For goodness sakes. What about ignoring anything so irrelevant as an avatar unless it crosses the line with respect to decency? If you let children play a silly new game, after a few days they tire of it and find something else to do. But if you set restrictions, they'll keep trying to play. This too shall pass. Unless we try to moderate it.

Speaking of which, your avatar is....trying to phrase this in a polite manner.....uh, your avatar is...oh, never mind.:D

Be careful what you wish for - you can ask ChrisE what the consequences are for deliberately baiting and trolling.

There's a world outside this forum. Ask nicely and maybe I'll tell you about it. :D

I think this thread is meant to be about moderation and what a fine job we are all doing ;)

If you want to start a thread about avatars please do.

AND we will post some kind of guidelines about all this later - but it is quite likely to say some like - we have better things to do than police childish spats about avatars. If someone is deliberately trying to get a rise out of another poster by cloning their avatar or simply making antagonising posts please be advised that this is not acceptable behaviour on the forum.

Make sense?

i am guessing, but i think scott means that one or two posters there pretty constantly go after him there. i don't recall him giving back as much as he gets. either he is just being above it or he knows that he would get banned for doing the same thing. but from his previous hiatus, it appears that he has judged the inequity of the moderation.

not that i am calling for more moderation in the politics thread. the nature of the discussion should allow for the freest exchanges.

Seriously? I like to see a free exchange of political views rather than a free exchange of insults, and moderation seems to be the only way to keep the insults in check.

And, more generally, I'm not a fan of humor which serves to belittle other members, no matter how witty it might otherwise be, so appreciate any moderation which keeps it to a minimum.

If you are going to behave like a five-year-old child constantly testing the limits, you will be treated as one. Time out for Cobblestoned.....

Susan

Sorry, Mrs. Westemeyer. Accepted and correct.
I always feel like newborn when I enter this forum. :D
Was just over the line, and for 24h I legitimately had to enter the world of pain and aging.

Despite the same garbage over and over and over he is allowed to return. I understand you go out of your way to be fair but there are clearly a few posters here whose sole goal is to disrupt by baiting and insulting other members and stretching the limits as far as they can go. Ultimately it makes the forum less usable and is a barrier to new members.....which is their goal.

The fact that you turn up here to celebrate my ban, throw stones out of your glasshouse and insult me again, around 15 minutes after my ban was handed out, suits you very well....
Stylish move.

You even claim that my goal was to keep (new) users out of the forum, which is quit ridiculous and an den Haaren herbeigezogen.
I won't accept this. No, no.
Besides that, always start with yourself. You should learn to respect users who might not share your opinion.
babble......right ?
How respectful is the fact that you mark and transform around 50% of user quotes into (troll)-babble ?
Not just talking about me.
It makes the forum less usable and is a barrier to new members.
mods, it would only be fair to let me respond to this and let it stand here. We might both me offtopic. None or all. Thank you.

But weather was really nice, wasn't it ? :D
It helped a lot to survive.
Thinking about sending you a flower-bouquet of corruption to keep me out of bans. Some people are never banned.
But I guess you won't accept it. ;)

Well, about those avatars.....I don't care, but I got more cautious to also read the usersnames intensively again now.
ChrisE really hooked me for a moment. lol
Dottore baiting Susan ? I thought "WTH is going on" ???

yes, seriously. don't insult or condescend and you will probably be treated likewise. in the event somebody does choose to be insulting it is not difficult to ignore it. it is the internet. it is not real.

i have expressed unpopular opinions in this forum and i don't recall being insulted by anybody. that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. i ignore things like that. on the other, not all opinions are worthy of respect. therefore, if one so chooses, denigration may be the appropriate response. moderating that away treats the members as children a priori and validates bad ideas.

if you are not a fan a member's sense of humor i suggest that you don't read what he or she writes and let the other members enjoy it.

It isn't about avatars - the guidelines there are quite clear - this is about trolling.

It is the latest tactic to troll - the very fact of having to second guess the 'avatar' position (which worked well as it was applied to common sense) shows that those engaged have no interest in being part of a forum, but to test it.

What is noticable about this new tactic is how one member was privy to anothers correspondence and then starts baiting the mods over a non-issue.
It would appear to be a co-ordinated effort just to troll.

oh please. friends talk, what is wrong with one mentioning to another that he received a warning for something as innocuous as his avatar? it was brought up in the approriate thread and until you, being the busiest of busy bodies, poked your nose into it, it was a simple, and valid question asked in the correct manner. i think you should receive a 24 hour ban for starting this whole stupid episode with your baiting and trolling of members that you don't like. :D

Not only that, but he dropped the "troll" bomb on me when I brought it up, his motives transparently obvious because of the avatars in question. Then he accused me a being "distributive", whatever that means.

I am glad this discussion has brought out one of the busy bodies of the forum as you say. It is good fodder to enlighten the mod group of the blatant two-faced hypocrital band of hoodlums that runs amok in the clinic.

It wasn't a "simple and valid question asked in the correct manner" - it was an excuse to troll. Don't blame me that for exposing it for what it is, nor is it anyone else fault that you went along with it, you didn't have to poke your nose in to it.

If you don't like being called a troll, then stop trolling.

It is clearly an attempt to bait other users, which lately has increased in regularity. There is a core group of users here who are unable, or unwilling, to engage on a topic and instead resort to blanket insults, baiting, and gibberish to disrupt the forum. When called out on it they claim "persecution" for their "views"

I am wondering if we should open a special 'playground' area for some of these discussions :)

The rules here are really simple. Discuss the topic, try and stay on topic and respectful and stay away from making comments about other forum members.

It's not that complicated. If anyone needs clarification please drop me a note.

Cheers

Terry
