families depend on the cyclist's income, a cyclist with mouths to feed is rather unlikely to say no to dope, if everybody else dopes.
Dope = mealticket.

it starts with Max's wife telling him directly after the interview: "Max, I've warned you not to talk about Lance!"
Polish said:Yes, Mrs Van Heeswijk is fearful Lance will send over the Cowboy Goombas to drill holes in the dike protecting the Van Heeswijk household.
Lance is a bad bad man
Or maybe Mrs Van Heeswijk, like her husband, respect Lance and do not want to contribute to the media smear campaign?
Mrs Van Heeswijk a Bizzaro World Betsy?

sniper said:Max told in the interview how great a man Lance is and he additionally dissed Floyd.
The interview is very positive towards Lance.
The sad thing is: Lance probably doesn't remember who Max is.
But you should have seen Max cry like a baby on national television.
