KC is saying Kelce will probably play. I say, what for?!

The problem with Denver "tanking for Caleb" is that Denver owes Russell Wilson $41m next year, and $45 in 2025. The whopper is this though, if they cut him at any point, the cap hits and dead money are astronomical:

After 2023 season: $22m cap hit, $107m dead money (!!!)
After 2024: $33m cap hit, $85m dead money!
After 2025: $55m cap hit, $45m dead money!

There is a potential out in 2026, after paying him $131m, and a $31m cap hit!
His contract continues after that, through 2028.

Keep in mind, this is a guy, who despite "improving" over last year, has numbers safely sandwiched in the middle, of the league in stats. His passer rating isn't bad, because he's throwing a lot of short tosses. And his TD/INT ratio is better than last year, but he's not throwing well deep, much of his numbers are in blowouts and garbage time, and his QBR is somewhere around Sam Howell, Desmond Riddler. You could say he's better than Daniel Jones and Zach Wilson, but not as good as Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield. You get the idea.

So, you're in the room with Greg Penner, George Paton, and Sean Payton. They turn to you, "what do you suggest?"

Finally beat the Chiefs in your close games.

Finally beat the Chiefs in your close games.
And so far the defense is holding up their end of the bargain against the Chiefs, offense sputtering unfortunately for them.

Edit: Payton has to be trolling calling a TO on fourth and 12 while the chiefs have 3 TOs with 20 seconds left in the half.

Dull game for the most part. Vintage Russell Wilson*.

(*Vintage 2022 that is).
But only got beat by 11 points so a small win. Chiefs hoping Kelce’s ankle isn’t injured more. On another topic I didn’t even know Swift was at the game until the third quarter so the NFL did a lot better job of not showing her all the time.

Classic Thursday night game............Kansas offense yet to find top gear while Denver is still searching for their gears. 92 yards for Wilson and his poor decision making continues. So the defense for Denver shows some improvement but I wonder what the 49ers offense would have done to them ? The turnovers are killing them or just compounding the problems. Some of the talking heads are expecting Denver to have a trade sale before the cut off especially on offense. They need a change up at WR at least and a consistently good RB while Wilson continues to look like a very average QB if that.

You look quickly to the window..."Is that Taylor Swift with Russell!" and sneak out.

What a dud game. KC was literally trying to let the Broncos get in the game with their poor offensive production - particularly in the red zone; only one score in 4 tries? (Reid post-game said he was really concerned & needs to "fix-it" so they can be "revelant" at season's end).

Russell Wilson? 92 yds passing, 2 picks & 3.2 yards per pass. I say no more...this speaks for itself.

Hats off to Butker - really the star of game: 4/4 plus that sweet 60 yarder into the wind. Very seldom to you see a kicker the star of the game dominating the points scored with today's high-octane offenses.

Tidbit: Mahomes has never lost to the Broncos (12-0).

They haven't been the same since Seattle humbled them in the SB. Metaphorically the signal moment was the hit on Demaryius Thomas from Kambam Chancellor. Worth seeing the highlight....Ironic that R. Wilson is living the flipside of that event, now.

Denver actually won the SB against Carolina two years after Seattle beat them. Though that game was all defense. In fact, if you look at the stat line, the Panthers played one of the very best defensive games in history. Their offense however didn't. Cam looked lost, Von Miller got to him, and in his head. The Panthers turned the ball over 4 times, and once Cam refused to jump on a fumble for some inexplicable reason. But the Denver offense produced nothing of substance all day. Just 11 first downs all game, 1/11 on third down. Only 194 total yards, with Manning 13/23 for 104, that's it. Stunningly anemic numbers for a team that won, and somehow put up 24 points. Of course, Carolina collapsed on offense just the same. Cam was a terrible 18/41, and to be honest, I don't think his career ever recovered. Denver letting Von Miller walk right as he was entering his prime was about as stupid as the Raiders doing the same with Kalil Mack. And that I think really hurt Denver.

At this rate Belicheck is going to need to be coaching at least through 2024 to pass Schula. Likely 2025. If Andy Reid coaches Patrick Mahomes another 7 years, he could pass them both.

I think one line in that article about Purdy said something: "Shanahan has a knack for getting the most out anyone who can execute his scheme without trying to play hero ball." What it didn't say, is that doesn't make it a plug and play system. It's like an old assumption some people made: If the 49ers had drafted Phil Simms instead of Joe Montana, he would have won 4 Super Bowls and all those MVPs. Uh, I don't buy it. Simms was good, but... The other one you often hear is akin to this, "Brock Purdy wouldn't be playing this well if the 49ers had the Giants offensive line and lack of receivers." Okay, sure, but that's not how it works. I think even if he wins MVP, or the Super Bowl, and Super Bowl MVP, there will still be some critics, and people insisting it's Shanahan and his QB scheme. You know, the same scheme Trey Lance couldn't play well in, even with all the patience, time and coaching in the world.

