If the Raiders somehow get Ben Johnson, I think there's a better chance he tries to bring Hendon Hooker over with him. Hooker was a huge talent in college when he tore his ACL at the worst time, missed the end of his college season, couldn't perform at the Combine or Pro Day, fell to Detroit in the draft, and has just sat behind Goff, learning, from...Ben Johnson.
Hooker was projected as a 1st rounder before he tore his ACL in the last game of the season. He's was a dual-threat RPO guy with comparisons made to Hurts. He probably deserves a chance to compete for a starting job somewhere.

Prime baby!

Get Deion in there. Send Dak to the Browns for their draft pick, then draft Shedeur! Win-win-win for the Cowboys! Yee-haw!
Interestingly, talks still continue with Prime & Jerry. Furthermore, CU is offering a lucrative contract extension from his current 5 yr/$29.5m deal that's sitting on the table waiting for him to sign. Let the drama continue:

And more drama. Lol

Picture this: Prime is hired as the Cowboys coach. Shedeur is drafted by the Giants. When the two teams meet, does Deion send the house after Shedeur on passing downs? And if Deion doesn't blitz him, will he get a lecture from Jerry telling him to stop protecting his son at the Cowboys expense?

Shedeur alluded to saying he would probably participate. But another rumor said he was likely to just get measured, and give some interviews. Apparently Cam Ward is going to participate. The Titans said more than once they love Ward. But they the also said similar about Sanders. I'll stand by what I say that Deion won't let Shedeur be drafted, or play for, the Browns. Hard to blame him: Tim Couch, Deshone Kizer, Kevin Hogan, Brandon Weedon, Johnny Manziel, Brady Quinn, Baker Mayfield... It's just a Sarlacc pit for quarterbacks, both talented, and not.

When I first read that I thought it meant he wasn't going to attend a scouting combine, which would be a red flag in my mind.

But now I see he just isn't going to attend the draft day ceremonies. I don't blame him for that at all.
NFL draft day is almost as bad as the Emmy's or Oscars, maybe even worse. In this age of modern communications there is no need at all for athletes or agents being at these things.

I wouldn't call that drama at all. Unless you're ESPN paying big bucks to carry the draft on TV.

The draft has become a big deal for ESPN as well as the city that hosts it. It's one of the highest rated sporting events of the spring matching close with the ratings of the NBA & Stanley Cup finals.

Last year Detroit hosted with over 700,000 attending over the 3 day period and a record setting 275,000 attending day one of the 1st round selections. According to the Detroit commerce dept, the draft generated more than $160m in economic impact. It's become like a "Woodstock" event with Green Bay hosting this year.

It's always been tradition for all the 1st rd selections to be there in person. Their name is called, they're greeted with the customary handshake by the commissioner & their Jersey and # of the team that drafted them is displayed. I think it's pretty cool & not all about the QBs. Some of the top non-QB 1st rounders will all be there like Jeanty, Warren, Carter, McMillan, etc.

I don't think that scenario would ever happen. If Prime is hired as an NFL HC, he's going to want his son with him. He's coached him through PeeWee, middle-school, HS & two college programs - so why stop now?

I'm going to speculate here: I think one of the hang ups with the Dallas job may be about getting his son there. That would require some major trade deals & the dumping of Prescott with the cap hit & all. Jones may not want to go there. And if Prime wasn't seriously interested in that job then he would have already signed the lucrative contract extension offered by CU sitting on his office desk for over a week now (CU must be getting really nervous. Lol).

If the Dallas gig doesn't happen & he stays at CU, then this would be the first time he doesn't coach his son. But in that event, like you alluded to, Prime will make sure his son goes to a team that he feels is the best fit for him.

I have enjoyed Chucky's channel when I watched. He does know football, and is entertaining. Some weeks he was spot on with some predictions, with impressive precision. Other times way off. Just like here. In the college videos he admitted he hadn't watched enough of it closely this year, and didn't like the way the bracket and byes were done (no one did, all four teams with a bye lost!). So I cut him some slack there.

The ultimate helicopter parent to a millennial child.

