Tp be fair the original course was far easier and they deserve credit for thinking up the idea of bringing the race 40k out to box hill for 9 accents which have been a big headache for cav and forces him to sacrifice his whole season.

Exactly, this course is nowhere near tailor made for Cav. Last year Cav would have bee dropped ages ago, he has put in a lot of work to be able to climb on this route. Just look at ZLM

He didn't warm down or miss enough birthdays.

He is applying the "less race kilometers, more efficiency" approach.

He needs to recuperate to be in good shape for the ITT. Wiggins and Froome will be running on fumes then :)

Bernie shows what his austrian heart is made of. Fish and chips.

It seems to me some of these guys are riding for their trade teams. It's worked out like that before.

Can anyone tell me if the U.S. feed at nbc is live-ish? I can't turn the sound up at the moment in the house.

I've seen Cav win in harder tour stages.

I wonder if Bernie can mask his leadout for Cav in the end by saying that he opened up the sprint early for himself, "unfortunately" Cav was on his wheel.

4 guys controlling a race of 250 km against 25 of the strongest riders in the peloton? After a long exhausting season and tour that surely make sense.

W and F will easily win gold and silver in ITT.

He also won that race a while back... somewhere in Italy... must've been important but I can't really remember how it's called...

Amandine Thomas-Commin of L'Equipe on Twitter:

"Eisel told Austrian journalists he would race for Sky today. As Uran told me."

He said in the newspapers yesterday, he's only riding for himself, and giving himself an (optimistic to say the least) 10% chance of winning a medal. I suppose maybe he got an offer between yesterday and today that he couldn't refuse.

Anyway, it's both embarassing and kind of funny.

It's as tailor-made as it can get. So Cav had to learn to climb a tiny bit to survive this course? Pfff, he was climbing better in 2009.

Cav has to win this. The sport authorities been hearing all week how great that would be for cycling and the Olympics. Everything's going according to the script.

GB Postal looks too fast - should keep some 30sec to the break and catch them only with some 30k to go, now there will be more action (hopefully)
