18 game seasons are both inevitable, and a bad idea. They would certainly need a 2nd bye week, plus to expand both the roster, and practice squads. But even then it's a bad idea, as QBs are likely to go down even more frequently than they do now. Imagine weeks, 17, 18, 20 when a winning team loses their QB, and are led into the playoffs with their version of Jarrett Stidham. Or tough guys like Josh Allen has a foot so badly broken he can't play. Plus the longer the season gets, the more likely players will sit, like they do in the NBA, where teams strategize losses, just to get to the "tournament" of the playoffs healthy. Fans will be upset if they are in a city like Arizona, looking forward to seeing someone like Lamar, or Allen come there and play for maybe the only time in their career, only to find out it's a "rest" game for that star.

I think what the NFL needs to do is plan to expand another 8 teams. Yep, eight. Four in Europe (England, Germany, Spain, France, or two in one of those countries, UK and Germany seem most popular), and four in the US (plenty of cities possible: St. Louis, San Antonio, Portland, Oklahoma City, San Diego, Salt Lake City, maybe even Toronto). AND have a second bye week. This bye week could do two things. Help teams travel to/from Europe. But also have one bye week the week before a Thursday night game. All this would take are a few billionaires to buy a franchise. And since the NFL basically prints money they are so successful, it wouldn't be a bad investment for any potential owner.
I love your optimism but I would be surprised more if expansion number was above 2 teams, with none international based. And the numbers are not transparent at this point , a game in Australia, Argentina or Germany, England costs how much and how many people subscribe to NFL package on some service.
I don't think that Mexico is a hard sell, @135 million people, disproportionate amount of TV watchers.. Many people in Mexico have dish or streaming but also I think there is headroom to broadcast a game on regular channels and NFL could get some good sponsors, soda, beer, snacks, cars are big things in Mexico just like US. To me Mexico is an easy market for NFL I would not spend too much money, if they get access people will tune in, @$10-20 bucks a month, don't see it.
People trying to figure out why one American football team is popular, like 49ers in Australia.. In Mexico... Buffalo Bills are wildly popular..
I think it's crazy that NFL is wanting a Concorde to give far away fans their football fix. You can definitely see some crazy stuff in statistics playing out if team that travel out of the country disproportionately lose the week after travel and it becomes a huge liability.
Some of this is pretty good.

That is without question most likely. They just need someone with cash, a few motivated politicians, and gullible taxpayers. San Diego and St. Louis seem most likely.

Frank is quite good! I'm old enough to remember Rich Little. He'd be proud of Frank!

That's why it's funny that the Eagles are trying to transition Hurts to more of a pocket passer when his game is predicated on his elite running skills as well as his above-average passing skills. And this was the SB MVP who beat KC with both his legs & arm.
And let's not forget the Chargers blaming Greg Roman for Herbert's failing (again) in the playoffs, even though Herbert was more dynamic than ever before. So now they are going to bring in McDaniel, who will turn him into a quick strike passer, like Tua, but without the concussions. Okay, sure.

In a strange situation, I can actually see the Chargers finishing 10-7 next year, missing the playoffs, and firing Harbaugh, "the experiment is over", and making McDaniel the HC.

Jay Glazier said Maxx Crosby good as gone for the Raiders. But at roughly the same exact time, Maxx was posting about how he would love it if Jim Schwartz became the Raiders DC (rumors exist). So who the heck knows. But if the Raiders are going to deal him, now would be the time. He's 29, had some minor surgeries but been able to play most downs still, and is partway into a fat contract the Raiders just paid the front end of. So they could likely get a few top draft picks to help them rebuild.

Not a surprise there at all. Jones has redeem his career with that fine performance going 5-3 in that 8 game stretch when Purdy was injured. His stats were impressive with a 69% comp pct, 7.4 Y/A & a 97.4 passer rating - all career highs. In fact, his passer rating was 13th best, and look at all the top QBs he finished ahead of:

He kept the 9ers in playoff contention when things looked bad when Purdy went down. And being a former 1st rounder (15th OA), why would he want to settle for anything else other than a starting spot?

Wouldn't the taxpayers have to approve funding to help build multi-billion dollar super stadiums at those cities? I don't think the Murph or the Edward Jones "concrete" dome is going to cut it with the NFL's appetite for these mega-dollar palaces. Lol.

So, Mastermind McDaniel turning Herbert into a pocket passing quick strike artist is supposedly the winning formula?

