I don't see Quintana and Contador getting back into the race for the podium unlike some other people. There wasn't much reason for the favorites to chase hard as they were far enough down GC.The stage was 100 kms long and won't be typical of the rest of the race. I still see the top four riders being the strongest and without his fall Martin would have to be included but he is still riding well. Someone will have to crack badly or have some bad luck for Quintana to reach the podium and Contador is trying hard but too far back. It's hard to see Quintana doing his usual strong third week this time even though he did well yesterday.

I agree that the podium is still a long shot for Quintana and would need a miracle for Contador. But at least Quintana has given himself a chance, thanks to his aggressive riding.

I always thought that it was Nairo himself who pushed to do the double this year. Originally Movistar were saying that he would only be doing the Tour and not the Giro but this changed when he kept contradicting them by saying he would do both. Seemed to me that what Nairo wanted he got.

Presumably the pressure of expectation in Colombia is getting to the family.

Nairo himself pushed for the double. Movistar tried to stop the nonsense but finally they were convinced.

Again don't pay attention to his dad because you know he probably had some drinks before the interview. You have to understand the people from Boyacá. They are not the typical city people.

I hate to say this but I think Nairo will finally fade away in the third week. Same with Landa. Martin has a bad back. Simon Yates is not as strong. So those two are the next ones to go along with Quintana and Landa. Now we have four riders left. Somehow I feel like Aru will fade away because of his lack of depth in racing this year. So I guess is the other three for the podium.

It seems that people have forgotten or are choosing to ignore this as all I keep hearing on commentary is how Movistar made him do it as though he had no part in the decision.

A bit like a few posters on this forum then!!! The press are of course always looking for a quote to stir things up.

In all probability what you're saying is closer to the truth than not.

But I wanna see him attack on both wednesday as thursday (if he has the legs) in first place for Movistar and himself and than in sake of the race.

It's his 4th GT in a row (the only rider of GC guys to do it in an long time) and what will be his last week of GT racing in this year..I expect him to go all-in. He, together with Contador, can kick up commotion in this last week and I fully expect him to do it. There are no other options than to play aggressively from here on (If he wants to achieve something in this race) and I think he himself also realise this.

He should go at Croix de Fer. Risky, I know, but really the only opportunity left now I'm thinking about it.

He did that in 2016 but that didn't turn out well either.

The big question is last year form. That's the one that confuses everyone.

Anyway, who cares now, at least focusing on only the Tour he knows he has a chance. He could have missed the chance of his life this year.

He could, but I am not putting my money on him.

Hes completely empty. Its all done. In fact it seems this is way it was throughout this tour. Stage 13 was the only surprise from him all this tour. Rest it seems is all down the hill. And I do agree given last year's tour I really dont know what can Nairo do to win the tour.

Hindsight yes but I would have thought a fresh Nairo sans Giro could have taken this tour given the patchy form Froome is showing. Anyways on Tour 2018 now.

Probably the last combination left for Nairo is to do only one GT a year.

Quintana is no Valverde or even Contador. Valverde can ride GT's in a row and you barely realise it, many times he seems stronger! Contador managed to win the Giro and at least top-5 in the Tour, thats suddenly more impressive now. Quintana has a long way to go - in hindsight, he should just have defended the Vuelta instead. I still think it was the right call to try the Giro.

I just watched a post-race interview to Nairo who looks & sounds completely spent, empty, tired, & frustrated..... gotta say, He should just finish the Tour, go home & end the season all together......
