Wilco Kelderman is Dutch U23 champion time trial. Jasper Hamelink got 2nd, Marc Goos 3d. Tom Dumoulin (7th) and Jetse Bol (10th) maybe slightly disappointing.

Wouldn't it great if he won, 5 days before his 50th birthday?

But unless the local teams can get a strong presence in an early break, it'll probably be Sky taking the spoils again.

Yeah, Malc's a class act and a Gent too. He seems to be notably winding down this year, but I would never write him off ;)

Who's turn is it this year then?

Hunt, Downing and Thomas have been champion before. I reckon it will be either Swift as reward for his excellent season so far or Kennaugh, who has podiumed in each of the last three years.

(Or maybe it will be a condition to Cav signing)

Cant see them letting it come down to a sprint with Cav lurking in there. As such dont see Swift winning it. Shame as its only really Swift, Thomas and Wiggins are the ones that will get the jersey shown.

I think there's a bit more to Swift than just pure sprinting. I've always envisioned him to be an Oscar Freire type.

And I think you're maybe a little harsh excluding Stannard. He's a coming man in the classics.

Totally agree with the comment about Swift. Knowing how hard the circuit can become with distance, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a move without Cav.

I fancy stan to win it, I also fancy stan to then go to the tour de france wearing it.

Completley forgot about Stannard. Definatly a very strong rider but not going to be at the sharp end of races apart from cobble season. See it being a similar race to the Commonwealth games with Cav being attacked time after time until a small group goes away without him.

Yeah, it'll pan out a bit like that. He needs to make friends with Hammond, Lloyd and Blythe, and Rapha too (Millar not being there is a blow to him). Maybe they could call themselves Team Virgin.

Anyone know if it's on Eurosport again?

Just my opinion, but it seems unlikely for Wiggins to start unless Sky are planning on working for him. His Dauphine form so far suggests he doesn't need to go hunting extra race days for form, so I can't believe he'd risk entering unless there's a set of blue and red stripes at the end of it for him? I just can't see him doing a domestique role a week ahead of the Tour, the risks are too high. Did he start last year?

I would like Sky to let someone like Kennaugh or Stannard win it, but at the same time I think it should go to the rider who will show case it best, rather than someone destined to another 12 months of working for others. G did a good job of that with a breakout year in the classics, his ride on the cobbled stage at last year's Tour, the one man lead out train at Paris Nice etc. If it becomes a Sky training ride again I hope they give it to Swift, purely so the jersey is seen at the sharp end of races.

Or I wouldn't mind Cav holding on and then winning a few Tour sprints in the jersey either!;)

Apart from the huge marketing opportunity for the team on their home turf.

The risks of anything happening are more minimal. Its more dangerous for him to train on the public roads by his house than it is on closed course in the north east.

And why wouldnt he do a domestique role? He worked his **** off for Geraint and Edvald last spring, why, because in his own words they would be working for him in July.

From a commercial point of view it makes sense, from a personal point of view for brad it makes sense, and as I say, the dangers are less than riding his bike to the shops.

They wouldnt 'give' the jersey to anybody. Once Hunt was dropped last year the three in the break were told to race amonst themselves, if Kennaugh could have dropped Thomas he would have, but he couldnt and G one in a fair sprint. Will be similar this year, work together to make a selection but once that is done it will be everyman for themselves

This isn't a monument, it's just the GB champs. Wiggins can turn up and do a good job for 50-100km. It'll be no different effort-wise to normal training. He did that in 2009, breaking away with Froome.

Man, Rabobank have an awesome production line happening here. How will they be able to keep them all? I'd love the irony in GreenEDGE doing a Matthews role reversal. :D

There's no way he'll compete, surely? He's going to get royally screwed over by Sky.
