Great post! However, are you saying to stay away from reading Wheelman?

Not necessarily. Wheelmen did an especially good job detailing Thomas Weisel's role financing Armstrong's TdF teams.

I'm just hoping that with more time and (hopefully) additional sources, Macur will be able to shed some light on why the federal investigation was dropped so abruptly. And maybe address other issues, like Brunyeel's alleged advance knowledge of doping tests. There are still a lot of unanswered questions.

And this damning quote:

In the recently published book about the doping scandal, "Wheelmen," by two Wall Street Journal reporters, LeMond recalls a discussion with Weisel about doping in professional cycling and quotes Weisel as saying, "I think this is bull-. Riders should be able to take whatever they want."

Meanwhile:

"Mr. Weisel unequivocally denies being aware that Mr. Armstrong and other cyclists were doping. He has said that before and continues to say it now," [his lawyer] Sacks said Tuesday.

"These are not factual allegations.

What about Emma’s testimony? That's not factual?

As for being aware of doping in general, he told the San Francisco Business Times last year, "People say, 'Jesus, you had to know this was going on because everyone was doing it.' That's not true. I never thought it was."

Jesus, are you a liar.

This clears up the situation with the federal case:

Weisel got some relief in February when the Justice Department, which joined Landis' suit, did not name him in its separate complaint. But his name is still on the original suit.

A case study about the liars and cheats who helped Lance Armstrong by teaming with him and supporting him.

Stories like this cast the main character as lone dopers when the reality is much more grim. In Armstrong's case, we can probably thank Carmichael's "Extract of Cortisone injections or Leave the Team" policy.

We also know that other development teams in the cycling world used to speak openly of their "medical program."

Mellow Johnny & the new US Pro Cup Series

The new 4-race USA pro mountain bike series has just been announced. Round 1 is Mellow Johnny's Classic held at Juan Pelota Ranch. Wonderboy owns Mellow Johnny's, correct? Juan Pelota Ranch is his property. How is it that the Supreme Nozzle is able to be involved with a USA Cycling event? How?!

Forgiveness and redemption. The Rise--Fall--Redemption storyline must be played out. It is irresistable and no force can stop it. It spits in the face of justice. It spits in the face of the lifetime ban. It even spits in the face of Travis and Betsy. The Redemption Myth cannot be denied!

Mellow Johnny's is likely part of a corporation that Armstrong holds an interest in.

Likely, what with all the lawyering he's prone to. But c'mon, "Mellow Johnny" and "Juan Pelota" are both nicknames of the Supreme Nozzle. Having both be part of an event in the national series is not appropriate. Why must he hang around so...it's like a bad smell lingering in a elevator. :(

Mellow jonhnnys was co-owned by Lance Armstrong and his business manager Bart Knaggs.

I think Armstrong has since fallen out with Knaggs.

I believe that's correct...but then again, who hasn't fallen out with Armstrong? I mean, I bet given the chance to stick the knife in and twist it, Armstrong would even shiv Hincapie if he got the chance. Lance might not know when to keep his mouth shut, but that fu*ker knows how to hold a grudge, even if he is pretending not to hold one.

Agree in full with you.

I swear I read somewhere that Wonderboy no longer is a part of MJ's.

He was wearing a "mellow' hat when he met with Bassons, but maybe he was just doing a little marketing for a buddy...

Because USA Cycling, Thom Wiesel, fully support doping. They won't even consider what an awful signal this sends.

It wouldn't be so bad if no one showed up and the promoter lost money. Sadly, riders WILL show up for weekend warrior glory. May as well hang I LOVE DOPING and FRAUD banners around the place.

The latest movement, however, is linked to training camps that Astana and RadioShack conducted in 2009 and 2010 near the coastal towns of Calpe and Denia.

It’s unclear whether the investigation is focused solely on Spanish doctors Pedro Celaya and Luís Garcia del Moral and trainer Pepe Martí — three Spaniards associated with Armstrong who were singled out by USADA — or might cast a wider net.

MARCA reported that prosecutors have interviewed more than 20 people to determine if Spanish anti-doping laws were broken.

In the wake of the Operación Puerto doping scandal in 2006, Spain enacted a stricter anti-doping law that could have major implications for Spanish riders and staff on the team during the 2009-2010.

There were six Spanish riders on Astana in 2009, including Alberto Contador, while there were three with RadioShack in 2010.

The fallow nature of Lance's 'Forgive Me' roadshow:

http://theouterline.com/?p=396

As in apartheid, the prevailing system in cycling may have set the tone, but Armstrong’s vengeful actions were deeply personal, not ordered by any higher power – only by his own intent to preserve his wealth and position as cycling’s greatest champion. This is precisely why his punishment fits the crime.

And most damning in my mind, is that Armstrong used his political connections and high powered legal team in an attempt to destroy USADA, the very entity tasked with making sport clean so athletes aren't faced with the awful choice of having to dope in order to contend. Props to Travis Tygart for having an iron will and for so deftly deflecting Wonderboy's attempts to derail the investigation and castigate USADA.
