Strong sprint by Boonen and Greipel by the way. Cav was also sprinting but came up short.

I suspect his heart wasn't in it by that point, probably too busy wondering why he'd carried bottles for most of July

Loved it. Vino showing them how it's done. If this is his last year in cycling, what a way to end it.

GB, disappointing, but hard to pull it together down 2 riders.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Like another bigtime poster poster (not here) who hates Rogers and Wiggins, etc., but loves Ricco as a great guy. Petty ethnic resentments. Great panache.

It they tt'ed to the finish, they are doped to the gills. If not, they are idiots. Squared the circle.

I can think of a number of riders who animated this race about ten times more.

Great fourth place to him anyways, but the real hero of this race? Nah...

No, I would disagree, he put in some massive pulls....just drilled it when it counted. To bad it was a course set up for a sprint finish. The U.S. just raced a brillant tactical race. The Eurosport commentators, Boardman and Skippy, just could not see what they were doing. So close.....

Honestly don't see how this is a GB fail. Everyone raced not to win, but to not lose to Cav. Most of these countries "man in the break" wasn't really a threat to win there either. Kind of a weak excuse to not race.

But I'm happy to see Vino winning in Vino fashion. Just laying it all on the line.

Whinge whinge whinge. He finished third in his group. Goss was a chance to finish 3rd in a sprint. So how is that pathetic?

Typical reaction though I must say.

You clearly are still hurting from the Tour.
I suppose 5th here, does seem like a good result, after France.:)

Wow. Vino. What a beautiful way to end a career. Congrats to Uran(!) and Kristoff(!) also, and thanks to all the riders in the break for making it such a quality race.

...although looking at the replay I can't help but think Vino might've won it the Vino way.

Uran got caught looking the wrong way. Kind of dumb not to be hugging one of the barriers at that point in the race.

I definitely vote for no radios and smaller teams. I missed seeing the time gaps on TV though.

I would go for 5 mann teams in one day races and 7 in tours.

I couldn't stop laughing all day. What were Sky thinking? Didn't they honestly expect to ride for 250km with four guys?

That's the worst tactics I've seen since my racing days!

If Sagan and Boonen had been in the move and pulled back we'd have all said why didn't they wait for the sprint, Sky were always going to bring it back. Like you say, hindsight is always 20-20 :)

Actually hindsight is useless. It's like 'what if'.
Not sure what I was ****ing about 'in hindsight' ;)

O'Grady had been in that break since the start. He did not get a medal. I would argue that Goss would have got a medal given a sprint finish. Australia come out with nothing. Cav had been saying if it came to a finish he would bring it home. He was fully aware the people would not give it to him on a plate.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

Agree to disagree. At least the Aussies had options with O'Grady in the break and Goss in the bunch. For whatever reasos they decided on the tactics they thought would best suit them. At least they created more options for themselves than GB and Germany.

It is amusing to read how all these non-cycling followers on twitter have now become experts on Cycling and all the tatics. Some people are clueless!

I have figured it out. Uran was looking backwards to see if Cavendish was in his wheel. When that wasn't the case he was so confused he didn't pay attention anymore :p

We needed Sky(GB) to TTT for 250km. That would be a victory for "humane" cycling.

I love Vino winning! McQuaid might try and DQ the first 34 place getters to give Cav the win.

I'm looking forward to Wiggins making dubious comments about Vino.

He won't dare make comments with millar on his team. Besides it does not matter to wiggo as the race was over anyway so it does not matter to him who.took the gold, it was not gb.

I've tried talking sense in one of them. All he did was call me a w@nker and shout random insults.

These people are hilariously frustrated.

how many olympic silver medals have you won? Uran did exactly what he needed to do, if he just stayed in that group he would have finished 29th, when he attacked he wanted 1 or 2 guys to go with him and when he saw it was Vino, perfect, he killed himself working together to get the gap, knowing Vino will easily beat him in any sprint. if he attacked Vino, he never would have stayed away, great ride by Uran. perfect execution of a best possible plan for his abilities, and lucky for Vino he's a strong rider that knew his place along with him, no deal needed, they both knew the outcome when they saw their gap growing, I would do the same, silver at the olympics is pretty sweet.

Nice. How many have you won? Oh, your opinion is as worthless as mine then. Cool.

not trying to smooth things over the "criminal mistake" that Uran made- but even if the two had gone head to head to the finish- I still believe Vino had won still- the problem here is how "stupid" Rigo appeared to the world......fvck:mad:

Overall race: Not bad. Ex-doper wins. General public's stereotype of pro cycling confirmed. Really glad it didn't end as a bunch sprint. More bad luck for Cancellara.
Race radios: Get rid of them. Much less predictable racing. Much better racing, IMO.
Smaller teams: Me likey.
