And a rider whose only victory is a GT with a foreign start in his country of birth.Furthermore there are two additional riders who have won a GT (with foreign start) starting in a country where they speak the same language as said GT winner's mother tongue. Both are slightly contentious though, and I'm a little bit unsure about the more ancient of the two (which language was actually his native one).

To be fair to Merckx he had all of one race day in the UK, the 1970 World championships where his compatriot Monseré won, who would go on to die the next spring. Oh, and he had one race day on the Isle of Man where he lost to Anquetil in the sprint at age 20.Chris Froome & Eddy Merckx have around 320 wins between them including 18 grand tours, 3 world championships, & 19 monuments. Neither of them has won a race in the united kingdom.

Hindley led the race after stage 20 and stage 21.What do you mean, he only led the race on the final stage.

The rider who leads the race after the final stage, wins the race.A rider doesn't lead a race after the final stage, a rider has won the race after the final stage.
