Only slightly smaller than Bryce Young. :innocent:

Need an ESPN+ subscription to see that QB article.

Speaking of Drew Lock, he's playing as I type this. Looks as good as he ever did in Denver. Granted, this is early preseason, but as I said before, he's one guy that seemed to have a lot of talent and the wheels fell off in Denver. But he's only 26. Maybe sitting behind Geno, learning under Pete, is the best thing that could have happened to him?
Weird. I could view the article and I don't have any type of ESPN subscription...........

Good point on Lock & since you brought him up, it's a mystery as to why he didn't pan out given all the pre-draft hype surrounding him. Recall when Elway drafted him, he made the comment that Lock looked & played a lot like he did. Elway had  never made a remark like that about any other QB that he ever drafted or signed.

Lock certainly has the physical skills having Mahomes type size & arm strength. His skillset at the combine looked really good. And he was sensational at Missouri where he threw for a school record 12,000 yds & 99 TDs against SEC competition (All-SEC in 2017).

Where this seemed to all unravel for Lock was his 2nd yr in the league where he was named the starter for 2020. He started 13 games (missed 3 due to injury) & performed so poorly it wasn't even funny.
Probably few forum folks watched Seattle/Minnesota last night but Lock looked good and had reasonable line support. It is preseason and doesn't mean much but he made few mistakes.
Couldn't say the same for the Vikings. Their defense blew up in the 4th quarter.

Incredible to see the Seattle fan support and general mood of the team, too.

Jimmy G the best QB on the field versus the 49ers in two days of joint practice............see what the game brings on Sunday although Purdy is expected to sit it out and Hoyer will play more than Jimmy you would think plus the Raiders rookie might get some time. Lance is starting for the 49ers and looks to have the edge for the 2 QB at the moment for the 49ers, over Darnold.

I will be surprised if JG10 plays more than a couple series for the Raiders. He may not even play at all. I expect Hoyer, and O'Connell to take most all of the snaps. 4th string Chase Garbers, who looked good in the pre-season last year, may get snaps.

Russell Wilson had maybe 2 good throws last night against Arizona. The rest of the time he looked almost exactly like he did last season. Not much mobility, batted passes, some hesitance and shaky throws. I honestly don't know what magic Sean Payton can do with him. Bad/good for Denver is that while Jarett Stidham didn't look very good, Ben DiNucci, who was superb in the XFL, looked good. Rookie Clayton Tune had one bad pass, but otherwise looked comfortable for Arizona and made some good decisions. If you only watch one game replay, or just highlights, make it this one.

Detroit vs. NYG was also pretty good. Only one game, but Detroit looked like a different team from last year. So-so offense, but a stout, deep defense. Just one preseason game, so hard to tell if this is an illusion, or what?

Davis Love looked good, but Sean Clifford looked like Brett Favre for Green Bay. He had two picks (one his fault, the other iffy), but he was slinging it, and with confidence. Poor Alex McGough, just two series, no passes, one fumble.

Seeing both Tune and Clifford made me think about Brock Purdy. How? Both of these guys were 4-year starters in the NCAA, and threw a LOT of passes, over 1,350 each. The NFL scouts (and some coaches) have been drunk on "raw talent" for too long I think. I'm not saying Tune or Clifford will lead their teams to the Super Bowl, but both looked NFL ready. Curious how Steston Bennett plays (lots of snaps) vs. Bryce Young (about half that) play this preseason.

Good news for the Bengals is Trevor Simeon didn't get injured.

I didn't see the Denver game but the news on Wilson didn't sound good performance wise. I thought Rodgers didn't look so good last season either but the Jets had little hesitation in signing him, but after their recent QB history it's understandable. Bengals dodged a bullet with Burrow's injury. With all of the QB movement it will be interesting to see how the new QBs go with their new teams , if Purdy and Geno can play at the same level and if Wilson can markedly improve. With all of the money Denver has spent loading up their roster and on the QB it will be a disaster if they have another mediocre season. No one is talking about the Rams two years after a SB win but they seem to think they can get back on track. I'd be surprised, their roster is nothing special and they lost a lot of players on defense. Detroit is one of the teams tipped to improve by many people. Are the Bills going to step up or are they going to be another one of those teams that always hang around in the playoffs without getting to the SB but that's not so easy in the AFC at the moment. I didn't think Allen finished off the season well last year.

