Yes what the hell were they doing?

At the root of this lies a deep hypocrisy.
Speaking of hypocrisy what exactly was Nibali and Team Bahrain’s goal by helping Sky chase down Valverde? Didn’t Nibali complain just yesterday about modern cycling tactics and Sky’s iron fisted control of racing? Weird stuff.

According to the man himself (Nibs) they thought Froome is in trouble because Sky was driving pretty slow pace. Thus they decided to test whether it would actually be true. Of course we all realized later that Froome wasn't exactly struggling :D

Dumoulin is one of those TT specialists remember. When you have a field of cheats it's a bit weird to blame the winner for cheating another cheat.

sigh. Dumoulin is 27. Thomas has 32. You would think by the time a rider reaches 32 we would expect performances like today. Dumoulin has been proving himself since the 2015 Vuelta. Last year's Giro he showed enormous strength and recovery. Thomas has never shown what he did today. I am neither British nor Dutch. I am just an objective observer who relies upon facts, logic and reason to draw my conclusions.

LOL @ fact, logic and reason. This is the clinic.Such things have no place in here!

And yet back in 2015 The Sceptic was predicting G's rise here in this very forum.

Interesting but not surprising

Jakob Fuglsang: "I'm not surprised the others are faster than me but I'm surprised how much faster they are. I just talked with Landa after the stage and he can't believe it either. Says he did less watts last year..."

AG2R did a lot of the pace setting on the mountains today...

Latour went to the front for around 9 minutes. No other Ag2r riders set the pace.

Dillier and Naesen took it up then Latour continued it and it shelled loads of riders from the group. With Sky on the front Quintana was able to ride away and leave the group for dead and Dan Martin tried his best. Roglic went and Dumoulin and Bardet has to chase. Kruijswijk And Roglic managed more attacks once Sky took it back up. Plenty of others contributed today.

Dillier & Naeaen went up the road early on ahead of Sky.

Dillier and Naesen hit the front fwith Latour and Bardet when the pace went up. Latour made it harder. Quintana took more time when Sky were on the front than when Dumoulin was forced to work to chase Roglic and Froome. This was not a day where Sky set an infernal pace and no-one could attack like other examples in this thread. If watts were high from Sky they were high from the other contenders.

Agree, there were other teams contributing yesterday. Add Soler who even increased the pace after Latour.

Anyway, does not change the ridiculous fact that after very hard pace setting of Latour/Soler, there were probably 15 riders left in GC group. Out of which 6 were Sky, led by the climbing monster called Jonathan Castroviejo. I was speechless for a while to be honest.

Re: More riders complain about wattages set at tempo (by Sky

It is surprising but it’s Sky so not surprising Jacob

“It’s surprising that he [Thomas] had such a great Tour,” Fuglsang said Thursday. “He was already good in the Dauphiné and here he kept his form perfectly until now — that’s been a surprise and for a guy who’s never finished in the top 10 in a grand tour before”

https://www.velonews.com/2018/07/tour-de-france/fuglsang-its-a-surprise-to-see-thomas-leading-the-tour_473305

I always get a very distinct "No fair! They're getting a bigger boost from their doping program than me!" vibe from Fuglsang (more so than from other riders who raise an eyebrow when they feel someone else is overdoing it, I mean), but he's not wrong.
