I guess he really might be hiding under @RedheadDane couch after watching thisConsidering vdP's long-standing mental advantage over him, today could not have been an easy watch for Wout. He needs to show up with career best form to even be in contention in a few weeks.
He got away on the descentDid Trentin try to bridge a one minute gap to Pogacar, MvdP and Ganna on the flat?
against MVDP he will never win waiting for the Poggio. Indeed, the epilogue will always be like today: if it goes well, he loses in the sprint, if it goes badly (greater portability) he will lose by dropping in the last km of the Poggio. On such gentle slopes no one on Earth will be able to resist MVDP attacks. 🤣Next year will be worse if they do it again. I believe there will be more riders prepared there. IMHO.
He needs to try something different. The race before the Cipressa was too easy. I usually don't watch this race before the Cipressa but there are 3 little climbs where his team can ride like demonds. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the last Capo gradient of 6.5% and 2 Km and the group riding like a Sunday ride. You cannot arrive to the Cipressa with 100 riders. just can't. Not for him. It can work for the rest of the contenders but not for a rider like Pogacar. He needs a hard race to win. Even if he loses badly he needs to try something different here. He was kind of lucky there was a crash that parted the group.I think he made this race pretty hard but MVDP was just better on the day.
They were all expecting a Cipressa attack...Next year will be worse if they do it again. I believe there will be more riders prepared there. IMHO.
Then you go hard there, everyone recovers, and your domestiques are tired. He needs to try something different. The race before the Cipressa was too easy. If he does the same thing he needs luck to win. A crash, a flat, contenders in bad condition, etc. Who cares if he comes 10th or 20th. Just try something different. That's all I am asking.
I don't think so to be honest. Today, Pogi showed he will destroy MVP. He was on the limit.
Correct. But is different. There will be different outcome. You don't know what will happen. It is probabilities...Then you go hard there, everyone recovers, and your domestiques are tired.
There were a crash that played in their favor. Some riders, I think, were expecting a regroup after Cipressa like in previous editions. next year they will be more alert. I think. They were all expecting a Cipressa attack...
I don't see many beating MVDP in The Ronde or P-R. Maybe Wout
I agree with this. I was kind of surprise when Tim Wellens pulled out and there was no one there from UAE until Narvaez showed up.The only really bad thing about today's race is we're gonna keep hearing about which 7 riders should be in the Pogi squad for at least another year. Gilbert would of course have won in 2011 if Lotto had brought Adam Blythe.
It was at the back. There were a crash that played in their favor. Some riders, I think, were expecting a regroup after Cipressa like in previous editions. next year they will be more alert. I think.
