My point is simply that there seems to be the implication that JV will cooperate with some sort of unwritten rule whereby he will engage with one thread, while "the rest of us" discuss him in another thread—which is a flawed premise.

And yes, keeping track of what is said in one thread is always easier than keeping track of what is said in more than one thread.

I thought the implication was more that we set up one one thread for Digger and Benotti et al to shout at JV, and one for anyone else to post reasoned, polite questions to someone closely involved in pro-cycling.

JV is of course free to respond in whichever thread he chooses, to whichever questions he wants.

Given his past posting history I think he's much more likely to want to get involved in the shouting match thread, as it's pretty clear he loves arguing on the internet. . .

And sorry, I wasn't intending on having a particular pop at you, I just thought it was mildly ironic that you started by trying to defend him as not a circus act, but finish by saying splitting the threads makes it harder for you to keep track on where he might be posting - which certainly isn't a crime, but doesn't appear entirely consistent. But in any case apologies, as I didn't intend to offend.

Can we please have rules not to call someone a troll so easily and without any proper reason, only because one has a different opinion than other? The word troll is written on almost every page in the ''Why Alberto Contador will never be a champion for the ages'' thread.

the trolling that resulted in half the clinic getting banned a few weeks ago seems pretty tame in comparison with this recent sky trolling.

Joachims new account is my guess.

How about people stop feeding it, don't call people trolls and report behaviour they think is against the rules?

It seems so simple...

Tbf though reporting only works against the most basic obvious trolling. Someone who truly wants to disrupt the forums though will just play by the rules act nice and troll by repositioning their own beliefs in every single discussion in order to take a contrary position to their targets every single time and prolongue every discussion. Martinvickers lasted 2 years with this technique though it was way worse cos he would insult everyone at the same time. Joachim was an even more extreme version of that. This new poster is the next step in the evolutionary chain. Even more well behaved. But every time I visit the clinic he's taking a new weird nonsensical position that just so happens to challenge what sceptic is saying. And he uses the free speech defense but there comes a point where it's clear this isn't just a poster with a tendency to tow a different line. I mean today he's sticking to a argument that froome is no longer a good gt rider because cq rankings has him down on their annual points list:eek: a few days ago he was resorting to increasingly desperate literal interpretations of the metaphorical term " overnight" to defend a ridiculous protestation of an earlier post. He even started directly contradicting things froome himself had said in order to stand his ground in this flame war he was clearly losing.

One incident you can get but this poster is doing it all the time and coincidences don't occur that frequently. I'm not saying he should be banned because he does seem to be keeping to the rules but trolling or baiting, this clearly fits under.

Disrupt the forums?

Oh my humble apologies. Pray tell us what it was that you have to say of such earth-shattering importance but couldn't because I was clogging every single thread on the forum with trolljuice.

So you disagreed with a couple of things I said about a cyclist, and you just can't cope with it. Maybe forums aren't for you, bro.

My last words to you. Ever. Let's do the grown up thing and put each other on ignore.

It's pretty easy. If you think someone is trolling, report and ignore them. If you get into an argument with them then really you're as bad as they are...

There do seem to be a number of people who are more than happy to cry troll just because someone says something they don't agree with, but will then get into an argument and, I'm guessing, not actually report the post in the first place.

There are just too many easy marks on this forum, that's all. Best just to try to keep a sense of humour about it all.

None taken whatsoever. I think we're actually saying the same thing, but something is perhaps getting lost in translation.

We've had far worse;)

I'm not talking about myself, I've posted far less these last 3, 4 months than I used to. I'm talking about what I see from you vs sceptic, hog. And yes they aren't exactly innocent, i've called out hog in particular probably more than anyone else in the forum has. But you play the same game as him.

The way that discussion about the metaphorical term "overnight" dragged for so long was what people have complained about on this forum when they used the verb "vortexing". Just kept on and on and then started moving the goalposts as well.

The clinic has seen this trick 200 times before. During the Sky wars, during the Contador wars, during the Lance Wars before that. You think they are the first person to try some weak **** like this then protest "oh your just mad because you disagree with my opinion". Please:D That's like saying the dog ate your homework. There've been dozens before that tried it, few in the clinic are naive novices who will fall for something like that.

I don't need to put them on ignore because I'm not offended by their posts or anything. I find the posts mostly harmless. I'm just saying, since I saw this dicussion in this here mod thread, that its pretty obvious what their motivation is.

In the same way I also think that Contador thread was trolling. I don't report it because I don't care much either way. The second I saw it I laughed to myself and thought - its gonna be a long day for the Contador fans, and indeed that poster was quite succesful. May even have been airstream, very well played if it was, but whoever it was I admire the strategy and they are probably having so much fun with it.

I'm not complaining about it, same way I'm not complaining about statue. Neither produce any emotion in me. I'm just saying from the sidelines, from my experience as someone who has spent way too much time on this here forum which has been very controversial and had very emotional discussions on pretty much a day to day basis since it opened, that both these posters are engaging in very obvious and transparent (and also relatively harmless) deviousness.

I had a distinct sense of dejavu reading the posts. Poster reincarnation.

I felt a great disturbance in the Clinic, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in relief, and a troll was suddenly silenced. I hear something terrible has been banned.

Why close the Contador not legend thread? I for one think that at least one of the points made by the OP was valid. Quite, I must add. There was nothing wrong with it, other than some fragile egos spaming the word troll like there was no tomorrow. If there was a troll in there, it certainly wasn't the OP, or me, but someone from the opposing majority.

If that was trolling, what's this: http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=21531&highlight=team ?

Ignore works well for that kind of poster. You're not missing anything by ignoring him. Why not?

Like I said before. This forum has had so much experience with trolls and every kind of disruptive behaviour. Way more than others I've been on. Weak **** like this just doesn't fool anyone. You may think - oh if I protest enough that the poster was just posting a different opinion someone may eventually believe me, it won't work. We know he was trolling. You know he was trolling. Crocodile tears won't change that.

It's exactly like statue. He protested that he was wrongly accused of trolling, that he was just offering different opinions, went way over the top with his innocence act. And we know now that he was a troll. Those who cried that he was offering different opinions and accused us of being narrowminded were wrong. Those of us who called it like it was, were right.

What was the reason the Secret Pro links and comment were deleted out of the JTL thread? I thought they were relevant.

Would it be inappropriate for me to suggest that BroDeal needs de-programming like Nicole Kidman did after being married to the King Scientologist?
Just checking.
