When the camera zoomed in on her, I checked for a moustache but didn't see any. She must have shaved properly before the start.

Yes BBC, she was definetly asking "the Q" he was definetly side stepping it.
Cynical cycling fan or not that was extra ordinary

Well the Chinese girl swam the freestyle final 50 faster than the male gold medal winner in there 400 medley, and only 3 hundredths slower than his final 100. 5 seconds faster than previous best see here. Extraordinary performance, but then Swim training works right?

Are you watching the BBC? When the presenter asked about "What questions marks does this raise?" and the ex-swimmer sort of side-shuffled and said that beating her PB by 5s was standard, that seemed like a dope question. Perhaps that is just the ears of a sceptical cycling fan, though.

To be fair, she's still young enough that huge performance jumps aren't as shocking as if she were, say, 25. But even so, that was just a preposterous final leg. Blowing past the American girl like the footage of Riccò on the Col d'Aspin going past the group with Arroyo and de la Fuente in it.

Ooh ooh codeword bingo (we should have a thread on that)

In a manner that suggested she was from another planet

Guys could someone explain the way Froome cracked? It suggests to me that SKY are doping on a daily basis during the tour and then came off the juice.

Because he worked all day on the front.

Are you crazy... the guy was part of a four man 200 km TT (and had arguably been pushing the hardest for awhile). Even with juice this was unprecedented. Note that they hammered a mindbogling 43 kmph.

If that was a standard performance I'm afraid to ask what in your eyes an outstanding performance is....

These guys worked all day on the front for 2 weeks on tougher stages than this one yet they struggled today.

Even if we gloss over the team size;

On the tougher stages it was a question of wattages. Had this been a tough course they would have ripped the peloton to shreds. Simply put: to many competitors still fresh.

And during the flat stages they always got help from other teams (and there never was much on the line during those stages).

What these four showed today is something I certainly can't remember seeing before. In the end Wiggo kept the gap at under a minute, even when he was completely kaput.

Froome's performance was absolutely mindboggling. Wiggo's was a dimension above it (and a lot of that was character).

Then I am confused as you rightly say. If pushing outstanding numbers in the tour dropped the peloton why not here?

it's not a stage race. He had a role in the road race, did it well, and then peeled off to save himself for the ITT.

Regarding Ye Shiwen, note that Phelps was only fifteen when he broke the world record on the 200 butterfly in 2004.

Remarkable stat: Ye Shiwen was faster than Lochte in the final 50 meters of their respective 400m races.

The pure power had to ease off on Box hill the final laps so Cav wouldn't come off. With all the star power in the breakaway, the catch was never to be.

Poor Canc, would have likley bridged to Vino and Uran and outpowered them in the last K. Since this is a doping thread, Vino's sample will likely be the most scrutinized ever in the sport. I hope it was a relativly clean performance, the sport doesn't need another ORR doping medal ordeal.

Yeah that was shocking. Doping insinuations because the performer had great improvements.

Does the bbc not know the Wiggins story they have been hyping?

Did Wiggo or Froome not solo to victory from 50k out because they knew the consequences of embarrassing queen and country would be far more dire?

Thank goodness cycling can count on women's swimming to make the sport look good.

And btw why are ex dopers even allowed to race in the Olympics?? I don't mind people who dope but then are apologetic and contrite, but Vino is a d!ck.

I rather think that was "the fairytale" McQuaid was talking about. But as a second guess this was probably more right...
