I don't necessarily disagree. However, I don't think this race is the one to give your argument more substance. Mathieu did counter Pogi on the last ascent and opened up a bigger gap than Pogi ever had on Mathieu today. Also, the latter looked fresher in the end. De Ronde is a different beast altogether though.

Next year, no one will follow Pogacar. UAE was awful again and they still destroyed the peloton.
Yeah, I definitely expect him to be faster this year (depending on weather conditions) but the same goes for Pogacar.

If not, there may be a better chance for someone other than Mathieu to win, because a bigger group for the sprint, means more chaos.
