Clyde Edwards-Helaire was out for the 2nd straight week with the shoulder injury. Their run game struggled with Mahomes getting almost half of the team's total 135 rushing yards all out of scrambles. McKinnon didn't look that great. They definitely need a healthy Edwards-Helaire for the playoffs.

In fact, he's starting to look like an injury concern who's showing a lack of durability to be an every down RB. He missed almost half the season going on IR for the MCL sprain in Oct & now the shoulder. He missed some games last year with assorted injuries. I don't think Reid took this in guy in the 1st rd to end up being injury prone & not their main guy to improve their rushing game.

I’m honestly hoping Steelers make the playoffs just so Ben can hopefully have a final hoorah and maybe stun some teams. Crazy that Jacksonville keeps their streak alive against Colts.

Even crazier if they make the Super Bowl. I think what would be bad for them, is if the Bucs make the Super Bowl with Brown one year and half and Bell the next.

49ers keep finding ways to beat the Rams.. Crazy game.
Very crazy but when it got tied up I had a feeling Stafford was going to have an interception.

Crazy Chargers vs Raiders game with Chargers coming back down 15 with 4:58 left too tie it with having multiple 4th and 10s. Then both teams get a field goal and Raiders looking content to run the clock out until Chargers call a timeout to try and get the ball back. As good as aggression is, their HC has cost them plenty of games this year.

Steelers in(!) and we get to see if they can pull a huge upset over Chiefs.

McKinnon didn't do much at the 49ers after being out for two seasons with injury then he dumped on the team when they didn't re-sign him. Williams does okay at RB for the Chiefs but he's no Edwards-Helaire.

I don't remember a RS as filled with upsets / incredible games / come from behind wins.
Week 18 was the cherry on top, three OT games and every team winning these games made the playoffs.

I thought Chargers and Colts would give us a better shot at some entertaining WC games but both lost the most important game of their seasons. Colts completely choked. Chargers went back in time and played what reminded me of some Rivers games of the past: ton of mistakes, penalties, muffed punts, drops, etc. They even had the late impossible surge and converted SIX 4th downs to tie the game, bring it to the OT and tie again. Don't know if Staley's time out changed much, but ultimately they were killed by their run defense (as in most of the season).

Cardinals lost another winnable game and missed the chance of home field for the WC. Not necessarily a bad thing, considering they've been terrible in Glendale this season, but the Rams matchup is just bad for them. Niners @ Cowboys will make the boomers happy.

Not at all surprised by Nagy, Zimmer either really, Flores a little. I won't be surprised if Joe Judge is canned in NY, but the Giants have more problems than him. I just hope these teams have some sort of idea who they are looking to pursue, or what their management and coaching staff look like. Time again in the past teams have fired questionable coaches, only to not have any plan or vision, and hired someone worse. The Jaguars are a good example, same with the Lions in the last decade (though Dan Campbell looks pretty solid, for now). The Browns did this for years as well, though they look in a good position too. Mark Davis, may or may not have a decent idea in Vegas for the Raiders. To be looking at Jim Harbaugh, and apparently one other name coach that hasn't been leaked yet, is a good idea. But is this a decision that involves Maycock? If not, he should be shortly let go once the Raiders season is done.

For an example of a team who isn't falling into the emotional trap of firing coaches, I think Seattle has the right idea. They didn't have a good season, and have had personnel issues for a couple years, but finding a better coach than Pete Carroll (and better GM than Schneider) would be all but impossible.

Trent Baalke needs to be fired in Jacksonville. I don't care about the win over the Colts. Good article on his history of bad decisions, but also being a survivor.

Flores firing was a weird one considering the way they finished the season. Zimmer and Nagy were predictable. Baalke was a disaster at the 49ers, God knows what the Jags were thinking.

Early Wild Card predictions:

SATURDAY

LV@CIN - While the Raiders have overachieved beyond comprehension at times, the Bengals are loaded with talent, and at home, but young. The Raiders may also be running on fumes. The game should be close though.

NE@BUF - While I realize the Bills got revenge in their rematch in Foxboro, I think the sting of that home loss to NE mid-season, a game they should have won, has to be on their minds. Like the LV-CIN game, the Bills simply have more talent in my eyes, and I don't think Mack Jones can win big games, in the clutch, against good defenses (yet). Against the Bills defense, in the cold and wind of Buffalo...