It was always the plan to have Purdy missing every third practice. He had a bad day today but some receiver drops as well. Lance has reportedly changed his throwing motion which used to be a bit of a wind up and was working with a QB coach as well as Mahomes coach for a while. So far it seems they are happy with Purdy and he is ahead of schedule and had no arm pain according to the GM and coach and Purdy himself. I think he's in the same category as Geno at Seattle. Was the one season a one off or can it be regular ? I worry about the O line depth, they have shored up the defense somewhat after losing some nice back up pieces to free agency like Omenihu, Willis and others but they need Kinlaw and Drake Jackson to step up. Bosa contract still not finalized...........Purdy not practicing in the joint practice with the Raiders later in the week but will have to play in the preseason games at least. Don't think the QB situation will look any clearer until those preseason games especially with Lance and Darnold. Allen has supposed to be doing well as the 4th QB option as well. Some people think that he could be the third option with Lance or Darnold getting moved but that would surprise me and the 49ers have already said they don't envisage any QB trades at least in the short term.
Say what?...the Niners don't envision  any QB trades? Lol. Can you imagine if Purdy is named the starter & the Niners go into the season with two (2) backups that were the #3 overall picks in their respected drafts. Two #3 overalls sitting on the bench behind a 2nd yr guy who was the last player drafted in his class! (i.e. Mr Irrelevant ).

How could Lance & Darnold even look at themselves in the mirror sitting the bench as #3 overall drafted franchise QBs that were supposed to lead the teams that drafted them to the promised land.

What kind of a clown show is Lynch & Shanahan running over there with this QB situation? Lance needs to start - with the Niners or somewhere else. He needs game experience & development to see if he's a franchise QB worthy of that high pick. Darnold is probably finished as a starter & looks to be bust after not cutting it at either NYJ nor Carolina. So, maybe the best you can get out of Darnold is a journeyman backup role as a #3 overall pick (unless some team struggling at QB wants to take a chance & give him one more shot as a starter).

If Purdy is named the starter and neither Lance & Darnold aren't jettisoned - is Shanahan going to tell the media that these two can sit the season & learn under Purdy. Lol.

Yep the QB situation there has been weird for a while now, exacerbated by the constant injuries to Jimmy. I thought there was no chance they would sign Cousins next season but if Purdy has an off season it's probably inevitable. The best QB on the field yesterday was the Raiders rookie. Lance looked like he has improved little and Darnold wasn't asked to do much against back ups. The 49ers back up O line was terrible. Allen will probably get poached off the practice squad and Lance has little trade value at the moment. It's Purdy or no one by the looks of it for this season unless Darnold does something out of character and he will only start if Purdy is bad or gets injured again. Lance still seems to be having problems reading defenses and was very hesitant against back ups..................guess they could sign Wentz as another back up to the back up...................there was some talk of Lance to the Buccs............already talk of Mayfield struggling.

If any of you saw the SF-LV game you saw how right you are. It quickly became apparent why both Shanahan and Lynch have been saying for months that Purdy is their guy. Lance looked lost, and the stat line is a lie. His TD throw should have been an int, he threw another pass directly to a Raider DB who was so shocked he dropped it. While the Raider interior pass rush looked surprisingly good from bottom of the class draft picks and unsigned and FA castoffs, Lance couldn't even get set or let go of the ball when he did have time. And that mobility? The athleticism? A mirage. He's starting to look like a bust, headed to the XFL in 2024. People making the excuse he was playing with back-ups ignore that the Raiders barely played any defensive starters at all either, and the Raider defense was one of the worst in the NFL last year. But Nomad nailed the problem. In order for him to improve, he needs to play. But after this game any coach trying to win games would have him 3rd on a depth chart. Sam Darnold looked slightly better, meaning he looked as mediocre as he always has. So there they will be, two highly coveted draft picks, one they gave up 3 first round picks for, sitting behind Mr. Irrelevant. And Shanahan is supposed to be this QB genius.

Hard to tell how bad the 49er backups are, but they made Aiden O'Connell look like Tom Brady 2.0. The opposite of Lance or Darnold. He had the very best game out of every rookie QB this week. He looked comfortable, made good quick decisions, and had zip on the ball, playing nearly mistake free. He outplayed Young, Stroud, Richardson, Levis, Tune, Haener, Bennett (who did good for the Rams).

