Anyone know the latest on Quintana? He was going to do the Giro and then didn't, is he doing the Tour? No Dauphiné or Suisse. Route du Sud perhaps?

2 months training in Colombia at 3000m altitude. He is coming to Europe only 3 days before the Grand Depart. So his schedule is Tour,San Sebastian and then maybe Vuelta

No hits at all recently for the combination Quintana and Vuelta on the web.

try twitter, but it was couple of days ago,so...

Anyway..
What do you guys think about his chances at Tour if he survives 1st week?(I mean, situation where he has same time as Movistar team after TTT,it should be around +20s to Froome imo)
So before Ax3 he has +20s,what next?what can we expect?Co-leader with Valverde?Only a domestique?Attacking or not?

I think he will lose some time in one of the early flat stages and than he will win on Alpe after an attack on the Sarenne.

Yeah,Im afraid you are right. Its very likely he will lose time in first week, cos of his recent altitude training.
On the other hand the Alpe thing is cool;)

I think he'll mostly be doming for Valverde, but if Valverde falters/crashes out/loses a big chunk of time then I could see him getting the opportunity to ride for himself. And it wouldn't surprise me if he was given a little more of a free role on some of the bigger climbing stages as well (like Alpe du Huez, that would be a good stage for him).

If he does get more of a free role for GC, then I could see him getting a top 10 and the white jersey.

whats the movi team. They have some v good climbers but 3 were spent on the giro (benat, scarponi ( i mean errr visconti) and cobo lol)

rui costa is still top notch so i dont see why valverde would even need quintana cept at the real backend of stages. Because afterall Sky do all the pacing so he doesnt need that, all he needs is someone to stay with him just in case.

In a dream world Movi would make an alliance with saxo/katusha, to send quintana with Spillack/Moreno, or Rogers/Kreuziger up the road together so they are harder to catch.

Otherwise i think these talents will be mostly wasted on small "what if" roles.

Very agree, but its only a dream world.Still I hope Quintana will focus on GC!

Nice article in Procycling this month about Quintana.

In the piece a member of Sky's management set-up said they "won't be a giving him any room to manoeuvre at all." Matt Rendell did say he got told by Brailsford during Pais Vasco that he thought he was a future Tour winner. It does seem they are wary and worried about him.

Now Movistar leave him loose from the shackles.

I have to get that edition: who is on the cover? There are so many cycling mags I get confused.

I do remember reading a quote recently from Chris Froome where he specifically singled out Quintana as a main concern for the Tour. Which, as a Quintana fan, left me both excited and very nervous. By the way, the cycling parade for Quintana was posted on Facebook and it looked really lovely, I'll go and find the direct link.

Great rider, really like him. I hope he can stick it to sky and cause some real trouble for froome. I wish he'd got some more racing in at either the tds or dauphine. He's coming into the tour after lots of altitude training which isn't so great.

"Only you young nairito have the power to bring about the downfall of the skyborgs. Now go forth, complete the Colombian renaissance, destroy the skyborgs, and WIN THE TOUR!!!! :D

Realistically though, I could easily see Quintana being one of the main guys to cause Froome and Sky some problems in the mountains. As long as he doesn't have to ride too much in valverde's shadow, Nairo for a top 10 and white.
