This is no different and odd than if David Duke started hanging out with some random minority after getting shredded in the media. Yeah, you can hope he has turned a leaf but there really isn't anything authentic about finding some random guy to hang out with the purpose of blaring it out to the media. Aside from someone going on a bike ride with the president maybe, it really shouldn't be news to go on a bike ride with anyone.

I think criticizing Mercier is unfair. Maybe he's the forgiving type. I would tell Lance to go to hell but maybe Mercier was curious and figured what harm could come from going on a ride with Lance and maybe being friends with him? I don't fault him for it. It seems LA never did anything to him.

So how far is it supposed to go? At what level is it ok for someone to be civil and friendly to LA? Should everyone he encounters from now on just turn their back and ignore him like some pariah?

Maybe Mercier is comfortable with the decision he made and how things turned out. It is a lot better than the forty-year-olds who are still clinging to a domestic pro career and whinging about how the doperz stole their dreams. If you are still bitter about deciding not to do what it took to be a euro pro twenty years later then you made the wrong decision.

Mercier's approach to all this is probably the most refreshing thing I've read about in this sport in some time.

Besides once you start pushing the pedals with someone regardless of your past or personalities, all bets are off. How many of us ride with people we'd never be seen in public with?

Maybe the ride itself is bigger than all else. So in the moment, so present. All good IMHO

Okie Dokie. But if LeMond suddenly became drinking buddies with Armstrong, I would get a spontaneous saddle sore.

The real question is: which one of us is the guy nobody else want's to be seen with...I always think it's the other guy, but I think, therefore I am, so I'm probably biased.:)

You must admit standing next to hincape for a photo op with a ride clean top on has some comedy factor.

Aside from that, I don't know why these guys are lining up to be part of the apology tour or whatever. Bassons I really don't understand, he sounded super cool in the interview but I don't understand why you would bother? If la sent me a let's get together email with a oh yeah the media will be there too, I would say yeah sure then not turn up. Betsy might be an attention ***** but at least she got that right.

The true pro athlete, the guys we have today are amateurs in comparison.
