At this point there's really no evidence that this was roid rage, and the only person we know to have a responsibility for the shooting is the "so promising man". Even if it is roid rage I have no sympathy for him, he made his choices.

Of course he made his choices.. I have no doubt about this and I will not defend any wrong that have been done. After all I never was his fan. But again if we are talking about a roid rage, it wouldn't be fair to blame only him, because this guy, between others, is the last link of a chain that uses athletes as means for gain money.

NZ news is reporting steroids found in the house.:(

Then it’s official. Pistorius is as disgraced as LA.:D

I don’t see how a steroid defense is possible, given that he has been trying to put out the story that he thought she was an intruder. You might try to argue that steroids contributed to an emotional outburst that led you to kill an innocent person, but how would they make it more likely that you would think someone was an intruder? Trigger-happy? Maybe, but it seems like a stretch.

Based on the information I’ve seen, it sure doesn’t look like an accident, but neither does it look premeditated. A premeditated murder would not be this messy. There wouldn’t be a bloody cricket bat, nor shots through the bathroom door. Maybe his plan was to make it look as though he had mistaken her for an intruder, but if she was there in bed with him earlier, that scenario doesn’t make any sense. The uncle’s statement that when you wake up in the middle of the night and hear someone in the house, you think it’s an intruder, is self-serving nonsense. If you’re alone in the house, sure, but if you have a bed partner who at that moment is not there, of course you think anyone you hear in the house is her. You'd at the very least be grossly negligent in shooting at someone before you confirmed it wasn't her.

Sounds to me like a classic crime of passion (which would make a steroid defense more conceivable, if he were to change his story). That not only is more consistent with the physical evidence, but also with the way he acted later. I don’t think his emotional breakdown at the police station was an act. I think it just dawned on him that he had done something really horrible that he now deeply regretted. He must have had some positive feelings for her, if he didn’t, how had the woman deceived herself for so long? I think the best explanation is that these feelings were overwhelmed in a moment of intense anger. That probably makes it easier for him to say the killing was accidental, because he would really like to believe it was.

Of course not. First time attempted doping. Never positive. Didn't know the effects.

His defence might have trouble with the previous domestic disturbances: "Well you see your honour, usually my client only beat his girlfriends, but the steroids loosened his iron control of himself that usually prevent him from killing the *****es". Not sure that would work to well.

surprise surprise "Pistorius...has built up a powerful team of lawyers, medical specialists and public relations experts for his defense" so no doubt the story will morph into "she hit Oscar with the bat then shot first but was killed by a ricochet"

A little bit like THIS pr spin meistering:

Who would have thought the Blade Gunner, who sought an unfair advantage over able bodied athletes with engineered prosthetics, would look for other unfair advantages?

The story will be devised after learning what evidence the RSA has against him.

That will be a bit problematic. He called people after the beating/shooting.

IT is starting to look like there is only one question left to be answered.
Was he angry because he was taking steroids or was he angry and taking steroids?
To me it really does not matter which it was.

For me is another question. Was any reason for someone like him to be angry..in the first place? Was anything wrong in his life? Except his disability which it seems that successfully manage to overcome he is in his middle twenties already: successful, famous for his achievements, rich, very popular to women, with a model girl-friend. Why someone like him had to be angry?

Jealousy if one believes the latest that is being reported. She received a text message from some famous rugby player who she was friends with and he lost his temper.

Ah well, that's the problem there. Given the tripe served by large proportions of the press who knows what to believe. If the forensics are any good then the picture will be a lot more clear. Time will tell.

I am sure Amsterhammer will be along shortly to discuss banning cricket bats.

Last time I checked cricket bats are generally used for cricket and batting away a cricket ball, whereas the use of guns is generally to kill or wound people and I can't think of a single other thing they can be used for. It might be a nuance that is lost on most card carrying NRA-members but to the people with half a working brain the difference is glaring.

He might end up using the roid rage defense (not sure what use that would be), but from what I've read about him it certainly sounds like he's just the kind of jerk that would do this, roids or no roids. Unless he's constantly in a state of roid rage, even in competition.

There's plenty of people who don't do drugs but who are violent, abusive thugs, especially towards women.

With steroid use, lots of alcohol and some jealousy, gun in hand? Potent mixture! I've said it before, but of course it doesn't have to be relevant to this case: If you've got a hammer in your hand I find that a lot of things start to look like a nail.

There was an American journalist on BBC Radio 4 last Friday,he'd conducted some interviews with Pistorius. The latter made a point of picking him up form his hotel and driving him back to his house. The jounalist said that Pistorius would be driving at up to 140 mph on the public highway! Sounds like Pistorius had a lot of male agression that needed an outlet, I'm guessing seroids wouldn't have helped.

Just read an interesting tweet from a guy I know who's track through and through, stating his disappointment, but complete lack of shock in the steroid stories. Didn't go into 'huge' detail, but rather than this 'roid rage' nonsense, he simply discussed 200m splits from Daegu.

I'm waiting for a bit more than rumours before i finally decide, but if you know this guy and his cast iron bona fides, this ain't good...
