it seems most people Chase worked with couldn't stand him but most of them thought he was talented. Think I only saw one of his movies that I liked.

I like Caddyshack and National Lampoon's Xmas Vacation, but not necessarily because of Chase. In fact the cast was so strong in both movies I'm not sure Chase even needed to be there. (I actually fast-forward through a lot of the Chase scenes now when rewatching, I just don't like his style of humor and the aforementioned self-assured smugness that accompanies it.)

I'm waiting for the Netflix release of the new German version of All Quiet on the Western Front. It's in theaters currently in Europe. I'm guessing a few in the US that show foreign films with subtitles. If anyone who lives where it's in theaters has seen it, I'd like to know what you think of it. (Release on Netflix is end of October). Here's a link to info on it for anyone who is interested.

You're welcome. As crazy as this may sound. The only reason I actually know about it is because Daniel Brühl is in it and he posted about it a couple of times including a trailer for it. I follow Daniel as he's one of my favorite actors.

I think Eyes Wide Shut is the best movie I have only seen once - despite the lightening.

The House With Laughing Windows (1976) Italian horror/mystery about an art restorer taking a job at a small town church and getting involved in something the town prefers not to talk about. Very slow but creepy with great locations. The acting is a bit hit and miss. The final 20 minutes hits the mark with one or two very effective scenes. The whole small town secrets angle is very well done and how WWII changed the town forever. Sort of a cult horror movie for fans of that genre with an evocative music score which adds to the atmospere.

We saw The Good Nurse (2022) which reminded me a lot of the Dr. Death (2021). This time with a nurse that was going from hospital to hospital killing people with insulin and digoxin in their fluid bags. Now as we’re both nurses, it is funny and sometimes irritating seeing how wrong shows are. We did think it was a good movie, 6-7 out of 10. It had boring parts and the acting was stiff. On a real life basis it stinks that it happened and hospital companies hid it so they wouldn’t get in trouble, just like with Dr. Death and something that still happens. Just look at the nurse on the East Coast that pulled the wrong med from the Pyxis when it’s been rampant at the facility. Letting the facility potentially continue it. Mistakes aside, it would still be possible with the Pyxis like this nurse performed as you can go to pull a med off the patient’s list and cancel it but the drawer and container already opened. Obviously there are medications that are counted each time and it’d be harder to take extra but if I wanted too I could potentially give my patient more of a hypertensive medication to drop them down. Just like I’m sure there’s nurses that don’t give the patient their meds. On the movie it ended with words on what happened to the good and bad nurses, with the ending that the good nurse stayed a good nurse despite during the movie no evidence of her being good, in fact the opposite.

The Black Phone (2021) - Thought the trailer was better than the entire movie, it made it look spookier and creepier than it turned out to be. At times I actually thought The Black Phone was a parody. I would have never guessed it was Ethan Hawke behind that creepy mask though, so there's that.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) - Couldn't remember whether I had already seen it, I remember back in the 80s there was quite a bit of anticipation for this sequel. I thought the break from Michael Myers and Jamie Lee Curtis was actually nice (back then there was some grumbling, but who knew there would be another dozen sequels featuring Michael Myers and Laurie Strode back in the early 80s?), but the whole Stonehenge and ancient sacrifices angle was a bit silly and unnecessary. Otherwise I think this standalone sequel is actually pretty decent.

Halloween III was a fun movie though the title was a miss and just misled people completely ! Has become a kinda cult movie now, The Black Phone seems to have split audiences. Hope to catch it soon.

We saw The Boy (2016) and The Boy 2 (2020). They are basically a cult horror movies that try throwing curve balls but the second movie goes away from what the first set up. There was a few scares and the plot was okay. I would say they’re on the leprechaun movie level.

Village of the Damned (1995) - The less said the better because I couldn't actually finish watching it... the first thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the bizarre choice of cast, all of which were superstars in their own way but seemed to be a bit desperate for a job when volunteering for this gig. (Mark Hamill=Luke Skywalker, Chris Reeves = Superman, Kirstie Alley = Cheers, Linda Kozlowski = Crocodile Dundee fame, etc.) Casting kids for kids' roles is always a bit rough, so I'll leave the kids out of it. But...

Very disappointing movie from John Carpenter. He made a few turkeys around that time. Like you I couldn't finish it.

Bullet train: A fun flick with interesting visual style, really good sound design imo. Dialogues and characters were a-okay, good enough to keep me entertained for first 90% of the movie. Ending is a bit...lackluster. Overall, a solid 7/10.

The Bad Seed (1956) One of the earliest evil kid movies. Pretty good and was probably controversial in the 50's. Very talky probably because it was based on a stage play with an unexpected ending.

Massive Talent is the Nikolas Cage and Pedro Pascal movie where Cage basically plays himself. It's a comedy. It's funny and has some interesting twists. We enjoyed it.

A Is for Acid (2002) - A TV movie based on real-life serial killer John Haigh, it was interesting and amusing to see Martin Clunes play a different role besides Doc Martin. The way he portrayed Haigh as being charismatic and likeable, yet perfectly mentally deranged...

If I hadn't known this was based on real life I'd say this was merely a lukewarm serial killer movie with the occasional creepy vibe, but Martin Clunes makes it worth a looky.

I read a book about him . One of the earliest murder cases that gripped the entire country. Needles to say they sold a lot of newspapers. Clunes is so good in Doc Martin. Shame its on its last season at the moment.

The Fog (1980) Not a bad movie but it doesn't approach the level of Carpenter's best films. Great location and visually good but the story is nothing special. More of an atmospheric movie than an interesting one. Nice music score as well from Carpenter himself.

First time I saw The Fog I was pretty young, the atmosphere really spooked me. It's not as good as the original Halloween, but atmospherically speaking it's very well done.

Moonbase (1997) - A very generic and predictable plot with generic acting and unimpressive sets, given a bigger budget and left in more competent hands this could have turned out much better. (At least the sets could have been made to look more space-like, it's not often you see a sci-fi flick take place at a waste disposal plant on the moon. )

Invaders From Mars (1986) remake of the 50's classic. Watchable at best.

Legend Of Hell House (1973) The ingredients were there for a much better movie. Still as far as haunted house movies go, this was one of the better ones .

The Omen (1976) after the release of The Exorcist there was a run of antichrist and possession movies. This was one of the better ones. Good performances from Lee Remick and Gregory Peck and some striking set pieces. Still stands up pretty well.

Watched the new German version of All Quiet on the Western Front. We thought it was very good. It's really good at showing what is happening on the front lines, as well as the attempts of negotiations to end the war. I think it does a decent job of showing the sheer number of people who died during WWI.

Hangar 18 (1980) fun UFO conspiracy thriller. Familiar story but entertaining enough with a cast of well known Hollywood faces.
