Yes the first things you notice in the older movies now is the smoking and the conversation between men and women and of course the fashions and house interiors. The guy that was constantly trying to get a date with Lauren Hutton was painful................at one point in her modelling career she was the highest paid model in the USA and some of her magazine covers were huge sellers at the time.

The Witch (2015) creepy, atmospheric horror thriller about a family of Puritans that are banished from their village to the outskirts of a forest. Well acted and visually good with the washed out colors of the forest in winter. A slow burn kind of movie that gets more tense as it goes along. Very good first film directed by Robert Eggers. The only minus was that it was hard sometimes to pick up some of the dialogue, with the cadences of the authentic 17th century English style.

I've been listening to film podcasts of late, the kind where two people talk about a film from 1 hour to up to 4 hours, for a two hour movie.
The other day I listened to their Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior and their commentary prompted me to watch it again as an adult, instead of the teenage boy I was when it became a favorite of mine.

Staying Alive
From 1983..written, directed and produced by Sylvester Stallone. Staring John Travolta.. This movie is super complicated.. I decided to describe it as unwatchable but I watched it.. It's a cinematic train wreck.

It's unwatchable.. and the cast is huge.. including Will Ferrell.. this movie should come w free food coupons and $50 bucks being deposited in your bank account..

Rewatched The Running Man (1987) for the umpteenth time - Arnie at his best, this is such a fun, sci-fi action flick. It's clearly high budget with the costumes, sets, and special effects, and has such a great cast, including some of the WWF wrestlers I used to watch back in the 80s! 
Would definitely recommend for an entertaining 90 minutes.

Mustn't forget The Terminator... I'll probably be on an Arnie kick now and will have to rewatch all of his movies from the 80s!
Btw., I recently saw a new commercial with Schwarzenegger and I'm not even sure what it's advertising, but even at 76 Arnie still has it. I think he's just so naturally charming and funny - some of his movies aren't the best and you already know what to expect. But he's really hard not to like.
EDIT - Somewhat vaguely related Peyton Manning's commercials are pretty funny too because he has has natural comedic timing, it's about the last thing I would expect from a former NFL great. He and Arnie aren't afraid of looking silly - they could sell just about anything and are laughing all the way to the bank doing it.

Of course, The Terminator as well. Since his heart problems he seems to be doing well again although his movie career is obviously a lot quieter. Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson are still pumping them out. The 80's was obviously his decade, just one hit after another.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence as a loser girl who inherited a house from her mom..gets behind on taxes and gets involved in a plan for parental payments to seduce their son so " he is really for college ". You have seen this movie and all the same set ups dozens of times, really falls flat..
Matthew Broderick plays the father in No Hard Feelings.. He also plays the Purdue Pharmaceutical mastermind in PainKiller a Netflix take on Dope Sick. Broderick and everyone else are excellent.. But Michael Keaton and Dope Sick are a little better at the opioid epidemic story.

Ju-on : The Grudge (2003) Japanese horror/thriller. Has some creepy moments Not a great movie but pretty good. Well directed but doesn't reach the tension levels of other Asian classics like Ringu or Audition.
Deadly Friend (1986) minor league effort from Wes Craven. More of a horror/comedy for teenagers and it doesn't succeed with either. For Wes Craven devotees only. Pretty mediocre.

The Deep House (2021) - Visually this horror flick was actually pretty spooky because the setting was a house that is completely under water and visitors to it have to dive to explore it, but the rest was pretty forgettable. The storyline was reminiscent of one of those "hidden objects" video games I like to play online (it's mostly incoherent), and the dialogue was especially inane. There were plenty of jump scares and shaky cameras and I'm not a fan of either...
I think what actually would have been more interesting than the movie itself is a documentary on how they filmed it under water and such... evidently they were filming in a huge water tank and submerged the house one piece at a time pending on the scene, this I definitely would be interested in seeing!

The Hand (1981) horror/thriller. Well acted. Some good moments and a few unintentionally funny moments. Michael Caine and Andrea Marcovicci tried hard with the material they had. An early movie from Oliver Stone. An okay watch.
The Witch (1966) Italian gothic horror. Interesting movie. Great setting in a crumbling old mansion in Rome. Well acted and never boring with a good music score including a great dance scene. Superior movie of it's type.

Robot Overlords (2014) - Sci-fi for teens, it was okay. The robots looked a little cheap and the tone was a bit too cutesy for my taste, but if this an introduction to sci-fi (and Ben Kingsley and Gillian Anderson) for youngsters it'll do.

Without Limits (1998) with Billy Crudup and Donald Sutherland is also pretty good. Weird how both films about Prefontaine came out at just about the same time...
Trilogy Of Terror (1975) Made for TV three story anthology movie which were pretty popular in the 70's. Karen Black starred in each story and was very good in three very different roles.. The film became a cult classic mainly for the last story which was the most memorable. Directed by Dan Curtis who also directed other successful TV movies from the 70's such as The Night Stalker. Black had an interesting career and was also a good singer but she never became a big star even though she had a dedicated fan base.
