Nys guys finish first - Thibau, second of his name, Coronation Thread

Maybe the difference is that Nys is not yet at a level where he can race a full cross or road season at a consistently high level. Perhaps never will.
I'm sure both he and Sven learnt from Autumn 2023 where he started the cross season literally flying, but the level soon dropped off and he struggled thereafter. This season has been better, but still very up and down.
He seems to be a rider for the big occasions and I'm sure next week's worlds is his top priority.

The up an down part also has to do with coming into the season ill (10 days of fever), being still very young and a certain dose of bad luck. Compared to the previous season, it's a big difference already. So Thibau is up for it the next years without bad luck, I'm quite sure of it.

And indeed. No one expects him to defeat MvdP at the worlds, but actually don't be surprised if he gives him a bigger run for his money than anticipated. If there is one guy on the startlist able to do the impossible ...

Perfect start to the road season. According to himself, training has gone very well. Few have a better punch than Nys. He will do damage this year. Should be one of the top 3 favorites for Fleche.

Will be interesting to see how he will go in LBL, a hard monument.

I agree. Some people almost eat me alive for saying he is the biggest threat to Pogacar in FW. I don't think he will beat him but if anyone can beat Pogacar is him.

Nys has the potential to beat Pogacar since he is very young, his main strenght is his uphill kick and Mur de Huy is the type of climb where he is at his best. Remco, I already know he doesn't have a chance (even at his peak and I don't believe he is good enough right now) because he is not stellar in these type of finishes. Right now (2024-2025) Remco can beat Pogacar in flat TTs, but can't in any other type of stage or classic (based on power and not tactics).

Nys is the only one other than Van der Poel who has a kick that can potentially beat Pogacar perhaps, the problem is that he has to stay close enough on Mur de Huy for that to matter without burning up, and honestly i think it's still too soon for him, or le Mur will just be too long for him. Against the likes of Pidcock, Skjelmose, Van Gils... sure.

As for actually beating Pogacar on Mur de Huy, he might have a bigger chance to beat Pogacar here than Evenepoel, but Evenepoel has a far bigger chance to finish 2nd behind Pogacar than Nys does.

Just did a H2H between Nys and Grégoire on PCS. Same age. same height, same weight, same type of rider.
Grégoire has nearly double the km in road racing and as a result more PCS points, Nys has 12 wins of which 5 WT, Grégoire has 7 wins of which 1 WT. Grégoire has generally better placings in races he did not win, but Nys seems to win more easily. I think Grégoire came onto the scene with more hype, but Nys seems to have progressed more since turning pro. I still expect Grégoire to find another gear though.

Good analysis. I think Nys is likely the next young rider to take a big step and win an Amstel/Fleche/E3 level one day race win.

This kid is good. I think he should do training rides in Pais Vasco to be prepared and fresh for Ardennes. I'm curious to see if he can race RVV one day.