Granted, this is the preseason, wins mean nothing. But SF has to be walking away thinking they must get Purdy to 100%, and keep him healthy, and feeling painful about, and for, Lance. And worried about depth on their defense. While the Raiders could not have possibly played better or had a better game.

Yes no doubt it was an ugly performance all round from the 49ers, not only Lance but at the presser Shanahan didn't seem concerned at all. Seems he believes in the starters to get it done and that most of those players who played in the Raiders game, won't see the field in the regular season thankfully. Shanahan actually said he gets more out of the joint practices than the preseason games !

I've barely watched pre season (mostly highlights), but I think that you are correct, O'Connell and Bennett looked better than the other rookie QBs.

I like that the Colts already announced that Richardson will be QB1. Its good for everyone mentally (except for Minshew I guess), and now moving forward the O is being built around him.

Elliott and Cook signed, but not for what they are used to making.

Cook looking like he’s trying to ring chase but just might find out Rodgers can Rodgers like Cousins can Cousins. I think it’d be hard for the Jets to pass Bills and Dolphins unless something bad happens to either of the two teams. Jets could be looking at an 1-5 start to the season.
Yeah the Jets will be interesting but the AFC hasn't got any easier. The Lions will be interesting as well. I still think the NFC will come down to the same four teams as last season. Maybe one of those teams might slip backwards. Seattle should make the playoffs again. Not sold on the Rams or GB.

I take it their only win would be against Denver? Lol (BUF/DAL/NE/KC/DEN/PHI).

A 1-5 start to the season would be disastrous. The organization has already given a no-confidence vote on Wilson by signing Rodgers. Rodgers wasn't brought in for a rebuilding process but to win immediately and content for the SB...this year. A 1-5 start against some of the top teams in the league would show that this team is no where near the level they need to be to contend for a SB - even with Rodgers at the helm.

And the decision to keep Wilson instead of trading him is confusing & similar to the mess with SF & Lance. Is the organization declaring that Wilson is a bust already? This is the #2 overall pick in the 2021 draft- only behind Lawrence. Sure he was terrible both in his rookie season & last year - and also missed significant time last season due to injuries. But he needs to play & gain game experience - not sit the bench. Time will tell whether he's a bust or not but he needs to play now.

Some of these teams are starting to look like a clown show drafting franchise QBs with the first 2 & 3 picks ultimately having them sit the bench as backups. Lol

Yes a win over the Broncos, personally I think they go 2-4 and either win against Pats or Cowboys. I thing we’re going to see Rodgers throwing his arms up a lot this season.

The only way the 49ers will be able to move Lance is by eating some of his salary as well as offering a late round draft pick. After costing two first round picks it's already a financial write off situation. Darnold would be a little easier to trade. It seems the Jets haven't totally given up on Wilson and Rodgers might only play two more seasons so they are going to have future QB headaches anyway when Rodgers leaves.

I think the real problem the Jets have is that they really don't have that many weapons on offense. Garrett Wilson had a great rookie year, but I fear both Lazard and Cobb are not going to deliver that much. They are on the team because Rodgers wanted them. Lazard is only 27, but Cobb seemed to be at the end of his career last year. Cook is maybe getting long in the tooth as well. But the Jets didn't have a great OL last year for starters, and just adding the aging Rodgers won't change that. In my (way too early) precitor I had the Jets going 10-7. I'm going to stick to that. If the do start 1-5 that would indeed be a huge disaster.

I think Zach Wilson's problem is that when they played him last year, his confidence looked shot. As soon as there was any pass rush, or a bad throw, he got happy feet and made increasing mistakes. I honestly doubt he'll ever really make it as a starter in the NFL, no matter how much he plays.

Good call by Indy to start Richardson.

Everyone says the same NFC teams will prevail, but I'm not honestly sold on the Eagles being the same team. I think they are going to struggle at times. They lost a lot of key players, and both coordinators. This doesn't mean I think they will fall to the cellar like a lot of SB hangover teams do. I just don't see them being the powerhouse they were last year.

I've been trying to follow that Michael Oher thing and I think there's a lot more to the story than meets the eye. Maybe not ugly, but messy, and involving people we don't know about.
