If the supermarket girl short charges at the register then you walk over to the manger and discuss the issue, rationally. You don't stand up on the counter and shout to everyone how useless she may or may not be.

You ever read the stories on Not Always Right?

What you describe up there is exactly what some people do.
Without the standing on the counter part... mostly.

As for the current case. Well... I pretty much only entered this madness from Dr. Mas' post. What lead up to it I have no clue about.

Permaban? Wow, this is the most high-profile permaban I can remember in the history of the forum. Dr. Maserati was highly respected, a forum institution... I wonder what the consequences will be, it may cause an exodus by other posters. Bold move by the mods, but it might backfire....

Dr. Maserati maybe thought he wouldn't get banned... "sometimes, the bigger they are, the harder they kick your a$$"

The forum should be the content not the posters.

Once Porte wins the Giro and Wiggins attacks Froome to win the Tour it will be BAU.

Of course telling a mod he was thereby forbidden from moderating his posts was ridiculous, but being ridiculous is not grounds for a ban, much less for a permaban.

Anyway it's not half as ridiculous as Hog's defense of a measure he would surely oppose if it wasn't directed at Dr Mas.

My take isn't necessarily the so called 'threat'...but how many times he was getting banned...with users or mods, he had to get the last word.

Even in the sidebar thread yesterday when I and the other main protagonists of that thread had stopped, he wanted to keep going.

Not at all. I've always stated; never criticise the mods, never call anyone a troll and don't overly report posts.

That has never changed. I never criticised mods publicly. Ever.

We were all a bit guilty of that - you and I included.

I was surprised by the doctors comment. It wasn't totally out of character long term wise, I've seen it once or twice in 20 thou posts, but it was mostly. It's certainly not how I would have gone about the issue. Knowing what the mods are like here I wasn't surprised he was banned.

But perma? Pleeeeease.
A few days maybe. A week if you want to run wild with it.

For now those who said the forum has changed for the worse are right though. I've gone at it with mas a few times, (and I was in the right), hell, who hasn't, but I think most, on all sides aknowledge he was a more positive force on the forum than negative one. It's not the same without him.

I don't know if the software allows it but the mods could make their life easier if they had the ability to put a poster temporarily into pre moderation mode, such that their posts would be subject to being read prior to appearing, this would have the effect of people self moderating, they could also do it automatically with new users to reduce the effectiveness of sock puppets, I am sure a lot of forums have such powers.

This seems better than frequent bans imo.

I say good riddance! I for one was getting very tired of his generally moderate and well thought out posts.

I just deleted another one of your off-topic posts, which I believe I told everyone to refrain from in the Quick Step thread. You read the request and willfully disregarded it, leaving me no choice. .

There is no "clearing up once and for all".

There is absolutely no proof that Sky are doing anything illegal. If and when something does pop up, it will be made public by the press, not by any one particular Clinic member with some sort of magical "link".

As it is, the Sky talk belongs in the Sky thread.

Everyone please stay on topic.

Genius.

Yes the software does have that ability. But don't hold your breath. They will have to take the forum offline for three days while they do it, and that probably won't happen until, I dont know, the key mountain stages of the Giro or something.

Genius.

lol wow. I missed that. Makes the ban look even more ridiculous, and makes me think Berzin was just trolling dr Mas by deleting his posts.

I don't know why he was ever accepted as a mod.

I think it means to post bullsh*t (literally), get fired as a mod and then come back as a user and claim you "retired because of creative differences" :D

In my head I know it went down like this so even if it didn't this will always be the truth for me :p ;)

lol
thanx christian ;)

That was certainly the impression I got, when it began, yesterday evening.

Why was Dr. M banned? No reason is provided in the ban log. I hope it wasn't for being accurate in pointing out Berzin is useless.

I believe that is exactly the reason.

It seems like something that could've been worked out..via pms or another mod as facilitator..

a permaban is wrong.

:confused::(

The Doc was banned for demanding that no moderator action be taken on his posts.

You either accept this is a moderated forum or you don't. The Doc didn't and has been put out of his misery.

the forum is for the posters, not the mods.

in this case, everyone is saying perma was ridiculous.

the people have spoken.

That's ridiculous.

If someone says his posts shouldn't be moderated, you just laugh and keep moderating them. You don't ban that someone like some sort of Stalinist purge.

The alternative being that you cannot post. i.e a self imposed permaban?

I got the clear impression that Dr Mas felt his posts were being deliberately targeted: that Berzin had an agenda.
This outcome suggests he was correct.

However, he went about rectifying the problem in completely the wrong way.
