Graabak has had an interesting and kind of weird career. He is now the most successful nordic combined skier in Norwegian olympic history. He has more medals than any of the legends of the past. Still you can say that during his entire career he has never even been considered the best NC skier in Norway. If I recall correctly Graabak was the fifth member of the Norwegian team back in Sochi and only got to race the large hill because one of his teammates underperformed in the normal hill.

Niskanen won't start the 50k. Lame if you ask me, he is clearly the best endurance skier of the games, and should be able to fight for a medal. Some speculate this is about being ready for the holmenkollen 50k classic. Fair enough, but that's two weeks away from the Beijing one.

You have to imagine Tiril feels the pressure more than Roiseland, who has already had a great games so the pressure is somewhat off. But I am rooting for Tiril.
I'm only watching via text updates but how has E Oeberg lost 80 seconds with 1 penalty loop already.

I think she's cooked (Öberg). But now the God of Wind decided that this was too predictable, so the Norwegians had horrible wind, and then it completely stilled off to the next runners.

everyone but Häcki, Nigmatullina and Stremous did the relay, and they finished 16th, 17th and last. Although the first two were pretty quick indeed

The Swedes have had horribly slow ski throughout the Olympics, btw. Even when they won gold in the relay they looked bad

Nigmatullina did the relay. She anchored the silver medalists.

Justine has actually been under the radar super quick all season, up there with Røiseland and Sola, but shooting far worse for much of the season and prone to the occasional day where she's just completely uncompetitive so it isn't as clear just from average course time ranks. The French have had a really up-and-down Games, Fillon-Maillet aside, but the Mass Start in a championships is usually the last event so freshness is a key consideration; considering Marte had been fighting for medals in every race so far and Justine skipped the pursuit after a bad sprint, it's not too surprising that Justine had more left in the tank.

I kind of like that both Niskanen and Bolshunov seemed to have faded after their initial achievements. Before the Olympics it was stressed repeatedly that the high altitude and rough conditions would take its toll and that the athletes had to choose between the races to be able to compete. It seems to be viable for almost everyone. Well, except some of the Norwegians of course.
