WTF! How can SEA have a bad O line every Fn year?!

KICK THE EXTRA POINT in the first half! If they would have kicked the point after, they would be down by a FG, but because they over thought it, they are down by 4...STUPID! STUPID! STUPID coaching!

EE with a TD for DAL! Its just like old times!

Cheetah held by police, but not the Jags!

Diggs still a TD machine!

EDIT: SEA with the win!

It's hard to tell if Dallas looked that good, or Cleveland was really that bad. Watson had another horrible game. Compare this to the game Baker Mayfield had for Tampa:

Mayfield: 284 yards, 4 TD's 0 int
Watson: 169 yards, 1 TD, 2 int, 1 fmbl

Watson's numbers would be even worse if not for garbage time production. Watson looked lost, disinterested, unmotivated.

The Steelers looked good. I'm not so sure about Fields, who actually played okay. But Nomad (anyone) could argue Kenny Picket would have won this game as well, and maybe got them in the end zone when Fields couldn't.

I'm going to have to look closer at why the Bengals looked so bad. Burrow looked surprisingly flat. A slew of short check down passes and screens. Or is he the new Jimmy Garappolo? Once pretty good, led a team to a Super Bowl, but now too many injuries have aged him?

Despite some bad plays, Nix showed resilience for Denver, who came to fight. I like the way Payton was aggressive in his play calling. Pedal to the metal, don't give up, play to win.

The exact opposite of Luke Getsy (OC) for the Raiders whose offense was anemic. Very conservative play calling. Chargers played okay, enough to win.

Oh boy, the Broncos are off to a great start with the next "Drew Brees." Lol. They can't even beat a mediocre team in Seattle. Lol. Nix throws a pick into triple coverage that kills a Bronco drive...pathetic.

The next Brett Favre throws a game losing pick-6. Lol. The next Payton Manning sucks & the Jags lose to Dolphins. A dumpster fire in Carolina & Vegas...what's new. Lol.

The NFL QB clown show is in full swing for 2024.

They played to lose. At the end of day, all that matters is the "W's." I thought Payton was a winner? His arrogance sure seems to suggest that. Lol.

Nix didn't perform well enough to win. He throws a pick into triple coverage that kills a drive. His coach has characterized him as the next "Drew Brees." Brews wouldn't throw a stupud pick like that. But Nix laughs last - he got a sweet rookie contract with a $10.3 million signing bonus. Lol

Couldn’t watch the Dolphins game since out of network and haven’t had time to see highlights but it was a good grind our win. I don’t know if it’s just the Sunday morning games or a glitch; but the NFL app wasn’t showing anything about the out of network games when last year they’d show the score, who had the ball, and down and distance. Same with Google search for NFL week 1 not showing who had the ball and down and distance but they did the score. Then the afternoon games it showed like normal on Google.

Bucs with a great win and they look to be improved from last year. Evans and Godwin still popping off.

Saw tidbits of Brady’s commentary and he sounded good, he was just watching a beat down by Cowboys.

Lions had a great home win against the Rams. Like the first two games of the year, both teams had a chance to pull away but the better grinder won.

I’m ready for the beatdown by the Niners tomorrow over Jets.

Nix contract is not that sweet. Compare him to the money Deshaun Watson fleeced the Browns for! And they're stuck with him for another two seasons after this one, unless they want to eat whatever it is; $60-70m a year to release him. Far worse than Wilson's contract in Denver. Nix $10m is peanuts!

You want to look at big money?
  • Cousins and his millions for the Falcons turned into a gut punch loss.
  • I'm not going to write off Joe Burrow as fleecing the Bengals, but even with Higgins out, at $56m a year, and reportedly 100% healthy, I thought he would have played a hell of a lot better than he did against a team many said would be the worst in the league.
  • Big money Lawerence didn't play bad, but failed to seal that game when they were ahead. Very average day.
  • I forgot what the Giants paid Daniel Jones, but he was terrible. However, the Giants probably have the worst OL in the league.
  • Panthers improved their OL, spent big in FA, and were as bad as last year, Young showed zero improvement over last season. None. Granted, he's "only" making $47m over 4 years, but it's more than Nix.
  • Considering Aaron Rodgers missed all of last year, and won't be playing next year, he's basically making close to $100m for his work this season. Let's see if he earns it.
I looked it up. Bees didn't start week 1, but was impressive in his first game. I was just saying Payton and Nix tried a hell of a lot harder to win their game than Pierce/Getsy and Minshew did for the Raiders who were ultra conservative. Or that pathetic performance by Watson and the Browns offense. Agree all that matters is a W.

