On a more important note, Mike Teunissen 11th +110, Velasco 22nd +30. Aranburu f*cked up the sprint and only got 15th. Shrewd moves, BIG points.

Didn't even have the big man here, he is down for Settimana next week.

I had a bit of a situation which meant I couldn't watch live at the last minute, what an edition to miss...

After today, I'm even less sure how Pogacar is supposed to win this one so long as Van der Poel is there because today proved he can't make it too hard for him. Genuinely, for the first and only time in his life, he would need a teammate in whatever elite group he pulls clear on Cipressa.

I am of the opinion that if MvdP is in top shape he cannot brute force it and he has to play the final 2km RNG like normal people.

Actually probably if you do that MvdP just drops you in the Poggio final km.

Problem is that Pogacar would be the world's most marked man in the final 2k RNG. Unless UAE grow someone out of a laboratory he's going to have to ask the sheiks to buy him a Ganna for Christmas and ride defensively on Poggio.

Next year will be worse if they do it again. I believe there will be more riders prepared there. IMHO.
A group of like 5-8 riders after Cipressa might be better for Pogacar, means there are dangers to Van der Poel other than himself. The question is whether such a group works well enough to stay clear on the way to Poggio but then again there wouldn't be many teams left to work behind.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't care what is happening behind the main event.
This race will stick with me..great ride from the podium!! They worked great together until it was evident that they could work on beating one another! For any person who loves racing, Ganna's never give up was inspirational!! Best bike race in a long time..

This was the most impressive edition of La Primavera that I've seen - and I've been following it since 1988. MvdP looked like a beast. Tactically this is the easiest race to win: follow Pogacar and beat him in the sprint. The dominance of these two in the monuments can only be compared to Merckx and De Vlaeminck. Not much is left for the others.

I feel sorry for Ganna. How can someone be so strong without winning a classic?

???
Where is he strong enough to win a classic other than MSR?

The best Milan Sanremo edition that I have ever watched, finally the race exploded on Cipressa as I and many others wished.

Mathieu Van der Poel what a rider, the way he just followed every attack from peak Pogačar was incredible and in the sprint he was untouchable. After winning 2 monuments in each of the last two seasons mybe this time he can do the triple MSR-RVV-PR.

Ganna did an amazing race as well, the way he always kept coming back after getting dropped showed a lot of resilience. I think he will win a classic in the near future maybe even monument.

Pogačar did what he had to do today, attacked on the Cipressa and kept trying but sadly for him Van der Poel is peak shape is almost unbeatable here, so the gap that he left on the sprint didn't really matter imo.

Disappointed with Pedersen, once again he was far from the best when it really mattered despite being in great shape, I don't think he will ever win a monument. Matthews keeping his consistency in this race with another top5.

Looks like the main protagonists threw everything but the kitchen sink at winning that race - congrats to MVDP, at end of the day when he is on form he has the perfect attributes for this race. He also has the best long range sprint in the sport - we've known that since 2019 Amstel.

For Pogacar, it shows the MSR parcours is simply not difficult enough for him. He needs to drop MVDP or it is simply impossible.

Also kudos to Ganna. A brave fight to get back on and Michael Matthews who predictably won the sprint for best of the rest. My pick Pedersen came nowhere.
