Thought it was a circus hoop.Gotta love the yellow circle. Just in case you didn't catch it.

I think after today, some will opt out of this monument altogether.
It's just pointless tbh for quite a few of the top riders. I can't see why Pog would attempt this when all that happens is the riders who get dragged up Poggio behind can then counter the group & in this case it was almost Anthony Turgis who wins.
I noticed—it was great racing and they all knew it.Look how all the favorites looked happy just now!
You thought or he thought?Thought it was a circus hoop.
That's exactly what I instantly thought, too, as soon as Pog failed all his first three attacks. For the strongests, they know it's too little a factor in this race.
2 of the last 5 years we've seen 1 or 2 riders get away on the Poggio. It can and does work it's just not automatic like a harder climb would be. Part of what makes the finale so unpredictable. That's exactly what I instantly thought, too, as soon as Pog failed all his first three attacks. So, because Pogacar didn't win today, it automatically means he can never win? Isn't it kind of the point with MSR that you have to have luck on your side?
It's his first attempt and now he knows something about the dynamics; that they are unpredictable. Vincenzo can tell him something about how that works, couldn't he?So, because Pogacar didn't win today, it automatically means he can never win? Mohoric has survived the Poggio a number of times in his career. He had 3 top11 before today. For me he was one of the outsiders for today, especially after Colbrelli pulled out.To be honest i often thought of Mohorič. In the past couple of days. After all that is why he has a nationals jersey. Due to beating Pogačar on a similar terrain. But i admit i didn't believe he can survive the Poggio.
Think its always worth a spin at the wheel of fortuneSo, because Pogacar didn't win today, it automatically means he can never win? Isn't it kind of the point with MSR that you have to have luck on your side?
MSR is a 20 rider lottery. You can’t guarantee victory by being the strongest and riding perfectly. That’s just how it is. In recent years, the out and out bunch sprinters have been nearly eliminated from contention, but you will always have to be lucky with the race situation to win.
His 2nd attempt. Ok the first time he wasn't the undisputed leader of the team. It's his first attempt and now he knows something about the dynamics; that they are unpredictable. Vincenzo can tell him something about how that works, couldn't he?
He had to get back from being out of position numerous times, yet he still did what he could to help when he used what he had left to make a dig in the second half of Poggio. If this edition had been calmer with a full gas Poggio, Rogla would have been able to launch Van Aert's attack there. I don't think it'd make sense to expect more than that. You could see that Wout sensed the danger in the descent, but he got sandwiched between MVDP and Pogacar when he tried to follow. Then again, I think WVA wouldn't have won a sprint today. Regardless of that, Roglic was underwhelming - he wasn't there when Wout needed him, while vice versa Wout is almost always there for Roglic.
Like I said. Roglič is so out of position he had to do two sprints only to put himself around the fifth position, just seconds before Pogačar's first attack. Still don't know if it could have made any difference for Van Aert. Probably not.Positions at the entry of Poggio, I will add names of all riders later:

You seriously didn't expect Roglic to climb the Poggio faster than Nizzolo? He had to get back from being out of position numerous times, yet he still did what he could to help when he used what he had left to make a dig in the second half of Poggio.
