well, competing with sagan, if others won't, would mean that the rider competing with sagan would win the czech nationials, wouldn't it? But my point was elsewhere. 2 or 3 years ago, sagan and stybar went alone to the finish a did not sprint against each other. It might have been caused by the fact that it was raining and the finish was on cobbles, but still, the fans wanted to see that sprint

He used to be, but he already said last year that he wants too focus more on one day races, so who knows.
It's probably too long for Quinziato, he prefers shorter ITTs.
It should be a nice fight between Boaro, Moser and Cataldo and it's great to see Felline on the startlist.

Spanish Championships start tomorrow with the time trial, men's elite race is on saturday (moved forward a day because of the general election!).

TT course is rolling, but not especially hilly:

Start list includes: Alejandro Valverde (apparently signed up at the last minute), Ion Izagirre, Jesus Herrada, Lluis Mas, Diego Rubio, Mikel Landa and Ruben Plaza (the race is around his home town). There is no Castroviejo or LLS, so one of the Movistar riders will be favourite.

The road race is also a hilly course and has a ridiculously strong field

The startlist includes:

Valverde, Ion Izagirre, Herrada (Movistar)
Contador, Hernandez (Tinkoff)
Rodriguez, Vicioso, Losada (Katusha)
Plaza (Orica)
Landa (Sky - no other Spanish Sky riders - so expect a long solo attack!)
Bilbao, Prades, Pardilla (Caja Rural)
Valls (Lotto)

Difficult to see past Valverde is he has any kind of form, but there are suggestions that Izagirre may go in at least as co-leader. This is the first time Contador has raced it since 2011, and Purito's first time since 2007!

Kind of strange that Spain's 3 best TTers (IMO-Lulu, Castro and Berto) aren't participating in the Spanish ITT championships. Think Izagirre will win.
Valverde for the RR, or a "surprise" win - one of the Caja Rural guys with a late attack.

Regarding the ITT, I would have thought especially Lulu would want to put in a convincing performance to secure a spot at the Olympics, but maybe he has been promised a spot already - or maybe he doesn't want to go

Izagirre is THE best Spanish ITTer right now IMO.

I'd agree with that. In fact, based on this season, he's one of the best in the world. His result in the Algarve, on a pretty flat course, was pretty special - and he's already proven himself on anything hilly.

Izagirre is THE best Spanish ITTer right now IMO.

I'd agree with that. In fact, based on this season, he's one of the best in the world. His result in the Algarve, on a pretty flat course, was pretty special - and he's already proven himself on anything hilly.

Maybe on a short to medium-length course, but I would still bet on Castro or Luis Leon over him for a long ITT, and they are no slugs on shorter courses either. And in GTs Contador will always have the edge.

That would be good if Castroviejo starts as well, makes it a lot more competitive. I'd read that Valverde had replaced him at the last minute, but hopefully they will both be there.

It's difficult to see how anyone can stop Movistar completely controlling the race. It just doesn't look hard enough for Contador or Landa to get away anywhere. I wonder if they will split the team to have half riding for I.Izagirre and half for Valverde, or perhaps even give four or five riders a free role to keep morale high ahead of the TdF.

Wow he actally pulled it off, his last great pperformance in an over 20km long ITT was pobably the 3rd place in the Österreich-Rundfahrt ITT a few years ago.
