As far as I remember D-A-D were pretty close to breaking in the US with the 'No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims' album and especially the classic single
'Sleeping My Day Away' and the follow-up album 'Riskin' It All'. But for some reason they never really did get that breakthrough. But at least they're Danish legends, which is something I guess. That's like being the Nico Eeckhout of hard rock - huge on a lower level
I've never been much of a fan myself, I admit, but I did own 'Helpyourselfish', which was quite decent. But really not my thing at all.
Anyway, now I'm listening to Jason Molina - 'Let Me Go, Let Me Go, Let Me Go'. Probably one of the starkest and bleakest albums I've heard. It's almost unbearable to sit through, but if one's in the appropriate masochistic mood, it'll work wonders, I suppose. As Molina sings,
"alone with the owls howling pain, pain, pain". NOT a party album.