SUNDAY

PHI@TB - While I'm picking Tampa, despite the big loss to Dallas the Eagles have quietly been playing solid football in the last have of the season, going 7-3, more steady than the Bucs, and seem pretty healthy. They also have no drama, while TB has plenty. This game could be closer than it may look on paper One of those 33-31 games.

SF@DAL - The Cowboys record seems bloated, the 49ers are the opposite, and able to handle big games. Dallas has been 5-3 at home, while SF 6-3 on the road. The 49ers have been nerve wracking much of the season, but I'll take them in an upset, unless the Cowboys high powered offense can pile up enough points to make it out of reach late.

PIT@KC - They played in week 16 with the Chiefs jumping to an early big lead and winning easily. I don't expect the same game, but I don't see Pittsburgh's defense able to slow Mahomes. I will say though I am worried about KC deeper in the playoffs, like the Cowboys, and Rams, they seem ripe for an upset.

MONDAY

ARI@LAR - Both of these teams are capable of blowing games. Both are capable of making wins look easy. I feel comfortable saying whomever wins this game, likely loses the following week. The Cardinals are almost lucky this game is away, as they were 8-1 on the road, including a win in LA early in the season.

Both Green Bay, and especially Tennessee, will benefit greatly from resting a week.

Out of your predictions, the two likely to spoil it is the Cowboys and the Patriots. The Cowboys I think will win, however it depends what version of their offense we see. The Patriots do have a solid case of winning. Despite coming off an ugly loss, Bill Belichick will probably have them working. It’s supposed to be 25 degrees with about 30 percent chance of snow. If it’s windy, Pats are favored because of their run reliance. I don’t think that will be the best wild card weekend game.Other than that, your predictions are spot on.

Yes!!
I didn’t expect that at all. He came into a losing culture and set up for failure in 2019 and then had two winning seasons. They’re right on the cusp and he is far better then Adam Gase or Joe Philbin. If Flores had the teams Gase had he definitely makes the playoffs. The last two seasons they blew games to make the playoffs but that is in their history, they’re playing harder for Flores then they did before.

I think the same outcomes but with shockers next week of KC, GB, or Bucs being knocked out.

More surprising to me than Flores getting sacked was the GM Chris Grier being retained. I totally agreed with the way they've stockpiled draft picks and they have hit on some but probably not enough. Their offensive line is mostly recent high draft picks and I'm not sure they have one good player there. But of course the main problem and the choice that will always be talked about is taking Tua instead of Herbert. I doubt that a new head coach is going to fix that

I always wonder when a team fires a coach that did OK, like Flores.
No playoffs in his 3 yrs is why. Same with Fangio. C'mon now...don't feel sorry for these HCs that get fired. Before you can say SB, they'll be offered gigs as coordinators still getting a million $$$ plus salary. Then in a few years their name will come up again as candidates for HC vacancies. Lol. The job security for a HC in the NFL is unreal - get fired one day & offered a high-paying coordinator job the next day.

On Carroll: Just because he's a SB winning coach he gets to stay there forever? Think of all the young buck coordinators out there that want a shot as a HC. Carroll might be too old to want to take a coordinator job, but he'd be quickly scarfed up by one of the networks as a talking head with the other old retired coaches that we see on these on pre & post-game shows.

I always wonder when a team fires a coach that did OK, like Flores, who is going to be better? Let's say they get Bieniemy, we don't know how he will be as a head coach. How long will they give the new coach to build. Two years? With Tua?

Some people have said that Pete needs to be gone from SEA, but who is out there that is going to come in and do better?
Flores? :D

Jokes aside, I believe the two situations are very different and I would advocate for a change of coaching staff if Wilson is traded. Carroll's approach to the game seems a bit outdated to me + he hasn't been able to rebuild the outstanding defense the team used to have with the legion of boom. The team has played only one Divisional in the past 5 years while having an elite QB in his prime. What's the ceiling with Carroll at this point?

Good two games to finish the season for Seattle. Where do the go from here? Do they stick with Pete and Russ? Do they players at multiple positions, do they focus more on defense or offense? Do they try and break the team up and start the rebuilding phase immediately? It didn’t look like that would be the case a year or two ago, but now they may have to think about that.

The O only needs a few solid linemen. The D only needs a DB or two. I don't see them as a 'project' at this point. Obviously if RW leaves, that changes the discussion.

The ceiling is the superbowl. I don't completely disagree that coaching is part of what happened this year (and others), but who is going to step in and do a better job?
