Today showed that Nairo isn't actually boring and conservative like many have called him when he actually feels good. Very impressive ride by him today.

Can't really see Froome challenging Quintana. In my opinion Froome would need an advantage by now to stand a chance, given that he is more likely to fade in the 3rd week. It appears highly unlikely that Quintana won't stash up at least 2 more minutes on Froome before the time trial, and in that case, the Vuelta is very difficult to lose.

He talked about Lagos pre-race, it just makes it so much more satisfying to win here, especially considering he never got the stage win at Alpe d' Huez. Well, not yet at least. A GT-win with stage wins, especially on mythical climbs, feels so much better.

It will be very interesting to see what the tactic will be going into Cabarga. I don't really care as long as he wins and cements it on Aubisque which he should be capable of, Rasmussen 2007-style. Best cycling memory along with Don on Courchevel.

It's time to celebrate - a bit - the win and the lead but he fell today too, it could be a really worry for the coming stages. Pain comes one or two days after falling down so wait and see.

Very earlier in the stage (km 31 or 33 I think), he changed his bike and his jersey seemed ripped on his back. It could be worse - look at Irizar and Reza - but it's never good.

But surely it was hardly anything considering how Movistar chased and Quintana rode, but you obviously never know. Rest day tomorrow will also help if there's something.

Quintana finally did what the critics asked him to do, but it's not all sugar and spice. Once again he proved he only gives it a go when he feels absolutely superior, which severely limits his possibilities in general. Plus Movistar are already saying they're content with his current lead, which is worrisome.

"Si lo dejamos llegar con ese tiempo a la crono de Calpe, sigue siendo favorito. Calculo que nos harían falta unos tres minutos para llegar tranquilos."

Tres minutos.

No problem, Im sure I speak for many of his fans when I say I'd love to see him more aggressive (at times), but I don't think you can criticise him today.

Man, I am so glad he is back to old form again. When he's good, he's really good. A joy to watch. This is the Quintana I remember from the early years. Just attacking and crushing everything in his path.
I think he's just a bit smarter. He knows he'll be hard pressed to drop Froome or Contador early, so he waits until they go to counter. His accelerations are a bit sharper too.

Yes, his style is a joy to behold. Of the Big Four, he is by far the most stylish looking when the road goes uphill. Makes it look so easy.

Was very telling how with 5 km to go today he was talking to some fan along the road and still had time to swipe 15x on his gps

I think he's just back to good form and the others aren't quite so good.

This isn't even the best Nairo but it's also definitely not the best Froome and Contador either.

I reckon he could have taken more time today but he was hesitant to really attack hard early today having made pace for Contador in case the latter was waiting for a counter, hence his big dig to break Contaodr coming pretty close to the mini-descent (margin for error).

All in all, looking good. He'll probably need to take a chunk more time but on this evidence there's no reason to believe he can't do it.

IMHO. Nairo did exactly what he needed to do today. However he needs more time on the Alien. At least 1 minute more. The Itt Froome will Boss.

The most surprising thing for me was that although he initially hesitated, he was prepared to push on with Contador in the wheel, knowing the danger of Froome behind. Well done to Nairo for that