Jerry has got to find a way to get Dak to the Browns for their pick, so they can draft Shedeur. This would require him to eat a huge amount of money, maybe eat some other bad contracts in the trade. But he could do it, knowing he'll have Shedeur under a modest rookie deal for a few years. And Jimmy Haslem and the Browns have a history of being really gullible, and making the worst deals.

Speaking of...there was a very biting article in The Athletic this morning about how difficult of a time the Browns had coaching Watson, and how negative of an environment it created on the whole team.

That, I am certain of. And on this front I honestly can't blame Deion, to a degree. Like I said, I don't see any way he lets Shedeur go to the Browns, who are sitting at the #2 draft pick, and have been coy if they are thinking they'll take a QB. I think Deion would be okay with Shedeur going to the Titans at #1 overall, and even more okay with him going to the Giants at #3. But I think he'll be making direct phone calls to everyone to let Cleveland know there's no way his son is playing for them. If Deion gets the Cowboys job, and they trade Dak to Cleveland, then Deion will say there's no way Shedeur will play for Tennessee, and the Titans will just take Cam Ward (unless he's just terrible at his Pro Day, unlikely), letting Shedeur fall to the Cowboys.

I know that sounds almost silly, but if you think about it, it's a very Dallas thing to do, and a Browns thing to do. It's really not that unbelievable, if a little outlandish. I also think Deion could do okay in Dallas as a HC, and would know exactly how to work under, and talk with Jerry. I'm not sure how many teams his schtick would work on, but it would probably work in Dallas. And he'd attract some good assistants one would think. I think it's better than Shedeur goes to a team with a quarterback whisperer OC or QB coach than keep following his father. And maybe even sits a while, or if he starts and struggles, sits a bit. But if he goes in the top 3 overall, that won't happen. He'll be expected to start week 1 next year.

My previous post was a late night word salad. I heard Shedeur say he would be at the Combine, and would participate. I'm not sure if he will throw or do drills. But he seemed to understand the importance of being there, to let teams talk to him, see him in person.

The draft is more of a show, a spectacle. Ridiculously over hyped. And I wish the first three rounds were on day 1, with a one hour break between round 1, and rounds 2&3. I think for some players it's cool to be seen there, maybe if looking for sponsorship money? But Shedeur has enough personality that he'll get some of that anyway.

I would agree with this. Though he's considered by many as a Lamar 2.0, his maturity, poise & leadership is what really impressed me. Though they'll probably lose to the Lions, the impact he's had on the Commanders completely turning the team around from an embarrassing 4-13 season in 2023 to winners at 12-5 & a playoff win this year is outstanding!

The new GM Adam Peters also has done a good job in a small period of time considering where the team was before the ownership change and rebuild. He was highly regarded at the 49ers and seen as the probable next GM.

I believe Borgonzi was interviewed by a couple teams, so this is really good catch for Tennessee.

Weather in KC will be clear though cold. Sometimes, weather can equalize teams a little bit, but we saw none of that last year when Miami froze against KC. I think some Chiefs players were saying they knew they would win the game when they watched the Dolphins try to warm up. I'll still take KC in the game, maybe by double digits. I won't be watching it, so enjoy!

Detroit and Washington in the dome. Or it would be even colder, and breezy. In some very good news for Detroit, David Montgomery participated in full practice all week. There are several players still out for the Lions it's hard to get info on, though it appears both Aiden Hutchinson and Carlton Davis will likely return in time for the Super Bowl, if the Lions make it that far.

The most sketchy weather will be in Philly, as it's supposed to be about freezing, with almost certain snow. This really should benefit the Eagles, with both Barkley, and their D.

Buffalo and Baltimore will be quite cold, about 12 degrees, maybe some light snow, but I think both teams should be okay in it. Maybe a slight edge to Buffalo, who often practices outside.

Sounds like Mixon will play for the Texans. If there is going to be an upset I think it will be that game. Sooner or later Kansas have to have a bad day and some of their players have been out for quite a while, being rested in the final round of the regular season. Chiefs going out early would be great for the playoffs.

