Yeah, I've seen these things. You are absolutely right, the low friction claim is fiction marketing BS at it's best. The real feature of this saddle is the greater fore/aft adjustment that is possible. They made small mention of it in the article, secondary to the low friction bull spit. I don't see the need for the extra adjustment though... maybe that's why Selle has come up with this low friction/time saver claim.

There are a number of frames out there now with iffy seat tube placement meaning that you can struggle to get correct fore/aft without needing to buy a different seat post (I am thinking of bikes like the Felt AR where you need to specify which seat post you need to get the right position.)

If a seat helps to counter than then thats great - but still not really worth martketing...

Did you gain 40 Watts?

Not even close. But I did gain something both on the flat and uphill. It is difficult to evaluate. But my power balance between both legs is much more even and I am able to take longer and stronger pulls in the group rides.

That said, most of the other guys hated it. They said it was too unforgiving and felt like they were always about to fall off the saddle.

Personally I can see some merit in the theory of this saddle but here is how to save 600$ and get the same performance.

Just get an angle grinder and trim the edges off your trusty saddle if its rubbing and file it back. Get a 2$ tube of super glue and glue up any loose material. Go spend the money saved on a few sacks of organic fruits n rice. Problem solved.

Spending 600$ on a saddle that is a few mm wide at the nose is like spending 600$ on a pair of shoes that have long straps that have been factory cut to fit vs you cutting to fit.

I was out riding this morning and bumped into a running mate that drives a van that Nike spend 8000$ on covering in advertising. He says he can pay someone 1500$ at the end of the year to peel off the stickers so instead he does it himself.

The western world is full of people with too much money yet over 50% of the planet live on around 2$ US a day. http://www.prb.org/Journalists/Pres...lftheWorldLivesonLessThan2aDayAugust2005.aspx

But you still won't have the monolink so you will be limited by how narrow you can go.

Speaking of Colnago, who remembers their twin downtube design? What a useless "innovation" that was.

And then there was GT and their "triple triangle design". Man, did they have a load of crap touting that.

Carbitubo. Those were good rides. Teammate of mine was given one in about 1993 give or take a year. It looked magnificent and rode a lot stiffer than the Taiwanese cf I had at the time.

No chiming in that being vegan will give you a bajillion watts?

I was thinking about this post on my ride today and I think the 35-40W is way over estimated. All that friction ends up as heat and there is no way it's 35-40W. If you picture it as a 40W light bulb it would be too hot to touch. I have a pretty narrow seat anyway but my feeling was there isn't a lot of friction there.
