Why close the Contador not legend thread? I for one think that at least one of the points made by the OP was valid.
If the mod who did it sincerely thought his actions were defensible, he wouldn't have rushed to shut down the thread in which we questioned them. It looks awfully like an attempt to silence the critics instead of accepting he might have been wrong.

PS: If I get banned for posting this legitimate protest, which wouldn't surprise me after the harassment I've been subjected to both on the open forum and via PM, I'd like to thank all those who participated in the "Contador not legend" debate like grown-ups and respected my point of view, even if they didn't share it. You were great and I wish the CN forums had more of you. Cheers, mates.

I don't know, unless they were by sockpuppet stutue

I replied to a post that pointed out the 404 page, it may have been stutue that I quoted. I guess my reply was taken out with all his other posts. There was nothing controversial in my reply. Just stating it would be interesting what would be deleted if the who post made it back up.

Someone else posted the cached link and that post was also deleted.

All good.

Probably time to let it go fella.
Why? This sets a nefarious precedent: Contador fans are effectively being given carte blanche to decide which opinions are acceptable and which are not. Simply yell "Troll!" a certain number of times and the thread will be shut down and the OP threatened with a ban.

It strikes at the heart of what a discussion board is supposed to be: a place where people with different points of view are allowed to express their opinions.

+1.

On american sports talk radio, a whole show may be dedicated to whether LeBron James or Kobe Bryant is one of the all time great basketball players. It is interesting type of topic because there is no 'right' answer. So, I fail to understand why the original thread was trolling anybody. I find the rationale that the thread was created to denigrate Contador (confirmed by SB in the now closed thread on this sub forum) a hyperbolic notion that is ignoring the actual discussion going on by most of the posters.

If you think someone is a troll, hit the report button and let the mods deal with it. IMO, calling out someone as a troll in a discussion thread is trying to discredit the poster and is never appropriate.

Not hyperbolic, but nonsensical. If he wanted to denigrate Contador, he would not start the thread with this lines: ''Alberto Contador is a great rider who makes for very entertaining racing. His never-give-up attitude has made him a fan favourite, and rightly so. But he'll never be a champion for the ages, like Hinault or Merckx were. Why?'' He then elaborates. The problem is, no matter how many times posters are warned not to spam trolling accusations, they keep doing it, and no proper action is taken. It's now one of this forum's main problems. Anyone giving the thread a quick look would realize that if there was trolling at all, it was coming from the ones who disagreed with the OP. They constantly went off-topic and hurled insults around. But the same people always get away with it.

Impressive that you in the same post whine about "trolling accusations" and at the same time make some vague accusations yourself.

I think its time to let this fight go.

The topic wasn't trolling (in itself). The OP was.

What vague accusation? Care to elaborate? Funny, when the discussion has, somehow, to do with you, you advice to let it go. You should have let it go too in the lead-up to my permaban, which you were so interested in. I could write a post worth of ten pages about it if only I wasn't told not to touch the subject again. You constantly bully other posters.

I hope this post doesn't get deleted.

I predict some bans this evening stemming from the Lance thread in The Clinic.

Call my psychic.

So when is this place going to get rid of SB? He is now deciding what opinions people can hold.

I couldn't give a rats about opinions....everyone has them ;)

Dressing up baits, trolls and insults as "opinion" is a different matter. And funnily enough some here are quite skilled at doing so. It then becomes a case of "boy who cried wolf".

I've generally got no problem with SB's moderation, except when he moderates criticism of himself/herself.

I dont moderate threads I'm engaging in. And I don't believe I moderate or edit criticisms of myself. Closing that thread by HyperMartin was not such despite his protestations.

I apologise if indeed I have "moderated" criticism of moi. I will point out that this is the thread for doing it, not mouthing off in other threads.

yikes... You are really tiresome in the end ...

Scissors working fine, copper's narks doing a great job at sneaking on like French collaborationists in 1942 ...

Have I ever reported anybody to the mods since I registered here. No I haven't... on principle ... The process is ugly! The act of cowards. But in case, the nark was dishonest enough to snip the bit of my post that showed my post was perfectly okay in order to make it "ambiguous". Pathetic!

There was nothing wrong with this post, okay. You just needed to read correctly. You are really annoying, folks. Be aware of the fact that your delete buttons are not toys to play with, okay???

I did not really know whether the post was true or not, but I did not think it needed to be deleted.
Of course if it was misread, it could have seemed as though you were saying all Jews are violent. However it was quite clear that is not what you were saying if you read the post correctly.
I assume it was deleted, because it was read this the wrong way.

We were discussing Bobby Fischer and some of the things he said. If they were said on this forum I would expect the user to receive a permanent ban. They were despicable things to say, full of hate.
