I don't think the Mayfield one is correct. Just one example I know off the top of my head is Brady in 07 Super Bowl and the second to last play throwing from their own 13 to the opponent 20, so 67 yards and the defender got a hand on it otherwise Moss would have caught it at the 19 or 18 and he threw it from the right side of the numbers to the left so had more air yards. I'm sure Mahomes, Rodgers, Allen, and Stafford can throw a little further.

Now they're saying Mayfield's pass was about 70 yards. From one angle, it seems to hit the ground in the middle of the EZ, but from another, it landed near the back. That DB hit the goal post chasing it, if the ball was going to drop 5 yards short of the back, you wouldn't think he would do that.

I took a look at the SB video. Brady actually threw from his own ten, but the ball was knocked down just short of the 25, so it looks like 63-64 yards, maybe 65. Good catch (for you, not Moss, LOL). You're right about the slant, too. Remarkable throw when you consider he was presumably putting everything he had on it, and it was right on target. Whereas Mayfield overthrew his target.

The formula I used clearly doesn't apply to baseballs, or we would have outfielders throwing more than 500 feet, and batters hitting 700 foot HR. Air resistance must be a significant factor there.

Considering they were measuring the kicks and breaking them down accurately for distance you'd think they could do the same with throwing the ball.

Even more so being end of a game he got beat up in, when he had a big throw to Moss on the first down and he dropped it than was drilled the 2nd down. I think if you took Brady's throwing motion from him getting power from his whole body and combined with like Mahomes or Rodgers you'd get into the 80 yards or close. Heck even like Vick with him just flicking the wrist. Or imagine a big armed quarterback in Mile High with the winds assistance, they could throw it from one red zone to the other. That kind of arm with a speedster like Tyreek would be insane.

Some of the most interesting games this week should be Patriots and Dolphins, Saints and Chiefs and Washington and Seattle. I think the Dolphins can win, Brees is supposed to be back already for the Saints ! I think the Chiefs will win though, and Washington's defense will test the Hawks. With Haskins at QB the offense could be a problem though. Turnovers will be critical as they were in the 49ers game with Washington. Bears and Vikings should also be a good match up. Cowboys need a win against the 49ers to stay in contention and they need Washington to lose. The Cardinals and Eagles should also be a good battle between the two QBs.

I'm hoping Brees tries and loses, for Seattle's benefit. Also hoping Washington does test the Seahawks who should have Penny, Carson, Hyde and at least one other. Not sure if they have enough TE's to block so it'll be interesting. Would like to watch Dolphins, too. Pivotal week for everyone.

I too am interested to see how the Bills will do in the playoffs. I still think the Chiefs are the favorites to make the SB, but after that it’s the Bills, IMO. The Steelers haven’t looked great the last two or three games. And then it’s likely the Titans and whoever gets in from the north (Browns or Ravens). Knowing the Browns they could lose their final games and completely throw away a 9-3 start. On the other side, the Ravens could really get hot and be peaking for the playoffs.

The nfc has the Packers, Saints, Seahawks/Rams and even a Washington team that is looking dangerous. Heck, even the Giants are looking ok now, but DC is the favorite to win that division. Wouldn’t be shocked if they beat the Seahawks today. That field is so sketchy though. So many awful injuries over the years. Here’s hoping everyone escapes unscathed.

Hawks got the win as did the Cardinals, Bucs got themselves out of early trouble and the Rams lost to the Jets ! Story of the Rams season, they might have a good win record but I just don't see them going far in the playoffs, too inconsistent. Vikings look done, Ravens hanging in there, 49ers turnover machine keeps rolling along, Cowboys hanging on with the Eagles and Washington losing, a Giants loss would also help the Cowboys. Patriots miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Good win for the Titans, Henry on track to make the 2000 yards in a season club.

Looks like almost everything broke Seattle's way, this week. O-line was solid and running game looked pretty good. Josh Gordon has been impressive in practice and joins up this week, too.
Hawks defense played well for 3.25 quarters of the game. It's good that they saved their best for last. Still getting the feeling that the offensive coordinators are tinkering a bit to have newer-look schemes for the playoffs. It fits their pattern and they'll need their best to get by LA, GB.

While Seahawks did get the win, it was ugly, and inconsistent play by them. In the first half of the season and years past, whenever Russ had the ball in his hands at the end of a game I had confidence he could pull out a win. I have not had that same level of confidence in him lately. I noted yesterday that he sometimes gets rid of the ball before he's got his feet set. Part of that is caused by inconsistent pass blocking, but part is also due to him not seeing receivers open up soon enough. Sometimes he's just not seeing wide open receivers at all. It was nice having Carson, Hyde, Penny all playing, and the run blocking was pretty good, sometimes just dominant, even on the right side where started Shell is out (backup Oh-BWAY-hee played well enough). Overall, OL play is much improved, but they do have weaknesses. The Giants really exposed LG Iupati by making him block in space vs linebackers at the 2nd level - Iupati whiffed every time, and Giants LBs made the tackles every time. I thought the Hawks OL did pretty well vs 4 former 1st round draft picks on the WASH DL.