Nice win for Detroit over the Rams. Good game.

The night game was sloppy but entertaining. After the Thursday opener, I tricked myself into thinking that maybe teams wouldn't look like the stars sat out of preseason...yesterday body slammed that.

Det should just hand the ball to Montgomery 50 times a game! What a beast on the winning drive (~40 yards)!

LAR might have as bad of an O line as SEA.

All in all a good opening week though.

Only thing you can say after watching the Seahawks game, it wasn't Russell Wilson's fault!!
I went for a ride during Chargers game!! Unexpected pleasure!! Thought Lions and Rams was fun to watch!! I have added ,don't you know who I am and you gotta let me go because I am on my way to a game as additional excuses to tell cops!!!
We have a few casinos in town.. I am going to place a straight bet against Aaron Rodgers, just have not decided how much!! Yesterday had reverse football drinking!! Had 6 bottles on my bike ride!! Exceptionally hot!!and 1_can of Michelob Ultra!! for football!!!
I thought comments about loose helmets including 4 that fell off during Washington game. Overall I think kickoff rules are absolutely ridiculous. The kickers have gave a Tiger Woods factor to the game, thinking that they should either do free kick style or just put the tee on the other end zone line, have to put kickoff returns back in the game!! Kicking a drop shot is silly

With the exception of Rodgers, no doubt those are exuberant salaries for mediocre to below-average team performance.

I exclude Rodgers from your list because he's already a proven winner. In 19 seasons he's had 8 division titles, 11-10 playoff record, 4 NFC championship appearances & a SB MVP. He's a future HOF who will arguably go down as a top 12-15 all-time great. The issue with Rodgers is should he forego his comeback attempt & instead call it a career riding off into the sunset like the other great ones? I think that's the realistic thing to do. However, both he & the Jets believe he has something left in tank at 41. We'll see...this season will be his defining moment.

And Burrow showed some glimmer of hope taking the team to the SB in just his 2nd season. But this should be the minimum for a #1 OA. Now he's incurring major injuries - will this derail his career ending up as an injury bust?

My point is that paying top 1st round rookie QBs huge signing bonuses - i.e. "free money" - for absolutely doing nothing just based on their name & potential is ridiculous.

Take Trey Lance - $34m contract & a sweet $22.1m signing bonus before he ever stepped onto the field. This was based on his "potential" with some comparisons being made to Mahomes. Look at him now - he can't even win the backup job at Dallas & looks to be in long-term QB rehab! (he was inactive for opener. Lol). If Lance decides that he can't make it as a NFL QB & decides to quit, he walks away as a very rich man never having to work the rest of his life. Lol.

Agree completely on the whole "potential". Just look at the Raiders top draft pick last year. Tyree Wilson. What a physical specimen! Can he play? Hardly. He is so bad he barely gets on the field, and when he does he plays like he has cement shoes. He has one move: bull rush. Worked great against undersized offensive tackles in the NCAA. Now? He's easily controlled by other team's 2nd and 3rd string offensive line in the pre-season. Oh, and he's now hurt, again.

49ers looked very good on MNF, both sides of the ball, in the trenches, special teams, all of it. The only thing the Jets could do is put together one good drive early, and play enough deep zone to keep SF out of the end zone for the most part. Rogers at least looked okay, some nice throws. But the game was lopsided with SF having little problem moving the ball on the supposedly top tier Jets D.

So far, without question, the two best teams in the NFL are right where we left off last year. KC and SF. Everyone else is on the next floors down.

If his poor play wasn't bad enough for the Browns, it looks like Watson may be in trouble, again. This is an early story, and if I read the tea leaves correctly this will not allow the Browns to get out of that ridiculous contract they owe him, but it's still more bad news.

Looks like Watson has another court case to settle out of court............and to think the 49ers were talking about Watson before Purdy came on the scene........