All true. I remember that moment Cam saved himself and it became the definitive moment of his future career.
Purdy has the cool that Jimmy G couldn't maintain. He doesn't fluster easily and he's mobile . They'll be hard to beat but, as with the Tour: there are weeks to go and injuries to avoid.

Thoughts on a few games:

MIN@CHI - Both teams are 1-4. Both teams struggling. Vikings better on paper.
SEA@CIN - This is another game the Bengals must win, but Seattle is good, and coming off a bye. Bengals have to be looking at the Rams game and how LA put up 30 points on Seattle, and slowed their offense.
SF@CLE - A lot of talk about Garett and the Browns having the best D in the league. But that doesn't mean they can stop SF for long, or score much on the 49er D.
CAR@MIA - I wonder if the Dolphins can put up another 70 points? Seriously, Bryce Young has not played well at all, and Frank Reich already looks overly stressed and unhappy. Carolina has one of the most impatient, meddling owners in David Tepper. Maybe he's looking to tank to move the team to London?
DET@TB - A good test for Tampa and Mayfield, as he's likely going to need to throw, a lot.

DAL@LAC - Both teams seem to have so many good players, depth, but both capable of winning or losing on any given week. Chargers coming off a bye. This is Kellen Moore's "homecoming" against his former team.

Yes the Browns have a good defense but that doesn't make it a good match up against the 49ers especially with one good lineman missing, their starting QB out and maybe Njoku as well.

If the Chargers beat the Cowboys the Cowboys will drop to 3-3 and are running into some tough games. Getting rid of their O/C hasn't helped them.

Detroit game should tell us more about how good the Buccs are.

Seattle game will be a real test for the Bengals and they need the win badly.

Geno Smith off rythm in the 4th qtr when it counted. That and his receivers either didn't agree on which way to cut or failed to move to the ball on a bad passes. The Hawks defense played well enough to win. Kudos to the Bengals for staying focused the whole game on defense. They and Mixon's runs outright won it for Burrow and Co.

Agree Seattle's offense didn't get it done, especially in the red zone, and late. I haven't watched the whole game though (just RedZone).

Browns played well, but also got surprisingly lucky with that missed FG, and two questionable calls late. Then both Deebo and McCaffrey hurt. But, they held the SF offense in check, and moved the ball when they had to. This game may actually help both teams though, in the long run.

Incredible win for the Jets. Wilson played okay, but the real story was the Jets defense constantly harassing Hurts and stopping the Eagles offense.

I'm not surprised the Lions beat TB by two TDs, but I'm surprised both teams offense didn't put up many points.

Really nice win for Washington, both sides of the ball. They look well prepared, well coached. Wonder if the owners are really going to just up and clean house, how that it appears this talented staff is doing so well having been freed from the tyrant.

How valuable is Justin Jefferson? Vikings struggled to put up any highlights in eeking out a win over a Bears team with a strainer of a defense.

CJ Stroud is for real! He (finally) threw a pick, but went right back to work next time he had the ball. The guy is already looking like a stud, early in his NFL career. Great poise, great touch on his passes against a stiff D.

Garappolo hurt for the Raiders, taken to the hospital, even though he appeared to be okay sitting on the bench and walking away.

Both Hurts and Purdy play mediocre games on the same day. Browns defense is by far the best the 49ers have faced so far.49er O line has to do better than that and apart from a few early drives and the final one, the 49ers offense looked anaemic, not helped by injuries to Deebo and CMC and it seems that Trent Williams is also injured. Very sloppy performance by the 49ers. The run defense was off, kicker missed two gettable kicks and Purdy struggled to move the ball. Aiyuk had four drops and then of course the refs get involved when the game is there to win. Browns back up QB was better than expected but their defense won the game and their run game did more than enough on a sloppy 49ers defense. 12 penalties didn't help the 49ers.

Jets also won with their defense getting multiple turnovers and Breece Hall is proving to be a handful on offense. Interesting results with both frontrunners going down. Shanahan wiill be disappointed that he couldn't close for the win in a hard fought game and the Jets handled Hurts well. Wilson did enough to keep the Jets in the game. Great results for the Browns and the Jets as both teams were also effected by injuries going into the games and will be getting players back. Bengals have back to back wins and will hope to go on a run now.

A HUGE win for the Jets! I think Wilson played better than okay. Granted, he didn't light it up (186 yds, 57% pct, 73 rating) but he completed passes when he needed to - and more importantly,  no stupid turnovers to lose the game.

In fact, he looked a lot more confident out there taking on more of a leadership role with the offense. He's starting to make a believer out of me Alpe & I may have to walk back my earlier statements that I made about him being a "bust." Lol

Nonetheless, a hard hitting game where every player was giving 100%. Unfortunate the Eagles lost Big Lane Johnson early in the game - significantly hurting their offense.

I am not really sure what I have witnessed.. But I loved the final play of Bills-Giants..but for the day it's been crazy and most kickers were cursed today. I played a football pool sheet and had more than half the games wrong.. I sure hope I have hair after the Chargers game..