Defensively, Seattle is playing much better up front with the addition of Dunlop (who has now helped seal two of Seattle's recent wins by TIMELY game ending sacks), and DT Damon 'Snacks' Harrison (a 350 pounder who can't be moved off the line even when doubled, and still makes tackles or piles things up). Having Snacks in the rotation really has helped the run defense, so now Seattle does not have nearly as many 2nd or 3rd and short situation, and they are getting off the field. Jamaal Adams continues to make big plays, also helping the defense get off the field. The secondary can be iffy, and their scheme can be iffy. Then KJ Wright is probably making more big plays at his new SAM LB position than he did at the WIL, where he was becoming a step too slow in coverage. Overall, defense over the past 4 weeks has really improved (from worst in NFL history over the 1st 8 or so games).

Next week vs the Rams: big game for both teams obviously. But TE Greg Olsen was cleared to return to practice last Wednesday, and TE rookie Colby Parkinson from Stanford played vs the WFT. I think TE wise, Seattle is fine. A possible huge factor could be the return of Josh Gordon, who should be clear to play the final two regular season games for Seattle. Other than a bad leg injury to backup-backup RB DJ Dallas I think Seattle got out of that WFT game without too many injuries. But, Jeez, can Seattle play an entire 60 minutes???

As for the WFT, it may have been a different outcome if Alex Smith had played. I'm really happy to see their former Seattle RB JD McKissic doing so well. Dallas Cowboy fans are happy with the game result though.

I'm glad for the Jets they finally got a win. And Seattle needed the help.

Have to say I'm not too convinced by any of the NFC teams to go on a SB run. Yes Kansas are not blowing out teams like they were last year but I get the feeling this season that the winner of the AFC will take the SB. Bills/Chiefs AFC game might be nice but I have also had a feeling about the Titans all season but they have to get their defense sorted. The Browns are playing well but I don't see them winning the SB.Remains to be seen if the Steelers are going to be the same team in the playoffs. Alex Smith's injury was an untimely blow for Washington, Haskins might improve eventually but he's no Smith.

Struggling to get my head around the Rams loss ! Seahawks meeting the Rams at the right time I think. That loss will be a big blow even if the Rams generally give Seattle a hard time but they have been a weekly proposition all season with their form. In that way Seattle and the Rams have been similar but they are also playing in a tough division. Seattle must be happy with Carlos Hyde's form.

Not surprised that the Cowboys won as the 49ers just continue to give games away. Shanahan will be g;lad to see the end of the season. I still have my doubts that the 49ers will try to draft a QB as some are saying even though their draft position has improved. My guess is that they strengthen the secondary and o line and bring Jimmy back for one more season. Trouble is he misses so many games and the results are there to see. Oddly Mullens played better in his first season. Goff is trying the patience of McVay I think, he just can't string together good games and it's hurting the Rams. Another QB conversation might be happening in the off season ! But the Rams are stuck with him for the moment as inconsistent as he is. Where's the Goff from 2018 ? Rumours about Wentz and Dak to the 49ers are hard to believe. Don't think anyone will trade for Wentz at the moment even as a replacement for Rivers as some are predicting. Less certainty about Dak maybe. Stafford has also been linked to the 49ers. Last season Jimmy had to hear the rumours about Brady now it seems the possible list is growing ! 49ers are going to have enough problems re-signing Trent Williams and Fred Warner for the money they deserve while trying to retain some of the huge list of their players about to hit free agency. which is why I think they will be careful with the QB choice especially a rookie while their window is still open. They are one of the teams that have already been through a rebuild but they have some important decisions to make in the off season. Patriots and Falcons both look as though they will be rebuilding. They are also teams that need a QB for the future. Jets might have blown their chances at getting Lawrence.

Here's to them playing an entire game and the injuries settling down. Must be difficult to call plays let alone respond to defensive pressure with revolving O-line support. Seattle is definitely not alone in that challenge which is why Moving Target's take on the AFC SB advantage is valid. At this point in time.
Green Bay vs KC is the best guess now IMO.

Weeelllllll.....not everything broke Seattle's way. Josh Gordon made it to practice, more or less and then banned by NFL for substance abuse test failure. Today. Feel for the guy if he waited that long and then couldn't wait.

DH barely made the physical transition to the NFL, but hadn't made the mental transition. By all accounts, part of the mental game was due to laziness, that he might have gotten on top of, but now he shows that he doesn't care about his team mates so...

Thought his response on draft night after being picked later than Daniel Jones was a bit petulant and childish. As it turns out, so far Jones is the better player.........go figure !
