With the exception of Rodgers, no doubt those are exuberant salaries for mediocre to below-average team performance.
I exclude Rodgers from your list because he's already a proven winner. In 19 seasons he's had 8 division titles, 11-10 playoff record, 4 NFC championship appearances & a SB MVP. He's a future HOF who will arguably go down as a top 12-15 all-time great. The issue with Rodgers is should he forego his comeback attempt & instead call it a career riding off into the sunset like the other great ones? I think that's the
realistic thing to do. However, both he & the Jets believe he has something left in tank at 41. We'll see...this season will be his defining moment.
And Burrow showed some glimmer of hope taking the team to the SB in just his 2nd season. But this should be the minimum for a #1 OA. Now he's incurring major injuries - will this derail his career ending up as an injury bust?
My point is that paying top 1st round rookie QBs huge signing bonuses - i.e. "free money" - for absolutely doing nothing just based on their name &
potential is ridiculous.
Take
Trey Lance - $34m contract & a sweet
$22.1m signing bonus before he ever stepped onto the field. This was based on his "potential" with some comparisons being made to
Mahomes. Look at him now - he can't even win the backup job at Dallas & looks to be in long-term QB rehab! (he was inactive for opener. Lol). If Lance decides that he can't make it as a NFL QB & decides to quit, he walks away as a very rich man never having to work the rest of his life. Lol.
The Cowboys have confirmed the inevitable with their quarterback room.