I enjoy your perspective for all it's pragmatic properties, yes I to dream of a day when pro athletes sign for league minimum until they actually prove their " potential " instead, too many examples like Lance of substantial payouts for little to no performance. I think fans resent the enormous sums of money involved on semi educated speculation that doesn't pan out.
I think you are wearing rose colored Pete Rose glasses about Aaron Rodgers, history says he is a winner as you point, but like Pete Rose or Brett Farve, not knowing when to push away from the buffet table can certainly ruin or seriously damage your legacy. Genital photography, welfare funded sports complexes and illegal gambling, all are part of a players overall history, Rodgers has stayed too long at the party in my opinion.. I made $126,50 on 90 dollar bet against him, plan to bet against Aaron and Jets even that they are losers ,even on their by week.
So like you said winning playoff record..8 division titles yes..but there is more he keeps adding to his legacy that make him the anti hero..
Remember my references are set pretty low w my then beloved Chargers signing Ryan Leaf!!!not saying Rodgers is that low but I can only hope!!!

According to Mike Florio, Devon McCourty and a few other people, the Browns have to be digging into the deepest paperwork footnotes and addendums to find a way to get out of that ridiculous contract they gave Watson. McCourty flatly said this is how teams operate, period, it's a business and can be ruthless in this regard, like it or not. But Florio implied the way the contract is written it's very favorable to Watson. First the league would have to suspend him and take action, then the Browns would have to effectively prove this latest accusation wasn't part of what he previously admitted to, and since it took place in 2020, that may be hard to do.

The very ugly aspect about this is it potentially could be construed as not just sexual assault, but actual rape. The details she reported are alarming, difficult to read. Even if he's not convicted legally, he could be convicted of rape in a civil trial. I imagine a situation is possible where a sympathetic jury could reward her a significant amount of compensation considering his wealth. Again, that's a long way down the road, but the whole thing is just uglier than ugly.

Dan Orlovsky says the Browns need to just bench Watson, start Jameis Winston, and don't look back.

On some posts I’ve seen that if Watson is convicted criminally Browns can cut the contract but I haven’t looked at his details at all. It is and was an absolute ridiculous contract, civil legality aside. It’d be like if a team got AB right now and gave him a bunch of guaranteed money only to act surprised when he acts up. Now add in the egg on their face for how Mayfield is playing.

I'm not wearing rose colored glasses on Rodgers - I'm not & never have been a fan of his. I'm merely pointing out that he was a winner at GB & worth his big salary.

I agree that he's stayed too long at the party & should retire. The torn Achilles last year should have been enough of a warning that his best days are behind him.

What he's trying to accomplish is following the footsteps of two other great ones that had successful comebacks with different teams. Favre had some good success at Minnesota in 2009 (age 40) winning the division & winning one playoff game before he retired the following year. Montana had also good success with KC in 93 (38) winning division & playing in the AFC championship game before he also retired the following year. OTOH, Broadway Joe imploded in his comeback attempt with the LAR in 1977 (34). Hobbled by bad knees, chronic hamstring & calf injuries, he lasted all of a third of a season before his body gave out & he called it a career at the end of that season.

That's why I said this season is the defining moment for Rodgers. Are we looking at a Montana/Favre type comeback or a Broadway Joe debacle? Time will only tell.

Brady 2020 comeback on a new team after a poor-okay 2019 and poor-good 2018 already?

But I agree, not Rodgers fault he’s making a lot of money. Can’t hate a man for getting his paycheck, no matter how he acts.

If this continues expect the paper bags to come out again at the Browns but the Browns are still without Chubb and were missing starting O line players in their last game. They should have kept Flacco as he wasn't costing them much. I suppose next draft they will have a good QB in mind. Hard to see how this season is going to go for them but their defense usually keeps them in games. Aiyuk dodged a bullet and had the good sense to turn down the Browns trade offer even if the money was better than he is currently getting. Chubb may never be the same. They have a good coach but are desperate to get better QB play. They made the playoffs last year mainly thanks to the defense and Flacco but if they miss the playoffs and Watson has a mediocre season expect heads to roll and they could still be stuck with Watson and even more controversy from his past.

Lance was a project too far for the 49ers after playing one year in college. Purdy started 48 college games. They were also talking about drafting Mac Jones who probably would have done better under Shanahan, but after seeing Purdy get better and better in a short time period, the writing was on the wall for Lance. Even more mind boggling is why the Cowboys gave up a 4th round pick to trade for Lance ? The 49ers were in SB mode and had no time or inclination to spend on developing Lance and they obviously saw enough after a few seasons with little improvement. Once they opted for Purdy and let Jimmy walk it was time to put the Lance experience behind them.
