Armstrong in deep trouble now.

Neal Karlinsky ‏@NealKarlinsky
US govt. wants a jury trial against Armstrong & his longtime coach Johan Bruyneel for damages. Oprah's couch was nothing compared to this.

More bad news for Lance Armstrong...DOJ files its civil case.

LOL. Jury trial. Even if he wins he loses. It will cost him a metric buttload just to defend himself.

Tailwind is named as well. Some wealthy investment banker will hopefully get pulled into the scrum.

How heavy is a metric buttload?

I didn't say 'buttload'! I said, 'assload'! Beauracrats! To think, I was polite with these people, that's the worst part.

His styling consultants have obviously gone for the casual but elegant yachting look...he had on the same clobber for #DOPRAH. The think tanks and test audiences must think it inspires confidence.

Whereas a sharp suit could remind them of bankers and lawyers. In fact I have seen Lance in a sharp suit, and he looked redunculous.

Now Lance is going to be deposed by the USA, and he's going to have to answer at least every question that USADA would have asked him under oath and under penalty of perjury.

Lance knows that the feds have a mountain of evidence against him from the criminal case. The federal civil lawyers will probably not have access to that information--which should mean that Lance will not be able to get access to that information.

But the federal criminal prosecutors (Birotte's people and maybe the San Diego people) will be watching Lance's civil deposition testimony and if Lance lies, then Lance may be opening himself up to a criminal prosecution. Lance's deposition will be a minefield for him. This appears to be major leverage for the feds. And Lance's deposition here won't be like the SCA deposition--a few hours under oath--Lance's deposition in this multimillion dollar lawsuit will take days and it will be extremely detailed.

My prediction: Lance will posture hardball, like he always does. And, when pressured, he will fold like a cheap suit.

I should print and frame this :)

Washington (CNN) -- The Justice Department late Tuesday formally filed its case against Lance Armstrong and his company Tailwind Sports for millions of dollars that the U.S. Postal Service spent to sponsor the cycling team.

"The USPS paid approximately $40 million to sponsor the USPS cycling team from 1998 to 2004," the court document says.

The government said it was intervening to recover triple the amount of the sponsorship funds under the False Claims Act, which could bring a total of more than $100 million in damages.

The complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia charges that the use of prohibited drugs constitutes a breach of contract with the Postal Service.

The government had signaled it would in all likelihood file such an action. The complaint names Armstrong, team manager Johan Bruyneel and Tailwind Sports LLC as defendants. Under the law, the Justice Department faced a 60 day deadline to file its case, which runs out Tuesday night.
