Moustache Man Morgado

Morgado has looked like a sour puss the few times I've seen him on a podium. He doesn't show any enthusiasm for the sponsors or the audience. I wonder if Morgado's lack of results is more mental / emotional than physical.
In Junior, he had the same old-man face with a mustache, but he won or was podium every race  . So I don't think that's why.

It's incredible to think that it was Junior in these photos. He's always had the same expression, and he was very good back then.

Morgado was far superior in Junior, sometimes looking much older than the rest. Perhaps that's his problem, and he has less room for improvement. That world championship was one of the few races he lost, in a sprint.

Could be. He also from January so he have been the oldest of his generation. I’m always a bit hesitant for big talents born in January or February in young cycling.

Bad race again today, in a race that should have gone very well for him.

Let him rest and reconsider what they're doing wrong with him. He seems to start the season well, but it seems very long. This year he had a good month, in very minor races, and then he hasn't had a significant presence in races.

I had a lot of faith in this rider for classics like today's; let's hope he doesn't stagnate.

Curious... In football, the majority of professional football players born between January-April and normally players from October-December, due to relative age effect, don't succeed.
Depends where you are: in English football, autumn births are very much over-represented, as the school year determines what group you participate with in youth leagues.

But I think he is saying that those with a birthday early in the year get better results that don't necessarily indicate future success, because in those early years the relative age artificially boosts their results, but in the longer term, that sort of advantage is not sustained. In a sport like football, where getting picked as a youngster for higher level teams, better access to coaching, being told from an early age that you have the ability to make it, maybe makes more of a difference.

Might be interesting to see the top ten juniors over the course of a few years, their later success as pro's, and whether there is much correlation between that and their birth month.

He will be good again next year from January to somewhere in March or April and then disappears after that.
