I've had another look...

...and it's still dreadful.

Like many here I was a multiple times per day visitor to this site. Now, I've dipped in every week or so to see if there any changes to layout that make it less difficult to get to what I want to read. It isn't. It's rubbish. It'll be months before I bother with this again.

I feel for the Aussie guys that started this site so many years ago before it was sold and subsequently and comprehensively buggared up.

The faults of the new design have been well described by others and there is nothing to add there.

Goodbye cn - I'm off to nurse my grief at your passing

Thanks for that post and all the others. We need to keep the pressure up as these people at Future (Thick as they are) will not do anything until the site is sold again. We have to make sure it is still CN before it gets sold and not lumped together with BikeRadar, which I think will happen in 2010.

Cyclingnews is dead, we all know that, but we need great posts to keep the idea alive.

I encourage Manolo, Dimspace etc to keep returning to this thread to keep it up. I only look at this thread, and can not bring myself to even look at the website, I know it will be the same crepe as before, we need new forum people to air their views.

Manolo, if you're delusional, bitter, stressed, over-purpled - a whole, WHOLE lot of the rest of us are also.

I think the poll idea is super. Don't wait for it but it would go a long way in helping either us understand and cope - or "them" understand and change.

Meanwhile, phooey!

one small point..

those of us who dont visit cycling news anymore, and i genuinly havnt visited it since about a week after the changes, would not know about the poll..

Nice to hear from you Dimspace. I too have not visited, I have sometime pressed the wrong button and by mistake ended up on the CN front page, luckily, because it takes about an hour to load, I have been able to correct my fumbling fingers.

If any out there know about a 'Poll' please post on this list. It will mean we know you have visited the CN site, but that's OK...I am not sure they really want to do a poll as what would they do if most people say it is crepe, sack the good Doctor and start again????

Hey Guys and Gals,

I haven't been back to the forum in quite a while. I'm pretty sure a lot of the old crowd visit CN the way I do now, which is only when I must. Since the site was chopped to bits quite a while back, I started putting all my good sources for news, etc, in cycling in a separate folder of cycling bookmarks. That's the only alternative left now. Its not just the new site sucks, but it lacks good content and photos like the old site had, plus its much too much trouble to follow their pied piper by clicking through the hideous labyrinth they created. So when I can't find the info anywhere else, I hold my nose and go to CN, but its not someone I want to do anymore. I believe in time, I won't have to go to CN anymore at all, but will fully find all the news elsewhere, just not in one place like CN used to be. Clearly it's been hacked corporate style for click through to mirror revenue driven based designs like Bike Radar. If Bike Radar or CN will be called a success by its re-designers, it won't be because of ease of use, simplicity, or good comprehensive journalism, but only because they cloned the FP models for revenue streams, and of what value is that? If they want to do that, I guess it's ok with me as long as they don't destroy the old cycling culture that came to be known as CN. Go hack some other sport, but leave the old CN alone. I guess there is no chance FP will sell CN back to someone who cares about cycling instead of revenue streams, but I wish they would. My two cents.

Have not been to either section of the site (news and forum) in a while having been quite happy to get my news elsewhere and not deal with the disaster that CN has become. Its actually interesting to see how quite the forum has gotten compared, looks like I am not the only one who got fustrated.

I dont think the content has changed, but with the problems that you have with navigation putting you in a bad mood that you tend to be critical of everything.

Its been a disapointing visit, hopefulling if I come back in another couple of months the owners will have come to their senses. More likely BR and CN will have combined and the result will be a reduction in content and its related quality.

Help

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Have looked at this site for years and years but I have got so frustrated with no longer being able to find anything, have had to come for help.

Is there an easy way to see the Road Race results for earlier in the year? Try as I might I can't see any list of results for prior to August. Obviously I could search for the specific race but is there a way of just browsing the results?

Just for the record, I hate, hate, hate the new layout and increasingly avoid the site and look for news elsewhere.

Thanks for your post. We need new people on this thread. Tell your friends, that do not like the new CN to post something here. We have 50,000 views, but need more posts!

Site is the lowest quality

I agree with the guy who is going other places to get cycling news.... this site is junk... I found another site that covers all the races with tons of resources and get videos and images... I'm now deleting all references to this cyclingnews.com from my browser.. to bad it used to be the best and now its just the Bike Radar........

Here is the link to the 2009 calendar with results linked prior to August http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/road/?id=cal09

If you're looking for more than road results, a full archive of the site as it lived the day prior to the release of the new design is available from the "Full Archive' link on the new home page. Or here - http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/ to make it easy for you.

The Flash is such a waste of space and time...

I really hate the flash. It is hard to read, in your face, the cycle it takes of highlight and dim is annoying, and it just adds no value. The fact it remains is like a beacon to Future Publications apathy on the redesign.

Of all the new features this one keeps me away the most (as it sets the tone for my visit each time) although there are a host of design feature that also miss the mark for me. I stop by, get annoyed by the flash, scan some articles, perhaps read one, then go.

I never hang around CN, it is no longer my first cycling news site to visit (just one of many), and the site managers (read arrogance), owners (MIA) and their attitude to 'us' has been disappointing to say the least.

steve, if you work for cyclingnews I do not think you will be king of ad sales for long. Although maybe you are, given the number of ads on such a bad site.

Please vote in the poll thread about the flash.

If you want to have an impact on the future look and feel of Cyclingnews, make some constructive comments - we read them and take them in when discussing how we want to move the site forward. Taking a shot at me personally is really a waste of all of our time.

new website

I still do not like it. I have been trying. What in the hell was wrong with the old web site? Why fix something that is not broken? This reminds me of the movie "Idiocracy", if anyone has seen that.

"Junk" has priority over content. Junk. Junk.

I think it was Emerson (I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) who said: "Simplify...Simplify"

I loved the old web site and tried to steer every rider I know to it.

No more. No more.

Constructive comments

Get rid of the flash. The titles highlight and dim faster than I can read them?????

Just put the titles there. I can read them for myself and decide if I want to read one, or all, of them.

Hello?

We have been telling you guys and gals at CN, to get rid of the Flash Carousal and to make ALL articles two columns instead of three since the new site launched. But, all you have done is ignore these suggestions(at least you gave us an option so we don't have to read spoilers). The site is way too cluttered currently, I say elegant simplicity is always best.

Yup, and once you've sorted out this mess, you can join the Taliban (I can't provide a link, but it seems they are always willing to accept new recruits) and get them to redefine their strategic objectives too.

can only add get rid of the Flash, get rid of the clutter etc.
I now very rarely use the site while I was on 1 or 2 times every day. Now perhaps once a month. Use pez mostly, news may be slower but its all there and generally the writing is much better. Occasionally velo news.
Miss the training articles but thats about it, but they were killed off before I left.

Not much good to me, I am in California!! but I could do better than these turkeys with my hands tied behind my back and wearing a blindfold....I know the good Doctor nol onger post, in fact none of the staff posts now, because they know they have F'ed up and as we said right at the beginning, these want their jobs and are not strong enough to walk out. I have always walked out when things were done and were WRONG...CN update was wrong and the staff should have said so, with their feet.
