speaking as one that saw your report and reviewed the situation, I think I decided that the thing about Amy was that this type of comment/joke had been circling about her for a number of years without comment and that this was just (as you say) a timing thing. It was on the edge but I took the view that it was sufficiently acceptable to remain.

Thanks for the explanation.

Thank you for finally understanding that there is no moderator bias - I simply want to make life a misery for everyone that I can. :D

This made me laugh.

read my post again.

oops
given that the cafe is the source of the majority of 'jokey' non-specific threads, the comments I made are looser but still kind of make sense dont they?

of course there is moderator bias. you may not think so, but that is the nature of biases; they are often subconscious. in addition, since different moderators have different standards, even though they try to conform to one standard, and different moderators focus in different areas, moderation across the forum is inconsistent. the lightest touch seems to be in the cafe which the forum i read 90% of the time. unfortunately, i almost never go in the road forums (and this is a cycling forum?!?) because of the heavy handedness and inconsistency in there.

It's a fun debate to have about what we might mean by consistency/bias. While I agree it is unlikely (and even unrealistic to expect) that every moderator handles things in the same way. I can assure you that siginificant acts of moderation are discussed and in that respect there is generally agreement about what action to take. All active moderators are effectively volunteers and we all have the same aim of allowing a healthy debate about cycling without any poster being used or abused by others.

We really do try our best :) and we consistenly ask or forgiveness when we get things wrong or make mistakes which I am sure happens from time to time. I think describing moderation as 'heavy handed' might be a little strong but I guess it's a subjective assessment and it's what you think so...

And again thank you for all the feedback we get it really does inform and help us do a better job.

Terry

I was wondering why Glenn Wilson cannot have the same avatar as me. I think a couple of people in here have the Betsy Andreu picture up, and somebody told me that there also some swordsman avatars up but I have not really researched that. I don't really care if people have the same avatar.

Glenn has my permission (not that he would need it ) to use the LA avatar that I have used off and on for a couple of years. I believe this picture is when he was at the Espy awards winning more accolades. I support the the use of LA avatars as promotion of the greatest cancer fighter, American racer, and TdF champion in history.

He has done more in his little pinky than Betsy Andrea can even dream of and plus he promotes something other than vindictive jealous hate, so why the double standard with the avatars?

What? There's some sort of rule against two or more forumers using the same avatar? Because a number of us have or have had the same Rebellin avatar as part of a bet.

can 2 'forumers' have the same theme in their avy?

for example can one have eric decker flipping the bird and the other have say, Johnny Cash waving the middle finger also? or is the Cash pic not cycling related?

eh? 180mmcranky how about you answer that one for us?

Chris, E, everything is ok, except that special avatar of yours that used to influence my mojo. ;)

Anyway, Lance-avatars are awesome.

A photo of somone giving the finger would probably not be accepted. And avatars certainly don't have to be cycling-related in any way. LIke mine, for instance.

If you are going to behave like a five-year-old child constantly testing the limits, you will be treated as one. Time out for Cobblestoned.....

Despite the same garbage over and over and over he is allowed to return. I understand you go out of your way to be fair but there are clearly a few posters here whose sole goal is to disrupt by baiting and insulting other members and stretching the limits as far as they can go. Ultimately it makes the forum less usable and is a barrier to new members.....which is their goal.

I agree with this, i think the same few constantly reappear in the same thread with nothing but disruption.

Huh? Who said he can't use the avatar? There is no problem at all with several users having the same avatar.

Susan

i doubt he made it up. maybe some mods aren't as liberal as you in that regard. seems to me it should investigated. i'm sure glenn will tell you who issued that directive.

So, basically you guys choose avatars to bait and troll? And you wonder why you get banned.
Pretty sad really.

Sure whatever you think. In my opinion if what you say is true about the bait and troll then this has happened more than once by various members on this message board. I am speaking in regards to the avatars. I was specifically asked to change it and I complied. Funny how you zone in and find what you want Dr.

Too many times here a difference of opinion is labelled baiting and trolling (and even possibly insulting!!). Just because someone does not agree with you it is not automatically baiting and trolling.
