CN today "...The CAS decision will be the last chapter in the long story of whether or not the Tour de France winner should be banned for having returned a positive sample for clenbuterol. ..."

I noticed that as well - does that suggest that Contador has got off and WADA has briefed off the record that it won't take any appeal's further?

(Or probably, more likely, someone at CN copy and pasted off a CAS press-release!)

I don't know if I'm suppoosed to *faceplam* or *head desk* at this latest delay.

This whole charade long entered crazy, and this latest delay, just is beyond stupid. Set a realistic timeline and MEET it.

18 months or so after the adverse analytical finding and we still have no definative answer.

My analysis of this charade is that Contador was given not guilty. If he was found guilty, this verdict would have been out so quick, speed records will be broken. It appears UCI, WADA really bungled this. The case (or no case) of ClenB for several sportsmen in the last few months has made this case a joke. The problem is how does CAS present this so that everyone appears to be winner. I think that is the complexity of this case. It will be a very interesting verdict to read.

This is how I think as well. If they find him guilty, the only thing they have to refer to is strict liability, so the writing of the resolution would not take as long as it is doing now.

My take on things is that Barak has already made up his mind long ago, but is having problems convincing the other two.
The other two are most likely negotiating a deal with Barak as we speak, urging him to give them a fair share of the deal he made with Riis.

Blablabla, are you still on that bribery thing? Get over it, you're no longer a child, right?

This is my thinking as well. It was easy to give Contador a pass, but they are struggling with the difficulty of explaining it.

Yeah it must be hard to give the same statement as the spanish federation. :)

You could say that this is not really a delay at all. CAS said before that the announcement would come during the week of January 31. February 6 is actually the end of the week starting tomorrow, January 31. At any rate, it's in the ballpark.

From the January 16, 2012 CAS bulletin ("regrettable incident" refers to some media reporting rumours):

"Unfortunately, this regrettable incident has slightly delayed the work of the Panel and the publication of the final decision should now take place during the week of 31 January 2012."

I dont think this will ever be solved, just permanently delayed... contardor for the giro again!
LOL.

Whatever the outcome is, I'll have mix feelings about it. If he is banned then I'll feel a little bad because I enjoy watching him race. At the same time it seems to be a lot of natural talent in him. Putting legal stuff aside, It looks like he doped, but so did most of the other GC contenders.

That’s the world we live in. A little bit of doping is ok. Out of control full-scale systematic team-wide doping maybe a thing of the past but a bloodbag here and there along with some Clen to drop some weight is ok.

We get the races the UCI wants us to see - they accept with a little bit of doping as being ok. That’s what the passport is. Its not a anti-doping tool but a dope control controlling tool so doping doesn’t become like Puerto again.

I’m with you. I’d hate to see him banned. He’s adds so much to the races with his style. Alas the rules are the rules. Yes most are leveling themselves and aiding their recovery with some form of medication so it’s hard to come down are Contador alone.

For me it’s one part emotional and one part applying the rules.

Strict liability would (almost certainly) not do the trick. With letting go Ovtcharov, Nielsen, Van Hout and all the soccer players WADA itself already took care of that..

Actually I think the bolded kinda summarize this thread up for 80% of the ppl posting. The ppl who like him wants him to get off while the ppl who dislike him wants him convicted. Shouldnt be like that but seems to be.

Strict liability + the origin of the meat then?