Now to the real analysis: You're absolutely right that Herbert was more dynamic than ever. His regular season heroics both passing & rushing were quite remarkable given the plethora of injuries to that offense. In fact, he was ranked as the 3rd best QB for the 2025 regular season with the following summary:

"Justin Herbert deserves some sort of award for the courage this NFL season has required from him. He lost one of his starting tackles for the entire season (Rashawn Slater), the other for the majority of it (Joe Alt) and his top running back (Omarion Hampton) for a good chunk, as well, and still found a way to lead the Chargers to an 11-6 finish and return trip to the postseason. In some weeks, Herbert isn't just powering the Chargers through the air but also leading them in rushing (largely out of necessity). However the Chargers' season ends, they should thank Herbert for keeping it alive as long as he has."

Let's be honest here. Herbert is very good during the regular season - especially this past season - but sucks in the postseason (like a few other top QBs out there.). Why? Who knows but I guess they're trying to fix it with OC changes.

On Harbaugh, I think if he misses the playoffs he's done. As long as they make the playoffs every season, Harbaugh stays. I don't think his brother would have been fired if the Ravens had made the playoffs (I think the league likes the Harbaughs).

That's got to be exciting for you? Are you going to try to get tickets?

This is quite historic with the first NFL game being played in the Australian continent.

Who's next? Tokyo? Seoul? Manilla?
I will probably be priced out. I will check out the domestic airfares and ticket prices later but I won't pay for bad seats when I can see it live on TV. I'm retired so money is always on the agenda. I will think about it. Seems that the 49ers might also be playing in Mexico City as the home team. Because the MCG is a large stadium and a cricket ground, the mediocre seats will be a long way from the field. 100 K capacity. At least the players will get a great grass surface to play on. It will be a sell out I have no doubt.Over 7 million NFL fans in Australia now in a population of 25 mill. Australians are big sports fans in general and Melbourne always has good crowds to the elite events. The weather in the first month of spring should be pretty good. not too hot. Melbourne is more extreme than Sydney with weather changes as it is much further south so it can get very cold as well but usually not at that time of the year. Nothing like north American winters.

Which again makes me wonder why minor league football (like the UFL) hasn't taken off bigger, not just in the US but globally. No, the play is not at the level of the NFL. But there have been some exciting games and great plays in the UFL that are plenty entertaining.

New NFL teams wouldn't play in the EJ dome or Qualcom other than maybe 1-2 seasons. A new stadium would need to be built. Municipalities, new laws, bribery, some politician spinning it as a win for the citizens, not just the billionaire who owns the team. I can see it. I mean, look at what the Chiefs convinced the people in eastern Kansas to build for them (In case you haven't been there, I can assure you there is no luxury anything in eastern Kansas. It's pretty old, small towns, hardscrabble).

There will be some interesting free agent QBs available (possibly) this coming season. I'm assuming Daniel Jones will be resigned by the Colts, achilles and all. The list gets interesting as to who may become a starter, and on what team? Mac Jones, Kyler Murray, very likely to get moved. But Malick Willis should get a real shot somewhere. Kirk Cousins is now free. Is Zach Wilson finished? Or should he go become Purdy's backup in SF? And what about Will Levis? Before he was hurt, he was better than Cam Ward. Is Anthony Richardson done? Tre Lance probably is.

Yes it's certainly not a loaded QB draft according the experts. Supposed to be a good one for WR's. With
Jones injured and many teams still having QB issues including the Colts, Vikings, Falcons, Browns etc I don't think there will be enough quality QB's in the draft so retreads and vets might get another chance. The best of them anyway. Be surprised if Tua or Murray were moved with their contract situations and new coaches but you never know. Browns will dump Watson as soon the the money side eases up a little. Either way they are going to take a hit. Maybe the worst trade in NFL history but the Texans won't mind of course as it helped them rebuild quite nicely. The Lance trade was also costly for the 49ers during their SB run re 2019 -23 when their quality players were at their peak while now they are firmly in rebuild mode with only four of their home grown stars left from that period and all of them got injured this season . While Aiyuk is done at the 49ers and CMC was their only star left upright to everyone's surprise along with Trent Williams playing on one leg. Hard to believe that the Cardinals, Lions and Dolphins had even more injuries than the 49ers. The second time the Cardinals played the 49ers it was more of a case of who was playing, not who wasn't playing.

Maye was robbed MVP considering Stafford has a better cast but it’s nice he got one during his career. Super close vote.
Indeed, it was the closest vote since 2003 when Peyton Manning & Air McNair tied declaring co-MVPs.

Stafford & Maye received all the 1st place votes except for three; two for Allen & one surprisingly for Herbert:

I think had Shough played more games, he would have won.

I honestly don't like these awards much, for a few reasons. Maybe because there seems to always be some bias to them? Maybe because it's voted on. Maybe because the Olympics are going, and I really don't like judged events, or think they need to be in an entirely different category.
