It's a dinky 1.2 race but the lack of full results is pretty hilarious considering the test event status.

Welcome to Britain 2011. You cant make it up really but nothing will ever change here.

Was on the inside of the last bend with 400m to go - Nearly had my head taken off after leaning out a little far...

Good fun, but organisers should be ashamed - good turnout in the public area but 150-200m to go in the VIP place was a ghost town, the announcer was only audible from the VIP area and there were no screens. I was surrounded by people who've never watched cycling before and were very disappointed by the whole experience.

The test is for the organisers rather than the riders in theory, so no.

It's definitely a test for the riders as well, but as Bomans(Belgian coach) said "I'd take 5 U23 guys if I had to". The participants can easily share their experience with the other cyclists that didn't get to race including the female cyclists.

Do the women get a rehearsal race too, or did they just look at the course, go "yea, Vos'll win" and not bother?

No, the women didn't get to race. Though, tbh, Vos will win, so why bother?

BTW the GB outfit is yuk and although I guess Mark Cavendish is really proud of having won the green jersey, somebody should really tell him that is not a good look.

Shows how much of bad loser he is actually. I remember him asking an interviewer "Who won the green jersey last year?" and the interviewer said "uhm, Petacchi" and Cav responded "See, you had to think a little bit first" as if the green meant nothing to him. I guess every race he doesn't win is shitty .

Lol, to get to that post from the one you quoted really does take an impressive effort to shoehorn an insult in.

Cav being proud of his green jersey while he insulted it many times is just funny and worthy of mentioning :)

Oh, I don't disagree with your point - he's a terrible loser - that's a large part of why he wins so often. I was just amused to get an insight in to how your mind works when it comes to him, as the post you quoted was really very very tangentially linked to the point it inspired you to make.

Because I wouldn't have said it if Cav wasn't proud of his green jersey. Now he's a hypocrite as the photo clearly proves he's proud of it.

He was already a hypocrite. If the green jersey wasn't his aim in 2009 (as he claimed after it became clear he wouldn't win it) and he was really just after stage wins and the Champs Elysées, then why did he get the special green sunglasses, handlebar tape, socks and shoes made up?

If you were out on the course today you would have seen multiple french champion Jennie Longo riding the course. Sad that only a few people recognised her as she rode along.

Cav hasn't insulted the green jersey as he's longed to pocess it since he was young & tried to win it every year , the comment you refer to was to a group of english journalists and he was trying to prove a point that in England most people only know about the yellow jersey and no others, and he succeded with that one question.

When something you have wanted for a long time is removed from your grasp. have you never turned round & said that you didn't really wanted it or weren't bothered about it just to hide your disappointment, especially when it happens in the manner it did on stage 14 2009.

Afraid this will be an utterly boring olympic road race. It's so pointless as well. Keep the sprint events on the track.

Who gives a ****. We fans are generally far bigger hypocrites than any cyclist could ever be, even someone like Cav - changing allegiances on a whim, forgiving one rider for things that we demand someone else's head for, etc.

The marshals were real *****y, random areas were cordoned off for no apparent reason.

But got a spot on 500 metres to go, Cav had a combined leadout from the GB and England teams and they were firmly in control in the final kilometre.

Farrar crashed 2km out, while Boonen came past after the first 2 main groups, rolling in with 3 other Belgians. So something happened to rule him out.

Next year Cav only gets the 1 British team, and with 9 ascents of Box Hill rather than 2, it will be a very hard race to control - should be good!
