Noticed Team Sky riders have names on their backs (a la football) .Didn't IAM get told by the UCI they couldn't do that and had to remove it?

(Its a great idea btw)

I think the problem was the way it was written. Originally it was IAM [name]. However, for some reason UCI wouldn't accept that - can't recall what the reasoning was - so it ended up as [name] IAM. Essentially turning the team into a bunch of Yodas...

The names were in a part of the jersey that is reserved for the sponsors.

UCI explanation was that there are areas of the shirt that are designated for sponsors' names, and that the IAM rider names appeared within that space. Names can appear elsewhere (and sponsors' names can presumably extend beyond the reserved areas)

I would love to see some standard for presenting names such that they can be seen easily and are uniform across all teams. And/or a squad number on the helmet.

This is becoming ridiculous and not just because they turned one of the best jerseys of the peloton to a best youngster jersey. Please, UCI, appoint a design genereal and fix this mess from the beginning of the season so we do not have to watch races with 5-6 red jerseys during the season and then a complete overhaul at the Tour each year.
