I'm still wondering why he waited so long before continueing.
It doesnt match with the rest of his ride (which wasn't that bad) at all

from personal experience, very big shock. most likely didn't know who he was and where. also if he still has legs, hands or any bones in one piece left.

there were many riders in cycling who abandoned after a crash just because of instant shock, see samu sanchez in tdf 2011 it was i think

left ankle bothers him and he'll try to help Valverde and get a podium spot for himself

Pfff Nairito  one moment not focused and boom. How he still handled that curve despite the high speed showed he's a good bike handler though. Guys like Froome would have flown over that barrier.

Very good news for Contador.

A great shame for Nairo to have such a nasty crash :(

This vuelta isn't over for him unless he has a serious injury.

This isn't over at all, if he really is one of the great ones of the next era, it's time to show the world what he can truly do when he's pushed in this situation.

That's how you recognize the great ones, prove it quintana.

I really looked forward to this quintana vs contador battle though :(

unfortunately, he seems happy to help alejandro to get the podium and probably he won't be selfish at all. only if alejandro cracks big time, he will attack. this happens also because he feels no pressure in this race after winning il giro. we'll see tomorrow how he will feel but i really doubt that he will attack. only if valverde tells him that he's fine

Nairo's "try to help Valverde and get a podium spot for himself" it's like Alberto's "I'll try to take a stage on the 3rd week".

Perhaps tomorrow the crash is still recent and lost more time but he can do well the final week.

All I am worried about now is that he is ok and that this crash do not affect his performance.

From the replay it looks like he should be OK.

Dear pro-cyclists: you have to concentrate 100% going downhill - even if you're good bike handlers. Contador proved that in the Tour, Quintana now.

I'm pretty sure Froome past that corner without going over the barrier. He also wouldn't be adjusting his shoe before a tricky corner.

At such high speed I mean, but of course the shoe thing was a rather silly mistake from Nairo.

Dammit. Another GT with a favorite crashing heavily. I really wanted to see Contador/Quintana duel in the mountains.

this is a crash where it could all end. i feared the worst when i saw the images and that barrier. at that speed, it acts like a blade. it was just a tumble and a huge shock to his body and especially to the mind. very good that he continued, he did very well. we'll see tomorrow if he attacks from the foot of the climb, that would be nice

Yeah I didn't see it live so I knew he was relatively ok, but considering the place and the circumstances of the crash, a better outcome wasn't possible. I can't even think of what would've happened if he didn't land on the road but on the crash barrier itself... Tumbling over would've been nasty too, although less so I suspect.

Also I can't wait to troll Contador fans after the Vuelta saying he only won because the others crashed :p

Please let him not be too badly hurt... race needs him to attack otherwise it could be a bit of a parade like other two GTs this year (although it's never dull with Bertie).
100% words my opinion.;)

How so? On TV it didnt look very serious, he just elegantly landed while in a roll, and this roll lessens the impact by a lot. And that was before I heard his interviews. In retrospect, it is possible his ankle clipped the barrier.

And come on man, you can't blame this crash on anyone other than Quintana. It always sucks seeing the rider crash, it sucks even more if its not because of his own doing, but thats not the case here.