Bills or Ravens, neither would be an upset although the Ravens won convincingly a few months ago. Tipping the Bills. Can't see Washington beating the Lions even if the Lions defense isn't what it was. The Lions still manage to get turnovers and their offense is humming. A Rams win wouldn't surprise me as their defense is looking good but I still think the Eagles can get pressure on Stafford and Hurts will have to have a tidy game. Might be a close one. Also Stafford has a poor record in bad weather games.

I'm going on a bike ride mid-day today, and yes, am sick of the Chiefs. And I'm pretty sure they will win. Rust or no rust. Mixon or no Mixon.

I looked that game up again, and watched the highlights. For the Bills on D, Milano and Bernard, their two best linebackers, were both out (like most teams, the Bills play 2 LBs on most downs, not 3 like the old days). Taron Johnson, arguably their best DB, was out. CB Kalir Elam also didn't practice all week leading up to that game. So the Bills D was Missing some real key pieces. Next is on offense they didn't have Cooper. This was also when Allen was arguably still getting used to his receivers to a degree. Also, they were just figuring out to get Cook into their system. Now? In the last 7 games, he's run for over 100 yards four of those games. This week the Bills listed a lot of people on their injury report, but nearly everyone participated in full practice. So this may be the most healthy Bills team to be in the playoffs since the Josh Allen era started.

Week 4 was a long time ago.

Having wrote all that, outside of Flowers, the Ravens are quite healthy. I don't care who the Bills have back on defense, I still think the Ravens run game is going to be hard to stop, and Henry can wear any team down - he ran for 186 yards against a tough Steeler defense. Even in the bad weather, I think both teams will move the ball, and both teams could score 30 points.

The team that wins this game has a real chance to go into KC and upend the Chiefs. The Bills have played them better in recent years than the Ravens have, but this also seems like a new year for Lamar, and an offense that doesn't just expect him to make magic. We'll see this weekend if it is.

This polar vortex is starting to look like it could play a major factor in these games now. For Houston, it'll be the 3rd coldest game the team has ever played in. Stroud is 0-2 & struggled in games where the temperature was below freezing. Conversely, Mahomes is 9-1 in his last 10 starts where the temperature was below freezing. I saw an interview with Kelce the other day where he said the team places pride in playing in extreme cold temps at Arrowhead with everyone motivated to play hard in those conditions giving them what he feels is a big home field advantage. I don't think Houston can win this game (it's a nice thought). In these very cold temps, the Chiefs will hit you with it's ground game - Pacheco ran real well in the polar vortex game against Miami last year. And Mahomes' running threat is another factor Houston will have to contend with. Maybe it'll be close in the 1st half especially if KC looks a little rusty from the long layoff, but I think in the end, it's all KC.

Weather will be factor in Buffalo with single digit wind chills - which isn't unusual for this time of year there. Lol. But Baltimore can churn out it's potent ground game with Henry & Jackson. The Bills can counter with Cook & Allen (it's funny how Cook is a Florida guy but he seems to like playing in the cold. Lol). This one is too close to call - turnovers especially fumbles could be the deciding factor. But like Alpe alluded to, the Bills play very well in cold weather at Highmark.

The Rams & Eagles game is looking like a disaster. Gusty winds, cold temps & steady snowfall starting at kickoff & continuing throughout the game is forecasted. Stafford & the boys are going to have trouble throwing in those kind of conditions. Philly will just hammer them with Barkley & Hurts. Footing shouldn't be a problem with the larger cleats they're allowed to wear in conditions like this. But Rams don't have a good ground game & Stafford isn't a running QB.

Has anyone heard what the weather is going to be like in Detroit with the polar vortex also hitting them? Oh...wait a second...they play in the friendly confines of domed Ford Field where it will be a comfy 68 degrees & no wind! LOL

Shadow, I got here first so I'll save you a few typing strokes: There shouldn't have been a flag on PM's scramble (he's a runner, and it there was no illegal contact). The other one, while 'fluffy', I saw called a dozen times like that this season.
